   Witcher signs:
   Despite records of villages¹ that were shunned by witchers during their prominence for enacting violence against them or for cheating them of pay, it is unknown whether or not witchers truly used carved or painted signs outside of areas in order to communicate information about the location. Some scholars insist that witchers communicated purely by word of mouth, pointing to a lack of written evidence about their lifestyles, but others argue that the depredations made during the massacres of the major schools mean that much of the archaeological evidence has been tainted or destroyed...
