Summary
While there is a certain level of spontaneity to this — he doesn’t even have a ring, for Christ’s sake — it doesn’t feel out of the blue. Years ago, before he was ready to ever properly acknowledge it, he had looked at Buck and known that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with him.
There’s no surprise to it. There’s no anxiety or fear. Only joy, jittery expectation.
“Evan,” he looks over at Buck, the dim light of the kitchen warm on his skin. Buck looks up from the snack he’s making Eddie, a small comfort after a hard trip to and from El Paso, and makes an open, inquisitive sound. “I have something to ask you.”
