Date Night

Summary:

“Anakin” he sighed, counting down the minutes when he could enjoy a nice, peaceful, dinner with his wife in his head. “Of course we trust you. No one knows your siblings better than you. But Satine and I are concerned that if there’s an emergency you wouldn’t be able to drive anywhere”

“I could too! If there was an emergency that we needed to go anywhere I could always hotwire the cruiser!”

That earned the young boy a hard look. He at least had the decency to look embarrassed.

“Anakin. The sitter is staying. End of discussion.”

OR

Obi-Wan Kenobi, father of three, attempting to leave his home so that he can go on a date.

Notes:

Hey guys! This is my first time writing fanfic in a VERY VERY long time, it was a fun little drabble that I couldn't quite get out of my head so I needed to put it on paper and share it!

For some context: Obi Wan works at Republic City Police Department as a detective. Satine is a lawyer, i'm thinking DA. Somewhere where she and Obi-Wan can work together pretty closely. Anakin is 15, Ashoka is 8, and Korkie is 1. Anakin was adopted by Qui Gon, but there was a terrible accident and Obi Wan ended up adopting Anakin afterwards. Same with Ashoka. Padme is 17 and does an afterschool internship with Satine's law office where she works very closely to Satine, she also happens to go to the same high school as Anakin where he crushes hard on the older girl.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“This is so stu-“

“Oooo Anis gonna say a bad word!” Ashoka giggled.

“This is so illogical! I’m 15! I’m an adult! We don’t need some old stinky krone to be a babysitter! And I don’t need to be baby sat !"

Obi Wan sighed and rubbed his temples. He knew getting Anakin to comply with this idea was going to be an uphill battle.

“Ani, buddy, we’ve gone over this.”

“By ‘gone over’ it seems to me that you have no trust in me. You don’t think I’m responsible enough to take care of my baby siblings, huh?”

Obi wan looked into those defiant eyes. What happened to that sweet boy that Chief Qui Gon adopted all those years ago? What would his former mentor tell him? Sweet little Ani, now growing up to be pain in the ass Anakin who’s sharp as a whip, which doesn’t help his arrogance.

The embarrassed look quickly dissolved into one of resentment. “Whatever. Come on, Ashoka. Let’s watch some TV before we get old lady stink all over us.”

“Or old man stink.” She said wrinkling her nose and following her big brother into the den. Obi Wan let out a sigh until he heard a shrill cry. He raced up the stairs only to see that his wife had beaten him to the crib.

She looked gorgeous, as always. The lighting of the hallway into the dark nursery almost seemed to cast a spotlight on her. Blonde hair falling into neat curls by her shoulders, she wore a navy blue satin dress which stopped below her knees and hugged her figure in a way that almost made him envious, the sleeveless gown made her skin look like she was made from marble, as if someone took their time to handcraft her delicate features. Simple gold accessories adorned her ears and small wrists. She looked heavenly.

“Well don’t you look handsome?” Satine giggled walking towards him and Obi Wan swore he forgot how to breathe. “Doesn’t daddy look so handsome?” She whispered to their 1 year old, Korkie, in her arms.

“Well if daddy looks handsome, mama looks like royalty.” He smiled, taking the toddler into his arms. He caught the faint smell of lilys and realized she’s wearing the perfume he gave her when they were only teenagers. He shifted Korkies weight onto one arm, and with the other he slid it behind Satine's back, pressing her into him. He lowered his head down and kissed her deeply. He could feel her slender fingers carding through his beard as she returned the kiss.

Satine pulled away, a lovely pinkness covering her cheeks. “Careful, if you keep kissing me like that we might never end up going to dinner.” She purred.

Obi chuckled and kissed her forehead, he readjusted the infant in his arms and handed him his favorite stuffed toy. “Oh I’m sure anakin would love that. He hates the idea of us leaving a babysitter for the kids.” A strange look crossed his wife’s face.

“What?” He asked suspiciously, narrowing his eyes.

Satine's eyes went impossibly wide, blinking them in a mock innocence. “Nothing my dear!” She said quickly, plucking Korkie out of his arms and heading towards the stairs. “Come on, Ben. We don’t want to be late for dinner!” She called.

As soon as the two of them set foot on the first floor Anakin accosted them. “Finally, someone with some sense finally shows up!”

Obi Wan sighs defeatedly, silently pleading with his wife to handle their older child.

Satine smiled softly at the both of them, “Sorry to disappoint you, Ani. But it was my idea for the sitter.” She said as she handed the teenager his younger brother. Anakin looked like Satine had stabbed him straight through the heart and twisted the blade, leaving Obi Wan to wonder why the boy studied criminology in his free time rather than acting.

“But Satine! You tell me all the time what a mature young man I’ve become.” He whined

That same peculiar look crossed her face, which made Obi Wan slow his actions just for the time being. “Oh Anakin! You’re so right!”

He is?

“I am?” Anakin asked, brightness returning to his boyish features.

“Yes! You’re still so young, it must’ve just slipped my mind about how much you have grown! Dearest, hand me my bag so I can call the sitter.”

Anakin is practically levitating at this point, grabbing the purse with an unimaginable speed from his adoptive fathers hand. Satines bag was practically in her fingertips when she struck her blow. “Padme will be so relieved that her Saturday night is available.”

