06:15 | June 25 - Ryan
HACKETT’S QUARRY CAMP LODGE
The sun was barely shining as Ryan stood in front of Chris, the older man gladly welcoming him back to his camp. “Well there’s my favourite counselor, and I see you came along with our new counselor this year? Good to see you again Dylan.” Chris nodded towards the other man, before his eyes found Ryan’s again.
“When you’re both done setting up your spaces, you can go down to the boathouse to get your lessonplans ready. Same with you Dylan, you need to get the radiohut up and working if you’re going to stay there all day, it’s a mess.” With a nod of his head Chris walked away from both of the counselors, moving over to another group of counselors to give them the same talk.
While he spent last year as a counselor here as well, it was Dylan’s first year of being a counselor. Last summer he was overseas with his family, and the year before that he was busy working to save up for a car, and it goes on like that until he’s passed the amount of years they’ve been dating. Ryan had been this camp’s sailing coach for about five years now, and he was excited to finally share the experience with Dylan.
Ryan looked back at Dylan, grabbing the last remaining bag in the trunk before slamming it shut. Turning himself around to face his boyfriend, “Let’s go put our bags down in our cabins, you’re supervising cabin five right? I’m in six.” With a huff Dylan stood up, two bags slung over his shoulders.
“Yeah, I’m in five. Fun fact, that’s the same cabin I was in as a camper you know? I guess they rated me a five out of five stars. It’s the only right explanation.” He rolled his eyes, acknowledging Dylan’s remark with a soft smile of his own. “Just go to the cabin Dylan, i’m right behind you.”
Dylan already started walking before he replied, his head turning around to look Ryan. “To enjoy the view? It’s a nice ass, i know.” He rolled his eyes, before following after him. It was undeniable that his boyfriend was smart, incredibly smart actually, but he still enjoyed joking around and making himself seem much less smart than he actually was.
An act of self defense according to Dylan, a way to fit in with the others at camp who no doubt would be social little butterflies if they were willing to spend their next two months as camp counselors. Dylan had no issue fitting into that stereotype, he simply had to elevate his own lovely personality to the max like one of his old radio’s.
Ryan on the other hand, well, it’s not like he couldn’t rely on Dylan because he most definitely could. But he always had an issue with socialising, always taking people at their word instead of watching their body language or even facial expressions.
“You’re thinking too hard Ryan, we’ve been standing at this cabin door for about five minutes now. Not that I don’t like looking at you of course, but I have to admit these bags are pretty heavy.”
“Oh, i uh, i’m sorry.” Ryan reached out, grabbing at one of the straps on Dylan’s shoulder before pulling the bag away. “I’m pretty sure it was mine anyway, I’ll see you at the lodge in an hour yeah? Chris said the campers would be there by then.” With a quick kiss to his lips, Ryan made his way up the stairs and into cabin six. Giving Dylan one last tender look as the other made his way to the cabin next to him, waving Ryan goodbye.
“Of course, if you get lonely I’ll be at the radio hut, all day, every day, for the next two months or so. Don’t hesitate to grace me with your presence.”
And just like that they started their summer, if only they knew the amount of trouble they would get into later down the road.
