Work Text:
It’s early in the morning. Such as the sun is not even up yet. Castiel thought about it again and again, wondering if this was a really good idea after all. This was Sam’s idea but the giant was not the one to have to wake up the bear.
“Dean, babe, wake up.”
Nothing. Dean did not flinch a bit. Castiel rolled his eyes and tried again. This time for better luck, he ran his right hand down Dean’s hair, hoping that it would wake him up. Still no.
“You gotta be kidding me, oh my father.” he said, while standing up and heading for the kitchen.
Maybe with some coffee he could wake him up, finally. So he poured some into Dean’s favourite mug.
He smiled looking at it, remembering when Jack brought this from his camp holiday with his sisters last summer. It’s an absolutely normal white mug but as the heat touches the sides, it reveals a big grizzly bear saying “don’t you dare steal my bed”.
It was definitely his favourite mug because it was the first thing Dean thought to take when travelling.
Back in their room, Castiel saw that Dean had finally opened his eyes and was laying on his back, his left arm behind his head and the sheet barely covering his chest.
Maybe they should stay in bed instead of going outside in the cold. Yes, that could be a better idea actually, but no. No. “Ok, Cas, don’t think about his chest, don’t think about what you could do to him or even what he could do to you. Don’t think about his heat and the way his hands feel and the texture of his lips and the way he grabs you when he-”
“Cas, you’re alright?”
Castiel blinked once, twice.
“Yeah sorry, I was daydreaming, actually."
"About me I hope.” Dean smiled.
Cas blushed and shushed his thoughts back in his head before joining Dean in the bed, the mug still in his hand.
“For you” he said while handing the coffee.
“You know, Cas, I still don’t understand why you insisted on waking up this early” he said, siping. “Oh yes, marvellous. Best coffee ever. But again, let me tell you that I really love you for waking up at that time in the night.”
“I know.” Cas said.
Dean protested again quite some times while finishing his coffee, while dressing, while washing his face, while peeing, even, but finally he met Cas at the door.
They rented a little cabin for a couple of days near the pacific oceans. For resourcing purposes they said. And it was true, after everything they went through, it was legitimate. Sam assured he was keeping the bunker under control, guys could have some fun. So they did.
It’s still spring and it’s still cold outside. Who would have thought that Oregon was so cold at this time of the year. Especially on the coast, right?
The night was still enveloping their surroundings when they put feet outside.
If Dean wanted to watch the sun rise, he would just like to be in front of their porch with a coffee mug and that’s all. But Cas insisted on taking a walk because he heard that the sunrise was particularly pretty amazing in this spot. He told Dean that a local recommended him the John Yeon State Natural Site, just a couple of miles down their cabin.
And here they were, with just their flashlight and their big coats, walking through the woods to god knows where. Or to Cas knows where, exactly.
Holding hands, they were talking about what gifts they possibly could buy for the gang: a pink plush shark for Jack, a local recipes book for Sam, and a jar full of sand for Claire. Or a surf necklace, they did not quite decide yet.
Dean said they should have visited Rowena instead because at least, it was hot in hell. That made Castiel laugh.
“Ok it seems that we have reached our goal. Dean, watch out for your steps, it's a cliff.”
“Yeah, can tell.” Dean said, almost falling down. “God dammit, we can’t see shit in here.”
Castiel laughed again and sat down, instructing Dean to do the same.
Dean picked the hand Cas was offering, kissed him on his palm and managed to sit next to him without tripping. Finally comfortable, Dean relaxed his head on Cas’ shoulder and closed his eyes.
“Don’t you dare fall asleep, Dean.”
“M’not.”
“It’s gonna be at any moment now, come on!”
“M’kay.”
But Dean did not raise his head nor open his eyes. Instead, he shifted to have a better access to his boyfriend’s neck.
Castiel laughed, trying to escape Dean’s grip. Not that he wanted to but you know, gotta stay focused. At this moment, Dean kissed his neck, then his jaw.
“Dean, we’re gonna-”
But he never finished his sentence, as Dean shut him with his most tender kiss. He was still mad to be up this early but at least he was here with the love of his life, sitting next to a cliff waiting for the sunrise and with this kiss, wanted to thank him for the moment.
After a couple of seconds of love sharing, they pulled apart, just in time for the first rays of sunshine.
They both turned their gaze toward the ocean, as the sun began to appear, letting a glimpse of light touch the water. The colours were astonishing.
Dean couldn’t believe his eyes, he thought this would be like any other sunrise you see, and he saw a lot, but this was: something else.
No word could pass his throat, no sound. He was just focused on the light chasing away the darkness, the bright shades mixing with the black of the night turning into a mix of light yellow, pink and purple.
He felt Cas’ arm wrapping around his chest. This moment was magical.
The sun was rising pretty fast, but he felt like the time just stopped. It was just him and his boyfriend, sitting together, holding hands, wrapping in one another.
He finally looked down at Cas, meeting his eyes. The morning lights were reflecting into his blue eyes.
“You’re beautiful”, Dean said as he leaned to kiss him. “Thank you.”
Castiel gave him back his kiss.
They stayed in front of the ocean for so long that they did not realise the sun was high in the sky.
The cold was not bothering them anymore, being warmed up by each other.
At last, Cas pulled himself out of Dean’s arms. Realising his boyfriend was pouting, he kissed him on his nose and asked him to face him. Still sitting, but now facing each other, Castiel took both of Dean’s hands and seemed to ponder whether to say something or not.
“Are you ok my love?” Dean asked.
Cas rose his head, his body tightened.
“I was just wondering…” Biting his lower lips, his blue eyes were switching between Dean’s right and left eye, not knowing where to stand. Finally he turned his head back to the ocean. “You are the most amazing human on this planet. You are caring, you are fun, you are lovely, you are beautiful. Really beautiful, I mean, you’re perfect. I love you and…”
“I love you too, man, but you’re scaring me a bit, not gonna lie.”
Castiel smiled and made eye contact again with the beautiful green orbs in front of him.
“Would you like to spend the rest of your life with me and marry me?”
Dean’s jaw dropped. He stopped breathing for a moment. He did not anticipate it. He did not think about it either.
But at this moment, it was like everything made sense.
“I would. Absolutely. Yes.”
He felt Castiel’s relief, as his body kind of melted.
“Of course yes. Cas, I love you. You are perfect, this is perfect.” he said, looking around. “This is the most amazing proposal you could have thought of. Besides the fact you made me wake up at a devilish time but it’s ok. It was worth it.”
He cupped Cas’ face and approached his face to gently kiss him on the lips.
“I love you, Cas”.
And he kissed him, again, and again, and again.
It was a rather cold day, here in Oregon. But in the heart of these two men, the heat of their love was enough.
