“So did I.”
“No. No you didn’t. You almost died, and you chose not to. I chose to die and I was brought back. It’s an important distinction, Jon. You still bleed.” And he puts his heart into it, leaning slightly towards the Archivist with one fist balled over his sternum, and it feels important, but Jon doesn’t quite follow and he’s too afraid to ask. Here, between knowledge and death, there is too much that should remain unsaid.
If it's fear that reduces men to beasts, what makes a man?
Jon is the Archivist, and all that entails. He also remembers that, once, he was human.

Summary
Martin, his back to the door, feels more than hears Jon arrive in the room. The hum from his chest is frenetic and furious like a swarm of bees. Martin turns to look at him with a soft purr of hello gorgeous.
“Hmmph,” Jon says, arms crossed tight over his scrawny chest. He looks angry and wound-up and slightly unkempt. Martin loves him, madly.
“Rough day?” look at me, I am warm and very soft, I will make it all better, love, I will make you feel so good.
“Don’t want to talk about it,” Jon snaps. SHARP I am sharp and SPIKY I am a SNAKE I am a PORCUPINE I will BITE you
“Mmm, all right,” Martin says, and pulls the handcuffs from behind his back.
Jon’s knees nearly buckle, right in front of Martin’s eyes. He grabs the edge of the doorframe, holding himself upright with a thrumming moan of please please please yes please I’ll do anything.
In an ~unspecified~ happy-ending-nobody-dies setting, the biggest problem Martin has is taking care of his stressed-out boyfriend. It works out well for everyone.

Summary
Then, one morning, when Martin wakes up feeling, uh, tender, in the chest area, with mysterious dots of wetness on the front of his sleep shirt, right on top of his nipples, he finally relents. He grabs his phone and starts doing some serious googling.
And then he wants to scream, because there is, in fact, a word for what he is currently experiencing. And it’s a word he really dislikes, because it makes him feel like the worst sort of type O stereotype, melodramatic and histrionic and manipulative. And apparently there's nothing to do but wait it out, because, while there are suppressants for heat, and abortions for actual pregnancy, there is no medical treatment for a hysterical pregnancy.
