Work Text:
A message from Lin pops up in my screen at 6:25am. I know he’s a morning person, but this hour was early even for him. The sleepiness that I was feeling didn’t make me open the notification, falling asleep again, but after ten minutes he called.
“Honey?”. The second I heard his voice I knew something was wrong.
“What’s happening?” I said already taking the blanket over my warm body and starting to get up.
“Calm down, you anxious lady… I’m just… Not feeling so good.” Lin says almost with a whining voice. “As you live closely, could you come here? I’m feeling too weak.”
“Of course, love, see you in a few.”
While the hot water rolls over my body I just keep thinking about the man I was going to take care of in some minutes. We started our friendship a couple of years ago and I always had feelings for him, but he was married so I couldn’t try anything… I also had a relationship in the meantime, but I had to be fair about it and put an end to that. I was kissing the person and thinking about… Lin. How his kiss would be better, how his big hands would be perfect around my body and how I wanted to have him badly. I was right. He was better in everything.
I remember the moment Lin said he would love to go out with me anytime and I started to think who I was going to call to go with us because we were always with our group, but he stopped me.
“I said I want to go out with you. On a date. Just… us.”
“…Oh.” I replied speechless. So, he knew.
“Would you like to do it? It’s okay to say no…” He said raising an eyebrow as he started to feel insecure. Insecure about… me?
“I know I would love it, Lin-Manuel.”
So, he smiled and took my hand to place a kiss there. We promised everything was going to be slow and so we were doing it. I sighed remembering of his smooth mouth and turn off the shower. Time to get ready and go.
I put my gray sweater with jeans and black sneakers because it was the first thing I saw in my closet and after walking 10 minutes in the quiet street, I arrive at his house. When I ring the bell, it takes him just seconds to open the door. The messy hair and the shirt saying “Nueva York” was a combo I enjoyed.
“Hola, preciosa.” He says relieved to see me and trying to play nice, but I could see by his eyes that he wasn’t okay. His cheeks were pink, and I immediately touch his face, feeling the hot skin.
“Lin, you’re burning with fever…”
He pushes me inside and closes the door, wrapping me in a hug.
“I woke up like this today, no idea why. Never know how to take care of myself alone…” Lin says, burying his face in my neck. “By the way, you smell so good.”
“Baby, I’m so sorry… come, I’ll check your temperature.”
Taking his warm hand and heading to the bed in the main room of the house, I thought of how many times I already went there to know exactly where everything was. I find the medicines and the thermometer in just a matter of minutes, while he was covering himself with the soft blankets.
“You shouldn’t be all covered up, sir, the fever needs to come out!” I warn him from the other side of the room.
“But I’m feeling cold… which is weird because I know I’m hot.” He says with a tired voice. “Also, I have a horrible headache.”
“I think your body is warning you that you’re exhausted… but you won’t listen to me anyway.”
“Perhaps.”
My heart gets tight hearing him like that, he’s always so happy and vivid. While I take his temperature, he checks on me with those beautiful brown eyes.
“What?” I ask with a shy smile.
“Nothing… just you taking care of me like that. It’s flattering.”
“Hmm, should I be a nurse or something like that?”
“Only mine, yes.” Lin-Manuel says, caressing one of my hands while I try to read the numbers in the thermometer realizing that I rushed so worried to his house that I forgot my glasses.
“39°C??? Take this medicine now, love.” I give the pill to him with a full glass of water, and he just takes a sip, ignoring the rest of the liquid.
“You should eat something…”
“No, please, I just wanna nap.” he says, taking a deep breath and patting his side of the bed. “Stay here?”
“Claro, cariño.” I smile at him, laying by his side and hugging the human I love so dearly. Lin starts to cuddle me, turning into a nap of a few hours.
I wake up and check if his neck is still warm, and it looks like the fever was slowly going away, thank God. He doesn’t feel my touch and keeps sleeping a bit longer, while my gaze is still on his peaceful dreamland expression. “He’s the owner of such a sweet beauty”, I thought. I don’t think it’s normal how much I love every detail of his face.
I had probably dozed off again, because I wake up with Lin squeezing me a bit.
“Huh?”
“Sorry… I was dreaming.” He says half awake.
“Something bad?” I ask looking at his eyes and realizing that they were already on me.
“I dreamt that you were moving here to live with me.”
“People say that we dream our deepest desires, y’know…” I say in a playful way.
Lin gets close and gives me a kiss on my forehead, caressing my neck while doing it. The way he treats me, like I was something so precious that he was scared to lose.
“Would you accept the invitation? I mean… you live ten minutes from here… wouldn’t be a big change.”
“Love…” I interrupt him. “Weren’t we doing this slowly? Are you delirious from the fever?”
“I think that after a year knowing you even more, I know exactly what I want.” He says seriously but drawing patterns in my arm with his finger.
I take him by his warm neck and plant a kiss on the softest lips I’ve ever reached in my life. When he takes the blankets off our bodies and stands on top of me, I felt he wanted something more.
“Baby, you’re sick, you should rest.”
“Sick, not dead.” He says, kissing my neck. “Oh, was the kiss a ‘yes’?”
“Maybe…” I tease him.
“Hmm… I’ll give you a reason to accept now.” Lin smirks and takes his shirt off, gluing our bodies together starting to love me in the big soft bed.
