Work Text:

Things were always quiet between the both of them, no surprise there. Whether in battle, training, hanging out – anywhere. Anyone and everyone assumed they were just on normal terms seeing as Shoto was one of the very few who never truly deserved the angry blond’s wrath. Not that the other could genuinely go off on him anyways.

It started off smaller than they could’ve expected. A cold, uncaring, loner, and a loud, aggressive, taunter. Who would have ever guessed that in their spare time they spent watching movies in a quiet proximity together, going out to discreet locations, or even staying up late over the phone with a dual haired male who couldn’t sleep and a blond that didn’t have the heart to sleep when he could listen to the other’s voice instead?

Initially, there was a few comments and annoyed glares that neither of them truly meant. Secrets of both pasts spilt, and it felt like a rift, when it was more like a bandage they were too scared to rip off until they felt comfortable. Months seemed to fly by and at that point, sneers and soft jabs were made that managed to pull subtle smiles across one’s features. It was an intimate world for just the two of them to explore and really figure out what one felt for the other. Both of them could remember those times when actions felt a little more than friendly and yet neither of them wanted to deny it. Katsuki was clearly the first one to crack between the two, attempting to distance himself before anything could conspire but feeling so far only had them drifting closer. To no surprise, it was a rather angry confession. The blond found it hard to value himself to someone so great but hearing those words and seeing how the other viewed himself only made todoroki feel aome kind of weird way. It didn't sit right with him, in the way that he didn't like it. It was confusing. That was sort of the time Shoto had realized that some sort of bubbly feeling had made it to the surface of his heart and mind as well—and that was one of his scariest realizations.

Naturally, it created some distance and intense thinking for the pair. No one would assume they even liked each other in such a way but before long, feelings had been reaffirmed and doubts seemed to vanish. Who needed to overthink things when they knew thwy had one another? As Shoto liked to hear Katsuki say if anyone had an opinion, “Screw the bastards.” Vulgar, but it had a good point. (Maybe it was also nice to see how his boyfriend's defined jaw and cheeks puffed in the slightest with distaste towards said 'fuckfaces'.) Now, current day, here they were in the back of the room, sharing quiet whispers as the majority of the class munched on snacks and watched the scenes of the movie playing. Time passes, the clock droning endlessly with its methodical clicks before the dual haired male registers that the blond who was the homeowner of said lap he had taken place on wasn’t, in fact, listening or paying attention at all to the screen, and instead, gazing down at his features. Was there something wrong?

“Everything .. okay?” the words are so gently whispered by Shoto who soon waits patiently for any words to come from the other’s lips.

“Yeah. Why wouldn’t it be?”

“You’re staring.”

“Okay, so what?” the blond retorts much to the other’s surprise, the softest shade of pink tinging his features as he huffed, that answer being nowhere near sufficient for his itching inquiries. How am i supposed to figure out what's bothering you? Luckily, the flusteredness had gone completely unnoticed thanks to the dark atmosphere. It wasn’t fair at all considering he was nowhere as good with words as Katsuki was and that the ash blond was just being genuinely honest.

“Why aren’t you watching the movie?” the dual haired male couldn’t help but ask and Katsuki merely shrugged, not finding it needing a long answer. “Boring. You seemed invested.”

That was true as heterochromatic hues had been glued to the screen watching the scenes unfold, knowing he didn’t have the ability to watch many things as a child or since he was working so diligently to become a hero like everyone else. Katsuki knew this as well. An expression of awe glossed over a set of mismatched hues that the blond liked to admire, seeing the soft expression upon his partner’s features whenever he was admiring anything new or interesting. Cute. That was a more accurate answer of why he hadn’t been paying attention to such a boring scene.

“Oh. Did you wanna go somewhere else?” it occurred to the taller that maybe Bakugou wasn’t comfortable and just wanted to spend time together, not that he would mind doing so. Simply being attractive wasn't any factor ran through his head. Though, the other could only sigh as he was enjoying himself by just looking at said pretty features, pretty eyes, pretty lips— now knowing he’d either have to explain or agree to the offer. Damn it. Another shrug is offered instead of either choice, crimson eyes barely glancing to the one beside him before noticing Shoto had actually left the matter alone for once, letting his eyes linger as they had before. Who needed a movie when you had this in return? It was still rather dark in the room, many people quietly chattering and being wrapped up in the "absolutely ass" scenes, in bakugou’s opinion, said person checking once or twice before very quietly leaning down and letting his lips linger across the dual haired male’s forehead with a kiss of a thousand secrets.

It was before Shoto had properly noticed as well, eyes shooting up to peer at the blond who had left him a sweet forehead kiss in the dark before noticing he was purposefully looking at the screen for the first time in the whole movie. The slightest smile couldn’t be held back at all knowing this was truly what it was like for the pair behind closed doors, finding himself somewhat lucky and blessed that this was how things turned out after long trials of curiosity and self-doubt. No eyes were on either of them at that very moment and it gave the dual quirked male the courage to lean up a little closer near the other’s ear to say what lingered in his chest.

"Thank you.."

Katsuki only tched, face embarrassingly tinging some color as well before turning his head in another direction to utter something out in return.

“Yeah, yeah— no problem … dork.”

Not all love language was like theirs .. but neither of them would have it any another way.
