Work Text:

Robin watches outside her window as a big, white truck trudges its way onto the driveway next to her house. She rolls her eyes as she glances at the clock in her room. It’s almost midnight and someone is moving into her old neighbors house. Crazy.

A knock on her bedroom door whipped her out of her thoughts. It was Steve Harrington.

Robin rolls her eyes, “Who let you in?”

“Your mom.” Steve sighs, flops onto her bed and glances at her. “You know she loves me.” He smirks suggestively.

Robin gags. “You are gross.” Not once do her eyes stray from the window. Steve notices this and perks up, sitting up on her bed.

“What’s happening out there?” He questions as he pushes Robin to scoot over on her bay side window. He sits down and his eyes narrow. “New family moving in?”

Robin shoots him a look. “No, actually,” She replies sarcastically. Steve rolls his eyes. “Why are you here, Stevie? It’s midnight.”

Steve shrugs. “Just missed you, that’s all.” Robin rolls her eyes but doesn’t push, knowing Steve probably has something going on at home.

“You sleeping over?” Steve nods as his eyes train on the truck back sliding open.

A middle aged man, probably in his early forties jumps out of the driver's seat. Steve whistles lowly. “Definitely a family, hopefully they have a hot son.” Robin grins.

“Or daughter.”

“Maybe both if we’re lucky.” Steve and Robin fist bump before turning to the window again.

Finally, the back door opens. Steve and Robin hold their breath in anticipation that someone will be their age. Being rising juniors in high school, they think it’s time to start dating. Or Steve thinks that. Robin is perfectly fine being alone. Kind of.

A little girl, teenage boy, and slightly older teenage girl jump out too. Steve sighs in disappointment but Robin is entranced. The girl that is now sitting on the driveway, rubbing her eyes, must have been the most beautiful girl Robin has ever laid her eyes on.

“Holy shit.” Robin whispers. Steve chuckles. The two are about to close the blinds when the girl turns to them. She waves with a slight smile. Robin just stares and Steve nudges her not-so-lightly before the girl snaps out of it and waves back.

Just as they were about to close the blinds again, another truck rumbles its way down the road and stops just before the driveway. However this time, Robin and Steve know exactly who they are when the family exits the truck.

“What the fuck are the Byers’ doing here?” Robin mutters. Steve doesn’t answer because he’s busy watching Jonathan Byers laugh, throwing his head back.

“I swear Will told us something about him and Jonathan moving in with a new family…” Steve trails off.

Jonathan notices them through the window and Steve’s heart flutters. Jonathan motions for them to come down and Robin glances at Steve. She rolls her eyes at Steve’s blush that’s making its way across Steve’s face and sits up.

“Shall we?” Robin asks. Steve jumps and she rolls her eyes again because jeez, be any more obvious. Robin takes her sweatpants off and rummages in her closet for shorts before stumbling down the stairs to go greet their new neighbors. She tries not to make too much noise, but Steve on the other hand, stomps down the stairs and burps while opening the door.

Robin swears they will fight.

Steve waits for Robin to slowly close the door and they make their way to Jonathan and the other families.

Will notices them and his face stretches into the biggest grin Robin has ever seen.

“Robin!” Will shrieks, running to Robin. Robin envelopes him in the biggest hug, lifting him up a little.

“Hey, Will.” She chuckles. “How are you?” She ruffles his hair.

He groans and fixes it. “I’m as good as I can be. You know, with my mom leaving for California…” He trails off, frowning. Robin brings him in for another hug.

“I’m sure it will be fun. Plus, this house looks amazing .” She glances at the house. It’s fairly bigger than Robin’s, and the roofs are close together which only fuels Robin’s fantasies of jumping from roof to roof. “Look at how close the roofs are together, Will. If you ever need me, throw a rock at my window or something and I’ll meet you here.” She smirks. Will grins and nods before heading off to find Steve, who is checking around the house.

“Hey, Rob.” A soft voice calls. She looks up and sees Jonathan, who is tentatively making his way toward her. Jonathan and Robin have a special history together, not because they dated, but because Jonathan has been there for Robin ever since she met him and vice versa. If Steve didn’t exist, Jonathan would probably be the closest thing Robin could call a brother.

“Jonathan.” Robin whispers. She brings him close, breathing in his disgusting male-like cologne and hugs him as tight as she can. “I missed you.”

