Work Text:
Baji's boring Friday was interrupted when a squeal rang out in the hallway.
Up until then, he was having a great afternoon. Probably. Technically he wasn't supposed to be beating people up but there was too many math quizzes in that week and the guys were harassing students so who's to say that he was really wrong?
Okay fine that was a lie. The guys had just been goading Baji all day after hearing rumors that he was some kind of hot shot gangster. At some point he realized that his annoyance meter was hitting the roof from all the sudden increase of school work and violence had always worked the fastest for him to cool off some steam. Now, Baji knows what people were thinking, Wow, that was really irresponsible of you, blah, blah, blah, but technically students were getting bullied by those guys from the nearby school. Baji beat them up until they promise they won't even step into the neighborhood and students from his school will finally stop getting terrorized. Two birds with one stone right?
Plus Baji was in a gang that fights people on a daily basis with a pretty high chance of getting killed by a mistake, he figured that the possibility of getting detention for it wasn’t exactly the most dangerous thing he’s done.
On top of having gotten rid of a problem from the school's back, some student decided to snitch on him to the teacher and he actually did get detention for the first time for that.
Baji was called by teacher to go outside and when he did, they immediately told him that someone had reported seeing him fight delinquents when he was supposed to be studying. And there the snitch was, behind the teacher like that was going to protect him.
I have your face remembered, dumbass, Baji grumbled. I'll kill your ass next time.
But he was back to his "school mode", hair slicked back into a neat ponytail and looking awkwardly innocent or maybe even proised behind his thick glasses. Looks could be pretty deceiving so he got off with an hour of doing homework alone. At least he got away from history class, which had the worst boring teacher, if anyone could call that douchebag that.
Internally Baji pumped a fist at the little victory.
"Huh?"
He blinked, glancing towards the window for a second.
Nah, it can't be.
"What are you doing?" the teacher asked suspiciously.
Baji looked back at his homework which was starting to become a blur of line and words doing cartwheels. "No, I just thought I heard something."
He suddenly remembered something from the other week, which was promising Kazutora to hang out together after school the next Friday. Baji wondered if he could get out in time since he was still under detention. The answer later on, he found out, was yes, he managed to get away with a little less than half of getting his homework answers right.
Fortunately the time was only five minutes after the dismissal of classes. As he walked out a lot of students were still crowded in the hallways. And just as Baji was about to go to his locker, that was when someone jn the hall decided to squeal really loudly.
"Oh my god! Is that a bike?"
"Who's that guy though? He's not from out school isn't it he? He's got a different uniform..."
"Who cares, he's got a handsome face."
That made Baji's heart skip a beat. Shaking his head, he quickly shoved the books form his bag into the locker and loosened the red and yellow tie around his neck. Students were starting to crowd the windows so he had no choice but to actually go down and see who was the mystery boy.
He tried his best to appear calm even though his heart was so loud he was sure people could hear it just as he did in his ears.
More students stood by the gates in fascination but made no move to approach the person on a bike. Baji did, briskly walking past all of them until he reached in front of the gate.
"Yo, Baji," Kazutora greeted casually when he saw him.
Kazutora was the type to look good in anything but this was one of the first times Baji actually saw him in his uniform, the white jacket over it slipping off his shoulders. His bell earring made a chime as he titled his head, lips smiling in slight amusement.
Baji stopped less than a meter away from him, looked at the other for a good second, before pointing at the bike Kazutora was using.
"Did you really just... steal my bike?" he asked almost incredulously.
He wasn't surprised since the sound he heard in the empty classroom earlier sounded too familiar.
"Oh yeah definitely," Kazutora laughed.
"How the hell did you get the key?"
"Shouldn't have left it at my place, idiot."
Baji cursed under his breath. "Fuck no wonder I couldn't find it."
"Yup, that's why I'm here to return it." Even though the boy probably lied about the key being left instead of just stolen, Baji still felt his stomach flutter at the idea of the whole school watching them now.
Kazutora patted the space behind him. "Hop on. I was surprised to hear that you got detention just now. You were supposed to get it so many times, not just once."
"The hell is that supposed to mean?" Baji demanded. He walked towards the bike — his bike.
"Hm~ it's nothing at all♡" Kazutora hummed. Baji figured something nice must have happened because Kazutora doesn't usually hum unless he was in a good mood. He let himself be tugged towards Kazutora and was offered a yellow helmet.
"Wear it yourself, there'sonly one," he snorted, pushing it back. He could feel the students watching them more closely now, wondering how was Baji able to befriend such a charming delinquent and if he could have really such a good friend when he was an utter dork and menace at school.
"Come on now, you're the passenger, you need to be treated with care," Kazutora grinned michieviously. "Plus I'm using your bike, just think of it as a favor returned."
Baji thought about it for a while. He sighed before taking off his hair tie.
"Jeez," he said as he took the helmet, "I can never go agasint you."
Kazutora smiled in return.
It felt weird to go on the back seat since Baji had always been the driver. His feet felt shaky as he stepped on the pedal and hoisted himself up before plopping back down. The engine beside his tendon still felt hot so he slightly stuck out his legs to avoid touching it. There was a loud click when he clipped the helmet buckle under his neck.
Kazutora kicked back the Suzuki bike's stand and started the engine with a loud roar. "All good?" he asked before going off.
If it wasn't for the fact that Baji had installed the back seat supporter he would've fall off. "Damn you, Kazutora! You could have at least given me a warning!" he yelled over the wind.
"It's your fault you didn't hold on!" Kazutora yelled back cheerily.
"You-"
Whatever Baji wanted to say died in his throat when Kazutora suddenly swerved the bike in a zig zag dangerously. For an eternal second, Baji thought they'd plunged off the edge of the world. His heart and stomach dropped at the sensation. The grey road and white lines flashed below them, along with the blue of the sky and the green of the trees.
Then reflex took over Baji’s body and he grabbed Kazutora’s waist to steady himself and preferably not get launched across the road. That must have been what Kazutora wanted him to do because he started to laugh loudly.
If Baji's face wasn't already pink from the repressed excitement of seeing Kazutora after the shitty detention his face was definitely red now hearing Kazutora laughed at him; probably trying his best not to tease him.
"Idiot! What if we crashed!?" Baji demanded, feeling his ears grow hotter.
"It's fine, it's fine! We won't!" Kazutora said with so much confidence that if could probably rival Mikey’s ego. "Not with you on board anyways!"
Baji felt a squeeze in his heart. He tigethened his hold around Kazutora’s waist. "What are you talking about? You still need to come back home safe even without me on board."
"Aww are you about me~? I'm touched!"
"Of course I am! I wouldn’t want my own friend to die riding their rocket!"
Kazutora was silent for a moment and Baji wondered if he said something wrong. He didn't know how he knew that Kazutora was feeling different but he just did. Almost just as quickly the other chuckled before looking back to Baji.
Yellow eyes that was like molten gold seemed to glow even more and suddenly Baji felt like he was being seen through.
"Come on let's go shopping. You look terrible in the glasses," Kazutora cackled, and the magical moment broke at his comment.
Baji grinned, baring his fangs. "Shut it you always complain about them. Why don't you pay for it then?"
"Why do you think I'm offering you the idea?" Kazutora snorted. "I'll pay, don't worry."
"That was a joke you know."
"I wasn't joking."
