Lie to Me

Summary:

Set after Alex admits they are bad with words and need to use their advantage to save Morgan from their family. Morgan strongly disagrees but they do come to an arrangement, in the end.

Work Text:

Morgan wasn’t dumb. They were a lot of things: almost powerless, weak, prone to getting their ass handed to them in a fight, far too cocky for their own good. But dumb? No. Morgan wasn’t dumb.

The reason they weren’t scared of Alex also wasn’t a death wish. They were just… too weak to be bothered with and frankly Morgan grew up with people more powerful than him always being put on pedestals while they were forgotten somewhere in the noise. They were used to having to be loud to be heard, to talk back when they were put in a box, to punch someone and have it hurt them instead of the person on the receiving end. It still made their point.

So yeah, sometimes they threatened Alex, but it wasn’t because they were dumb or had a death wish, it was just the best way to get the S Tier Villain to listen . Like now. And Alex had done it for ‘good’ reasons but their parents had labeled them a sidekick for ‘good’ reasons too. So they said a hospital bill would be worth getting into a fight with Alex just then.

Alex, predictably, held their hands up in surrender. “Okay, so clearly there was a line.”

“Yeah, and you fucking crossed it.” Morgan pinched the bridge of their nose, reminding themself that this was Alex, the one with very few morals who was completely irredeemable. Sometimes the S Tier Villain forgot how to be human, but they always treated Morgan with their own weird form of respect. It was more than they could say for their family. “I should wreck your dungeon so you can never lock me up for my own good again. You know who else would do that? My parents.”

Alex actually winced at that comparison.

“Yeah, I know. Sucks to suck, doesn’t it?” Morgan dumped their body on the couch and tried to relax into it. That sentence alone seemed to get it through Alex’s head what they had done. “I don’t care if you’re not good with words, talk to me next time and tell me what’s worrying you. And I’ll make my own choice and you’ll respect it.”

“Even if it’ll certainly lead to you being back in your parents’ clutches? Even if your choice is wrong?”

“Even then. But I promise I will never actively make that choice if you tell me. I will, however, cut you out of my life if you keep pulling shit like that . Locking me in a fucking dungeon.”

“I put all your favorite video games in there.”

“That is not the fucking point! ” Morgan groaned. “I was still trapped . I hate feeling trapped and if you ever do it again so help me-”

“Alright, alright, never again. Alternatively, could I lie to you to trick you into staying away from something like that?”

Morgan looked at their partner in crime, a single eyebrow raised. “You have a horrible poker face. Go ahead and lie to me.”