“I missed you so much. At least we’re neighbors now?” Jonathan smiles when they break. His eyes widen. “Shit! I forgot to introduce you guys.” Jonathan looks around the driveway then furrows his eyebrows. “Where the hell is Steve?”

“We’re over here!” Steve calls, stumbling out of a fucking bush . There are leaves all over him. Will is close behind. Jonathan just stares, mouth agape as Steve smiles nervously. He walks over to Robin and puts an arm around her shoulder. Jonathan ignores it and turns to the family who had just watched the whole interaction with wide eyes.

Robin takes some leaves off Steve and throws them to the ground as she smiles up at the new family. She makes eye contact with the girl and both of them turn away, blushes coloring their faces.

“Okay, well. This is Steve Harrington, Robin Buckley, and you already know Will.” Jonathan says. Robin and Steve wave. “Steve and Robin are rising juniors, just like you Nancy.” The girl that was staring at Robin perks up.

“At Hawkins High?” She asks. Robin notices how soft her voice is and feels her knees go weak. Good thing Steve still has his arm around her shoulders.

Steve nods with a charming smile. “Yup, me and Robin can help you guys around too-”

“Robin and I.” Robin teases. Nancy smiles. Steve slaps the side of her head with the hand wrapped around her shoulders.

“Anyways, we work over at Family Video, it’s just down the street. So if any of you are into movies-”

The younger boy perks up. “Which movies? I’m Mike, by the way.” He asks.

Robin grins. “All of them. We’re constantly getting new movies and I can always give a discount.” She winks. Steve notices Nancy bite her lip.

“It’s good that we have the month to settle in before school starts in August.” The mom speaks up. “My name is Karen. Karen Wheeler. This is my husband Ted. I really hate to rain on this parade, but we should probably head inside. It’s getting late and I don’t want the cops to be called on us for so much noise. Care to join us?”

Robin and Steve look at each other, shrug, then nod. Nancy picks up the younger sister.

“And last but not least, this is Holly. She’s only three, so no school for her yet.” Nancy chuckles, kissing Holly’s temple. Robin smiles at the interaction between the two and Karen ushers them inside.

The house is empty, except for an array of mattresses.

“We are planning on fully moving in tomorrow morning.” Ted tells them.

“If you ever need help, just let us know. Steve is sleeping over tonight, anyway.” Robin informs them. Nancy looks at Steve and Steve can feel the lasers she’s burning into the side of his head. He ducks his head and drops his arm off Robin’s shoulder.

Robin yawns. “Steve and I should probably get some rest before we come to help tomorrow morning. We’ll bring breakfast, if that’s cool with you guys. Eggos?” She wiggles her eyebrows and Will’s face splits into another grin.

“I love Eggos!” Mike exclaims, nodding eagerly. Karen and Ted chuckle and Nancy just keeps staring. Not that Robin is complaining though.

Nancy stares at the ceiling of her new house. It feels weird, moving in from a populated city to the absolute middle of nowhere. She’s sure she’s the first person awake. The sunlight from the window of their supposed family room bathed the almost empty room in a gold hue. It made Nancy smile. She was always a person who appreciated nature.

Another thing she appreciated was women.

Nancy had always known, to be honest, it wasn’t a surprise. Her parents were accepting when she told them but when they had moved, her father had told her to keep it on the down low because he just didn’t want her getting hurt. She understands, Hawkins is a small town which is filled with small minded people.

She doesn’t realize she dozes off again until Mike is shaking her awake. She groans and pushes him off of her but then Holly comes and pulls on her ear. She sleepily grabs both Mike and Holly and pulls them both in a headlock, Holly’s much lighter than Mike’s, obviously, before both of them start protesting. She’s fully awake by now and presses a kiss onto both of their heads and starts cleaning up their new living room.

“Where are Robin and Steve?” Will asks, rubbing his eyes.

Jonathan groans. “Probably still sleeping. Wanna go on the roof and see?” Will nods. Jonathan motions for Nancy and Mike to follow them. The four of them head upstairs to a bedroom.

“I claim this room.” Nancy says the second they walk in. Jonathan quirks his eyebrows but nods.

“Damn it! I wanted it.” Mike sighs. Nancy just cheekily smiles.

Jonathan opens the window and heads out onto the roof. The roof is flat so it’s easier for the four of them to crouch and walk. There is a small little balcony right under Robin’s bedroom window and Nancy wonders if Robin ever goes there to just watch. Nancy would.

