Work Text:

It was his day off today. His first in a long time, at least that’s how it felt like to Derek. That’s why he had planned exactly what he wanted to do today. Work had settled down, the town was calm, Stiles wasn’t stressing out about a project and the betas were doing fine as well – as far as Derek was concerned, there was no reason why his perfect and pre-organized day shouldn’t be able to go according to plan.

1. Stiles
Granted, Derek wasn’t that upset with this distraction. Who wouldn’t be swayed by their boyfriend’s charm and morning cuteness? Staying a bit longer in bed to cuddle and make out did sound like (and ended up being) a great way to start the day. Even if it slightly delayed his schedule, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed. So Derek happily gave in to Stiles’ distracting hands and lips and let his soft but heated words lull him into a very non-PG morning in bed.

Luckily, because Stiles was quite the observant person, the human had noticed that Derek had a busy day or at least a time schedule today. So, to make up for making him run late a bit, Stiles prepared him a lovely and delicious breakfast while the wolf was in the shower.

So far, Derek’s day off was looking to be a success.

2. The Sheriff/Stiles’ dad
While Derek was on the way back from the store where he had picked up his supplies, he got a call from the sheriff. Apparently, he was needed for some help and couldn’t reach Stiles. Not wanting to miss out on this opportunity to bond with John and earn some brownie points, Derek took a sharp U-turn and headed towards the old Stilinski residence.

As it turned out, the Sheriff had made a bet with Stiles about the yard work: if his dad ended up not forgetting to do it, then Stiles would let him have unhealthy (also known as sugar and meat) for an entire week. If he did end up forgetting, then Stiles would get to join in on investigations/cases for an entire month.

The Sheriff was adamant that he was not going to lose, and Stiles never specified that he couldn’t get Derek to help him.

In the end, Derek decided that helping out John (and getting even further on his good side) would be more important than getting home in time to prepare what he had planned for today. Granted, then he would most likely not have the house for himself but Stiles could surely entertain himself for a bit while Derek got it done.

So Derek and Stiles’ dad went to work and cleaned up the fallen leaves, cut the grass, trimmed the bushes and trees and watered the planted greenery. Everything looked perfect. Both men were also sweating very much and headed inside to drink something cold while standing under the AC. John thanked Derek for spontaneously coming over, especially on his day off and promised him that if he ever needed something to just call.

Derek was very pleased with how the afternoon had turned out and for getting along so well with John. Though, finally he could return home and prepare the things he had bought on his dining table. Yes, the day was still looking to be a success.

3. The betas
The alpha had just finished unpacking and spreading everything out when his front door banged open and his betas stormed in, making their way to the living room area. A lot of shouting was happening but from what Derek was able to understand, it seemed that Isaac and Jackson had been rooting around in Erica’s closet for some clothes to go out on the town later that evening. And Erica was not happy that they had decided to wear her clothes without telling her.

“I don’t care if you want to borrow my clothes for a few hours or an evening! You’re not getting them! And you know why?” she asked the two boys, an eyebrow raised, challenging them to answer her.

“Uhm, not really”, Isaac answered, nervously.

“Because you with your big shoulders and arms keep stretching my clothes! That’s why.” She explained while showing them how the top she was wearing at the moment was a bit stretched out, pulling it slightly away from her body.

“Then just buy new ones.” Jackson decided to retort, resulting in Boyd pinching his nose in anticipation of Erica losing her cool.

“Why don’t you just buy yourself new clothes instead of stealing mine, huh?!” She shouted while walking towards the two betas in question, though mainly having her eyes set on Jackson.

He didn’t back down. Instead, he decided to rudely make fun of her, repeating what she had said in a distorted high voice together with the talking hands motion.

“Oh, you want to fight? Go ahead, let’s fight!” Erica dared him.

Sighing, Derek abandoned his project and headed over to the betas to go between Erica and Jackson and push them apart. “Couldn’t you have your stupid and pointless fight elsewhere? Or why don’t you go shopping together, you can show Jackson and Isaac where you find your clothes so that they can buy some and stop wearing yours?”

“I guess we can do that, but could you at least punish them a little for ruining the clothes in my closet?” Erica’s anger deflated, aiming her pleading eyes at her alpha.

Laughing, Derek told her that all three of them would be facing rougher training this week, ignoring their complaints.

Turning towards his second, Derek gave him a look communicating that he wanted him to take the three rowdy wolves elsewhere. Boyd nodded and pushed the others towards the entrance door. “See you on Saturday.”

---------------------------
And so Derek was finally alone, certain that no one else would end up bothering him. He was ready to just sit down, relax and do the one thing he had wanted to do all day.

However, when he took a look at his nails, he noticed that one of his anils had chipped and broken off, leaving the nail very short and shorter than the other ones.

Great, now his day was officially ruined.

And to make matters worse, now Stiles had arrived, meaning he was not going to be alone either.

+1. Stiles
When Stiles got home, he was surprised by how quiet yet moody the energy in the room was.

Walking around, he found Derek curled up on the couch looking very grumpy and unhappy.

“What’s up, Sourwolf? How was your day off?”

“Horrible, every kept distracting and bothering me and now one of my nails broke off and is super short. So, there’s no point in doing a manicure today if my nails are going to be uneven lengths.” Looking very miserable, the wolf pulled the fluffy blanket tight around himself.

“Oh, babe. That sucks.” Stiles said. “But weren’t you going to file your nails short anyway? This is like nature’s way of helping you out, so that you have less work to do.” Stiles tried to look on the bright side but going by the glare his boyfriend was giving him, he did not say the right thing.

“It’s not the same.” Derek growled and pouted.

Thinking about how he could help Derek salvage this day off, Stiles decided to offer to do the manicure for him. Suggesting Derek stay lying down and let Stiles take care of him and his nails.

While Derek appreciated the offer, he declined. He had a specific routine when it came to cleaning, cutting and painting his nails and was very certain Stiles would not have the attention span to go through it all. But since Stiles was offering to help Derek, he suggested a massage instead. Stiles could loosen the tight muscles and hopefully get Derek to become a puddle of comfortable and calm.

Stiles jumped at the suggestion and opportunity. While Derek made his way to the bedroom to undress and lay on the bed, Stiles rushed to the bathroom to look where they had stashed the massage oil last. With a triumphant cry, he rushed back to the bedroom, just barely avoiding face-planting when he saw his boyfriend splayed out on the bed. “Holy shit, Der. You look…” Shaking his head, Stiles tried to focus on the task at hand and not get distracted, when Derek very clearly was in the mood for some tactile lovin’, not the sexual one…. Though, who knew. Maybe he’d change his mind later on.

---------------------------
While Derek’s day off may not have gone as he’d hoped and planned, in the end, any day ending with him and Stiles being together and happy was a good day.
