Summary: It’s time for the yearly moon viewing! Daisuke has more than one lovely sight to see tonight.

Daisuke knew how to cook more than ramen - he just liked ramen the best. Given the time the udon he’d been working on, keeping one ear tilted towards the door. Ken would show up sooner or later, and he wanted this done by then.

He already had the seaweed and raw eggs ready to go on top, and the broth would be ready soon as well. The mooncakes were also ready, along with a collection of his mom’s cakes, the ones that Ken visibly drooled over. Ken was supposed to be bringing along the drinks, and Daisuke looked forward to having a nice long evening cuddling up to his boyfriend as the moon rose.

V-mon peered over at Daisuke’s preparations. “Let me guess, I’m not allowed any of those?” The little Digimon didn’t quite pout, but he could be very good at that if he wanted to.

“Not right now. I made enough for everyone so once we get started, then you can.” Daisuke reminded him. This wasn’t even close to the first time their partners had been there during a moon viewing festival, but V-mon would snatch up any kind of food he could get.

V-mon nodded, though Daisuke could see him looking at the food longingly regardless. He didn’t say anything; he trusted V-mon knew not to touch until the time was right.

The familiar knock came at the door and V-mon hurried over to get it. Daisuke waved as soon as Ken entered, Wormmon right next to him. The two Digimon at once started chatting, V-mon happily describing everything that Daisuke was making, and Wormmon countering with the drinks that Ken had.

Ken himself came over and dropped a quiet kiss on Daisuke’s cheek. Daisuke leaned into it, savoring the feeling of Ken against him before he returned his attention to the food.

“It’s almost done,” he promised. “Then we can head out.”

“I’ve picked a place with a good view,” Ken told him with a slight nod of his head. “And it shouldn’t have too many people there.”

Some people enjoyed lots of company when it came to a traditional moon-viewing ceremony. Daisuke normally was one of them, but now that he and Ken were together, he did what he could to spend special occasions with just Ken. Or technically Ken, Wormmon, and V-mon, and sometimes the others.

He’d heard that a lot of the others were going to be spending tonight together, in various combinations and for a multitude of different reasons. He wasn’t sure who’d be with who, but they would all have fun, he hoped.

Finishing up the udon noodles, he and Ken and their partners headed out of the apartment. Jun and her partner were going somewhere too tonight, probably with Momoe, and his parents had made plans about this festival weeks ago. He’d heard something about recreating one of their first dates, and decided that was all he needed to know. He’d rather go on one of his own first date with Ken anyway.

The place Ken chose was outside of town, on a hill that rested in between two thick spreads of forest. Finding a place like this that wasn’t full of people already had to have been a miracle, and Daisuke didn’t ask how Ken did it. Instead, the two of them settled down and Daisuke began to unpack the food.

First they shared a bowl of udon, and from the sparkle in Ken’s eyes, Daisuke thought he’d pulled it off very well indeed. Ramen would always remain his first love, but this was something for him to think about. Once they’d finished that, they shared some of the mooncakes along with roasted chestnuts. Daisuke drank down some of the soda that Ken had brought along, making sure that V-mon and Wormmon got their own fair share.

Above them the moon slowly rose, silver light pouring down over them. Daisuke stared at it; he’d seen the moon rising so many times over his life but this one seemed a little more special. Maybe because for the first time he and Ken watched it together. Ken’s hand slipped around his, and Daisuke squeezed gently before he picked up one of the chestnuts and tapped them against Ken’s lips.

For a few seconds, Ken had the most adorable look of surprise on his face, and Daisuke savored it, as well as how the moonlight silvered Ken’s hair and brightened his eyes. Then Ken parted his lips and accepted the chestnut, nibbling it carefully. Once he finished, he picked up one as well, and offered it to Daisuke.

Daisuke darted his head forward and crunched, making sure to tease Ken’s fingertips with his tongue, and caught sight of Ken blushing brightly. It wasn’t easy to see given the lighting, but he managed, and he savored the sight.

Ken ducked his head and settled himself more near to Daisuke. Daisuke leaned his head on Ken’s shoulder and together they watched as the moon rose, feeding each other the mooncakes that were left, a few more almonds, and even more delicious kisses.