Then Jonathan does something Nancy wasn’t expecting. He jumps. From their roof to Robin’s. Nancy holds her breath and Will gasps. Mike just stares at Jonathan, blinking. Nancy’s next and she jumps. The jump is not big at all and Nancy is sure she could’ve just stepped over.

“Nance, go check if they’re sleeping.” Nancy drops onto Robin’s balcony and knocks on her window.

No answer.

She knocks again.

She hears some shuffling inside the house and something thuds. She winces, knowing it was probably Robin or Steve.

The curtains fly open. Robin is standing there, clearly disheveled. Her cheeks are pink and she’s breathing heavily. Seeing Nancy, Robin’s blush only deepens. Robin lifts her window open and Nancy tries to ignore the way Robin’s biceps flex or her fingers curling around the window.

“Good morning, sleepyhead.” Nancy giggles.

Robin grins and Nancy is sure she looks like a dumb, giggling mess.

“Where’s Steve?” Jonathan asks while trying to hide his blush.

“He’s warming up the Eggos. We’ll be there in like,” She glances at the clock in her room. “5 minutes. Steve also smells really bad and needs to shower.”

“Busy night?” Jonathan smirks. By now, Will and Mike have disappeared somewhere and Nancy is sure they’re already making a mess.

Robin’s eyes widen. “No, no! Oh my god,” She laughs. “No. Oh wow, absolutely not. I’d rather die than date Steve Harrington. We are just friends.”

“Your honesty hurts me, Robin Buckley.” Steve says, appearing from the hallway outside of Robin’s room. He has tons of Eggos stuffed in a plastic bag.

“Go take a shower, dingus. All of your hair products are already in my shower anyways.” She spits back, taking the bag from Steve. “I’m leaving with Nancy and Jonathan and you better not make my room a mess.”

Steve rolls his eyes and waves them off. Robin jumps up onto the balcony. Nancy then realizes how small this balcony really is. Their feet are touching and Nancy can feel Robin’s breath and the heat radiating off of the girl. The two girls blush.

Jonathan whistles. “This is my cue to leave then…” He jumps swiftly across the roof and swings into Nancy’s window.

“Hi.” Nancy whispers.

“Hello.” Robin whispers back.

Nancy’s eyes flick down to Robin’s lips, but before Robin can notice, she takes Robin’s hand and tells her to jump with her. Robin does and then heads to Nancy’s window. With Nancy’s hand wrapped around hers, Nancy stops her.

“Come with me.” They walk across the roof to the back of the house. Nancy sits on the ledge, peering over her backyard. She invites Robin to sit.

“I have a feeling we are going to be good friends so I need to get this off my chest before I ruin anything.” Nancy says. Robin nods slowly, placing her hand on Nancy’s for reassurance. It’s not reassuring at all and it only fuels Nancy’s newfound crush on Robin more. “I like girls. I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone because small city so I completely understand if-”

“Nancy.” Robin laughs. “What are the odds? Me too.” Nancy smiles.

Summer is now ending and Robin has been in her room for the past few days, trying to catch up on summer work.

Summer with Nancy and the others has been wonderful, but Robin is now focusing on getting her school life back in shape. She tries not to think about the endless nights talking to Nancy, the early mornings with Nancy, watching sunsets and sunrises with Nancy, the pool parties with Steve…and Nancy. She especially tries not to think of Nancy in a bikini. Obviously she fails.

Robin groans, stuffing her face in her physics textbook. She hears a tap on her window.

During this summer, she’s been more alert when she hears the slightest tap on her window because she knows it’s Nancy and doesn’t want to keep her waiting. Robin flies out of her chair and grimaces when she hears it hit something. She flings her curtains open -- she only keeps them closed now when she doesn’t want to think about Nancy -- and sees a balled up piece of paper. She looks at Nancy’s window and the girl is sitting there, with a bottle of beer in her hand.

Robin hums. “Drinking already? School hasn’t even started.” She jokes.

“I just started, I’m not drunk.” Nancy rolls her eyes. Robin bends to pick up the balled up paper and unravels it.

The note is simple; Will and Mike have invited her to an end of summer pool party and told her to wear her hottest bikini. She rolls her eyes at the two as she imagines them giggling while drawing a bikini. She glances at Nancy.

“And are you, Ms. Wheeler, wearing a ‘hot bikini’” She air quotes. Nancy shrugs.

“Maybe I will. I can’t wait to see you in yours.” Nancy winks. Robin scrunches her nose at the terrible pick up line.

