Being an Elf had brought more benefits than Gem had even thought it ever could.
Disregarding the play-pretend frienemy with the Dwarf in her basement, she still had the blooming romance with the resident knight, daily picknicks in nearby meadows with her girlfriends, and the cottagecore vacation with her fellow elf to look forward to every morning.
Latter one had started as a joke, after Scar had claimed her after her dancing performance at the Lounge, and then thoroughly and possesively claimed her. And then Grian quipped that, by elven law, they were already married, and deserved the elven honeymoon of their dreams.
Not even a full day after exclaiming that her dreams consisted of her deepest fantasies' cottagecore mod, which was unavailable to the public, seeing as it was coded specifically for the coder and her girlfriend, Tango approached her. With a chip.
"You wanted the Fairy's Life? Here it is", and Gem could swear she'd never seen Tango more self-content and smug than in that moment, nor will she ever see that expression again.
"What? But how? But- You...!" her stammering quickly died down as she put the chip into her communicator, yet her lips mouthed her questions for a little longer.
"I may or may not be the modder's uncle"
"Mi-Injô? She's your niece?"
"Yup! Mi-Injô Hahiry Tek, only daughter of my oldest sister!"
"And she just- She gave you this? Like that?"
"It took a bit of convincing, by which I totally don't mean putting myself in her dept, but yeah, basically."
And with a screm of his name, she'd pounced on him, giving him the longest hug he'll ever see, sweetened only by occasional murmurs of her gratitude.
That night, when she fell into bed, her legs kicked the air with the vitality that could have replaced Grian's missing water wheel, and she didn't stop until they hurt.
She had the honeymoon of her dreams to plan!
~~~
The day of their arrival had been a wheelchair day for Scar, which was for the better, because he'd have forgotten it otherwise.
They spawned amid flowering acacias. In the exact opposite of a savanah, with fresh grass, to its crisp surface stuck droplets of morning dew.
Sweet and fragrant, the acacias enthralled them from the first tick, and their first instinct was to lay down and gaze at the sky, gentle rustling of the grass blades surrounding them.
Not giving in to the temptation, just a few steps up ahead, Gem spotted the jackpot, the fruit of the Gods, the Holy Grail of her childhood: cherries.
She instinctivelly ran up to the tree and, on her tippy-toes, reached its lower branches. The little delights tasted better than they had any right to, and she felt her face melt into pure content.
Out of breath, Scar rolled up behind her, "Oh... Oh I thought, thought you'd run from me, and I couldn't catch you again"
"Run from you? On our honeymoon? Scar!" and she unloaded her handful of cherries into his palm, more love poured into that single gesture than words can encompass.
Scar's eyes went wide, and he poked the fruits, stammering "Are these-are they real? Real cherries?", and when she nodded, "I've never had cherries before"
Too enamored with the rarity in the palm of his hand to do anything but let his eyes ping-pong between the fruits and her, Gem picked the juiciest, reddest fruit and popped it into her mouth. Tongue swirling around it, she inches ever closer. Plush lips graze, form the true Elven Kiss, and then the cherry's been passed.
Gem, intoxicated on the thrill of sharing her nostalgia's treasures with her lover, noticed the warning she'd forgotten the same tick the awe in Scar's saucer-sized eyes turned to shock, and the air filled with the crunch of his teeth.
He spit it out as if the little cherry had bit him, which it might as well have, "But-butbut, why would such a little fruit have a pit?"
The sheer pity and betrayal, deep and true in his eyes, punched Gem right in the chest, and she guffawed into a wheezing laughter, her reaction soon to be scolded.
After what felt like too many minutes of clutching her aching stomach, Gem wiped away her tears and called it quits - only to be sent reeling again when she found Scar's face had become one of even more betrayed misery.
Huffing at her ignorance, Scar crossed his arms over his chest, and raised his voice, "I want a divorce!"
"Com'n Sca-haha-r! It was funny!"
"I want a divorce!", he declared again.
"Scar, what the heck? We're on our honeymoon, you can't ask for a divorce already!"
"But you're being mean to me"
"You know I'm just teasing you"
"Well I don't like it!", to emphasize his point, he turned his face away and his nose upwards.
She lowered her voice and chuckled, lowly as she could muster, "I can recall you particularly enjoying it in bed"
His face shifted through all conceivable expressions, confusion, embarrassement, bashfullness, slight amusement, you name it. And only deep breaths and not looking at her steadied him.
His first action following that was to tear down the cherry tree's trunk with his bare hands, leaves, cherries and a couple saplings rained down on them.
"What are you doing?"
"We need to build a house. I'm collecting wood"
"We don't actually need to. Mobs don't spawn on the surface in this mod, so we could just sleep under the stars"
"We...we can?", and his eyes lit up under the given promises.
"Mhm!"
No duties or responsibilities saw them collecting resources, the new-world hustle not burdening them in the slightest as they spent the first days promenading about the forests, meadows and blooming plains, and taking in all the mod had to offer.
On their third night, as they sat and leaned their heads towards each other, sharing a bowl of their first mulberries, Gem sighed.
"You can really tell this mod has been made with love, Mi-Injô's girlfriend is a really lucky girl. We should bring the others here and show them around. They'd love it, I'm sure"
"We could build a cottage, right here. I bet, with you and me working on it, it'll be amayzin'. And we could invite a Hermit at a time. I mean, who wouldn't want to be in wraps with a married couple?"
She giggled, but only because she didn't trust her voice to answer. The idea was very hot.
"You're also a lucky girl, you know?"
"Ohh, am I?"
Scar changed positions, and his breath down her neck almost had her shiver, "Do you want me to show you just how lucky you are?"
Dissipating heat still pickling on her skin, she nodded.
And the stars have never shone brighter as they did that night.
