Chapter 1: Something Strange

Chapter Text

Yoru feels that his body is a bit strange lately.

He seemed to be getting tired more easily than before, his sleeps were getting deeper and deeper, and as soon as he laid himself down on the pillow, the Riftwalker would immediately fall into a dream and not be able to wake up until Phoenix knocked on the door to wake him up next morning. Yoru thought it was the impact of the rifts on his body, since he's been out on missions a lot these days anyway. As a Duelist, but with both the ability to spy and deal unexpected damage, it's not difficult for other agents to love working with Yoru, despite Riftwalker's unapproachable personality. Perhaps compared to dragging a dead body down to the infirmary, they would rather hear Yoru's sarcastic words when asked to go on a joint mission. Anyway, facing a Sage mama is much scarier, not to mention everyone knows that the Riftwalker heart is much softer than he shows.

“Yoru, the rifts are stable, I think there is another reason.”

Yoru looked up as Sage put the tools back in the cupboard, sighed and shook his head. If it weren't for the rifts, it was probably just that he himself needed a good rest. But a break is for later, duty was always a priority on the Riftwalker's list, so he simply nod as a thank at the dark-haired woman who was looking at him worriedly, then quietly left the medical room.

Sage just watched the back of the Japanese Radiant and left out a sign, secretly hoping that Sova would come back soon after the long quest in IceBox. Only the Russian hunter could dissuade Yoru, but unfortunately he was sent by Brimstone on a long-term scouting mission, at least a month before he could return to Protocol. During that time, Yoru rushed into all the quests he was invited to like a moth. Without Sova's interference, the Riftwalker's schedule was completely chaotic, Viper passed by the kitchen at 2pm and saw Yoru dragging his body from the plane after completing the mission (although she remember that Yoru has already going on a mission this morning), entering the room. And At 5 o'clock while they were drinking tea, Yoru was back, done dressing up, once again boarding the plane with Jett and Killjoy.

“Someone needs to stop him.”

Viper said as she sipped her coffee, eyeing the helicopter in the distance, “He's constantly pushing his limits without Sova. The hunter will be mad when he comes back."

"I've never seen Sova get mad." Fade mumbled over her cup of black tea, leaning comfortably against the soft cotton pillow Sage gave her. The bounty hunter herself had an extremely exciting battle with the Riftwalker yesterday morning, and is relaxing today while Stealth Boy continues to be busy with his long series of quests. “Angry Sova will be interesting.”

"Agree." Raze sat next to the Turkish girl, shaking her bomb while accepting a cup of tea from Sage, “Sova has always been like a calm big brother to me, seein' him get mad will be…quite new, ya know.”

"No objections! I always wanted to see an angry Sova! Hehe.” Neon chuckled, tilting her head to look at Phoenix, who was always looking at his teacup thoughtfully, "Firebird, you have something to say?"

“Hm?” The firebird finally came to his senses, replying to Sprinter with a minus smile, "Nah. Just thinking about what to eat tonight."

"Yeah! Dinner." Phoenix's words immediately drew everyone's attention, and they began to discuss what Sage was going to cook tonight. Normally there would be a few days where Yoru or Cypher would be in charge of the kitchen, as both are surprisingly good at cooking, but lately Yoru has been caught up in his frenzied quests, and Cypher is always hanging out at the door of Omen's room. No one knows what they do in there, but certainly they won't go to the kitchen. Only Sage remained in charge of making dinner, and it seems that since the agents were injured much less often than before, the Chinese woman was more than happy to help with this.

“I miss Cypher's Tagine and Yoru's Ramen.” Phoenix and Neon looked at each other, almost simultaneously opening their mouths, then burst into laughter. Viper shook her head in disgust, Fade rolled her eyes, just continuing to enjoy her cup of tea, despite the Duelist duo starting to tease each other. Sage put the lid back on her teapot, glanced at the clouds in the sky, got up and prepare to left, “I'll go talk to Brimstone so they can be back soon. It's going to rain."

There's a storm coming.