Without speaking, Robin jumps across the roof and swings into Nancy’s window. The two are even closer, and Nancy sets the beer bottle on her desk behind them as her hands fly to Robin’s hips, where the girl stumbles a bit.

“Careful there.” She husks. Robin blushes muttering a useless apology.

Robin’s eyes flick to Nancy’s lips and Nancy takes it as an invitation. She closes the distance between the two of them.

The funny thing is that this isn’t even their first kiss. That happened earlier, but it was at one of their pool parties so Robin doesn’t count it because they were both drunk.

But Robin is not complaining as she hums into the kiss. Nancy pulls away. “That will never get old.”

Robin smirks and brings her into another kiss, this one rougher than the others. Nancy moans when Robin bites her lower lip and Robin takes it as an invitation to probe her tongue into Nancy’s mouth. Nancy shoves her onto her bed and straddles Robin and Robin’s hands wander to Nancy’s ass. Nancy groans when Robin squeezes a little Nancy starts trailing hot kisses down Robin’s neck. Now it’s Robin’s turn to moan as Nancy slowly pushes her down the bed. The kisses get lower.

And lower.

And lower.

Until, well, they stop.

Robin frowns and Nancy slithers her way back up Robin’s body.

“Shouldn’t you be studying?” Nancy licks her swollen lips.

“Shouldn’t you be kissing me?” Robin counters. Nancy just wipes Robin’s lip gloss off of her lips and smirks.

“Help me choose a bikini then.”

Robin plants another kiss onto Nancy’s mouth and they head over to her closet.

The sun is slowly setting and Robin and Nancy head to Nancy’s backyard to get the pool party started. They set up drinks and food and then sit next to each other, dipping their feet in the pool.

“Are you excited for school?” Robin mumbles, leaning her head on Nancy’s shoulder. Nancy kisses her temple and hums like she’s contemplating.

“I will be if you’re my girlfriend.”

Robin’s eyes widen at the bold claim. “I was going to ask first! Why didn’t you let me?” She pouts and shoves Nancy away from her.

Nancy laughs. She splashes water with her feet in Robin’s direction. “Answer the question, asshole.”

“Of course, Nance.” The two share a kiss but then are pushed into the pool.

“What the fuck, Harrington?” Nancy shrieks. Steve cackles in laughter, Jonathan joining him.

“Fuck you.” Robin laughs, splashing Steve.

“Hey! I still have a shirt on!” Steve complains. “And my hair doesn’t do well in the pool you kno-” He’s interrupted when Will pushes him in the pool.

“He talks too much.” Will shrugs, running off to join Mike.

“No running!” Nancy calls after him.

“Let’s chicken fight!” Robin says, getting on Steve’s shoulders. Jonathan jumps in the pool with them and drops a kiss to Steve’s cheek.

“Nance?” Jonathan offers his shoulders.

The four of them laugh when Robin easily beats Nancy with a smug smirk.

“I will wipe that stupid, dumb smirk off of you.”

Ooh! Nance is threatening to make out with me. How sad.” Robin feigns a frown. Nancy rolls her eyes.

Meet me in the bathroom - Robin

Is what the note says. Nancy looks around with a small smile before running off to the ladies bathroom. She is immediately shoved into the wall and lips that she has memorized interlock with hers. She reciprocates and Robin pulls away.

“Making out with me on the first day? Robin you freak .” Nancy coos.

Robin giggles. “I missed you.”

“How are you not tired of me? After yesterday, the day before, the day before that…” Nancy trails off, flicking lint off of Robin’s jacket.

“I could never get sick of you,” Robin runs her hands down Nancy’s body. “Or your smokin’ hot body.” She grins wolfishly.

Nancy rolls her eyes. “Moment ruined.”

Nancy closes the distance between them again and her hands manage their way through Robin’s jacket and slide into the pockets of Robin’s jeans.

Robin’s hands weave through Nancy’s hair and tug on it slightly, garnering a moan from the latter.

“You’re so pretty.” Nancy whispers into Robin’s ear. Robin’s knees buckle and Nancy takes this moment to spin them around so that Robin is pinned to the wall. “My pretty girl.” She touches their noses together. The bell rings.

“Good luck kiss?” Robin asks.

“Like you need it.” Nancy smiles. She kisses Robin almost bruisingly and bites her neck playfully before the two exit the bathroom.

Nancy watches Robin go with a smile on her face.