Obi wan had to physically cover his mouth to not laugh out loud when he saw Anakin's whole body shut down in a matter of milliseconds.

There was no movement in the house, save for Korkies squirming in Anakin’s arms.

Anakin's brain seemed to have successfully rebooted when he shouted “PADME IS COMING OVER?!”

“Well she was but I remember how you’re so independent and mature that I realized she doesn’t need to be watching you and your siblings.” Satine smiled.

Obi Wan couldn’t help the smile that also spread over his face. His wife is a genius.

“I mean I’m not that responsible! Look! Korkie doesn’t even have his binky! I’ll go find it! Right now! But-but DONT call Padme! She must already be on her way!” Anakin rambled. “Snips! Take Korkie!” He all but threw his brother into his sisters arms as he bolted up the stairs into his room.

As soon as he was out of ear shot both parents bursted into giggles.

Ashoka glared at the both of them from her place on the couch. “That was mean.” Was her curt words before the doorbell rang.

Obi wan turned to open the door, but didn’t have a chance to even place his hand on the door knob before a loud “ILL GET IT!” Rang through the house. Before Obi knew it, Anakin was in front of him with a button down black shirt and slacks with his hair gelled back. A snort escaped his lips but he covered it as a cough as soon as the door was flung open.

“Hey, Padmé. Didn’t expect to see you here.” Anakin attempted in what Obi Wan is assuming is a suave voice. He didn't know if he should laugh, or be mortified from the secondhand embarrassment.

Padme, the sweet girl that she is, laughed politely and let herself into the house. “Hello Ani! Don’t you look dapper! Are you going to dinner as well?”

“Well, um, not really..” Anakin started.

“Hello Padme,” Obi wan interrupted, not being able to stand the awkwardness seeping off of his son. “Our dinner is at 8:00 but we plan to be home by 11:00. I hope that’s not too late for you.”

“Not at all! I’ve brought books and card games and even some video games! We’re set for tonight.”

Satine gave the girl a big hug. “Thank you so much again for doing this for us!”

Obi wan put his coat on and grabbed Satines. “If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to message us. Our phones will be on at all times.”

“Or! You can always ask Anakin too! He’s very knowledgeable and responsible for his age!” Satine smiled as her husband helped her into her coat. The teenager turned the color of beetroot and looked like he would rather the earth swallow him up at that very moment. Padme only smiled at him, which he could only weakly return.

The parents kissed their children goodbye, reminded them to behave for their guest, and walked calmly into the car.

Obi wan looked at his beautiful, thoughtful, intelligent, wife in the passenger seat and they both promptly broke out into a laughing fit.

“How mortifying!” Satine howled, wiping the tears from her eyes.

“Stars above, I certainly hope this isn’t the way you treat your clients at the office!” He said attempting to take deep breaths.

“But it worked, didn’t it?” Satine giggled again and Obi Wan had to nod.

“I almost feel bad for Padme.” Obi Wan chuckled as he adjusted his rearview mirror.

Satine shrugged, but beamed still, “Come on, Obi. Let's just have our nice dinner, and not think about our crazy, loveable, kids.”

He couldn’t agree more as he started the car and the couple left to have a nice dinner date.

BONUS:

Deputy Waxer didn’t know who he pissed off to be put on Lovers Lane patrol, but here he was. He figured he shouldn’t be too upset. It would be an easy Saturday night, just scaring a few dozen hormonal teenagers, maybe making a few calls towards parents. Maybe the worst thing about tonight is having to possibly give a safe sex talk.

He rounded a corner of a heavily forested area, but there was a clearing that had a perfect view of Republic City’s skyline twinkling in the distance. It was very 1950s, and a very popular spot for his patrol tonight. Waxer found yet another car parked there with foggy windows and a tell tale shaking that he knew couldn't be a hydraulics system. He groaned and parked his cruiser, taking his sweet time walking up to the other car. He turned on his flashlight to the highest setting and tapped on the window. “Alright kids, that’s enou-”

The window rolled down and a familiar voice started to say “Officer, I’m so sorry about this-”.

Waxers jaw went slack. Here he was, staring at the very familiar face of Detective Obi Wan Kenobi, his boss. Waxer tried to think the last time he ever saw him being this disheveled. Pink lipstick smeared across his lips and face, sweat beaded his forehead, his cheeks were bright red, his ginger hair usually always combed and styled sticking up in every direction, purple suction marks sticking out against his pale neck and collarbones.

There was an extremely long beat of silence as the two men stared at each other.

“I will pick up all your overtime if you forget what happened here.”

“With all due respect boss, I'm trying to forget what I'm seeing right now.”

“Deputy Waxer, what time is it? I can’t seem to find my phone, or my watch, or my b-.” Ms. Kryze's voice could be heard.

Waxer cleared his throat, “it’s 2330 Ms Satine.”

Satine cursed loudly, “Obi the sitter!”

All the color seemed to leave his boss’s rosy cheeks.

“I’ll get out of your way, have a good rest of your evening you two.” Waxer said, tipping his hat and walking back to his squad car. He watched as the couple zoomed back towards the interstate, but not before Satine emerged from the passenger side window wearing her husband’s dress coat shouting, “we owe you for this! Have a good night!” The deputy only chuckled to himself as he continued on his patrol.
