Summary
Steve remembered exactly how terrifying it was. He remembered dealing with all the monsters the first time; the knowledge that the whole world was different than what you thought and you’d never really be safe.
He remembered how badly he’d needed some kind of comfort or companionship, and how fully he had not had it.
He remembered feeling like he was the last to know, feeling stupid and unawares and defenceless.
He was sure he knew exactly how Eddie Munson felt.
Maybe there was a time that Steve wouldn’t have cared. Maybe he was a worse person, a more selfish person, than he had believed himself to be. Time, and a bunch of dorky kids, had changed him.
In short, he was worried about Eddie.
OR
They're waiting for the inevitable other shoe to drop, and Steve decides to have a conversation with Eddie about how he's feeling.
