Work Text:
When Venti woke up to a gentle breeze rustling Vanessa’s tree in Windrise, he immediately knew what today was. It was the day ‘Venti’ was born.
In a time of old, before the time of Archons, there once lived a bard who desired to see the world. He befriended a wisp of wind who had been trapped behind a barrier of storm. The wisp was born without a name and the bard, who had been the wisp’s first friend, bestowed him a name.
“From today onwards, I’ll call you ‘Venti’.”
Venti the wisp had never once forgotten the day he was given a name, even when he assumed the throne of the Anemo Archon and became Barbatos, the memory of that day would always remain on his mind.
The years may pass and the season may change, Mondstadt would cease to become what it used to be, and even through the passage of time, Venti never forgot. And every year, when the day came once more, he would offer up the first apple he found and toast a glass of the finest wine to his friend.
This year was no different.
He placed an apple on his Statue of the Seven in Windrise before taking a bite on a different apple in his hand. He took a swig from a bottle of wine he had snatched from Diluc’s tavern, after setting down a glass of the same wine beside the apple.
This year should have been no different and yet, the whims of his heart called out to a different friend: the Traveller.
Venti wondered what the Traveller was up to at this moment. Are they on another grand adventure? Are they hunting for treasure in some ancient ruins? Perhaps they were simply out fulfilling errands for the Adventurer’s Guild. If they were free, then maybe, they might want to come and join him on this beautiful day.
Ah, but no invitation would be complete without a letter to formally invite them.
Venti pushed himself up with the aid of the wind before making his way back into the city of Mondstadt. He left the bottle of wine by Diluc’s tavern, assured that someone would find it and discard it properly. He had buried the core of the apple he ate in the middle of a forest, whispering a blessing to the seeds for a healthy growth.
The first thing he needed was to procure some writing materials and by procure, he meant that he was going to borrow and return them some time before the next century.
He snuck into one of the many open windows in Mondstadt, and by that, he meant he snuck in through the open window to Jean’s office. If he got caught, Venti was sure that the acting grandmaster would forgive him for any transgression he had caused.
He grabbed the first blank paper he saw and took the pen and inkwell on the table before making his grand escape through the same window he snuck in. He then made his way to Starsnatch Cliff where the comforting wind would help him plan the letter he would write.
The breeze combing through your hair today feels a little different, don't you think?
(Somewhere in the city of Mondstadt, Jean screamed when she found her entire office in disarray. Papers scattered on the ground, piles of books dumped on the floor with an entire bookshelf lying on top of them, and the wide open window greeted her tear-stricken face.)
It smells faintly of flowers and also carries a refreshing scent of spring water...
If you are sensitive to smells, I wouldn't be surprised if you can pick a hint of sweetness in today's wind. That's because I just ate an apple, haha!
(Somewhere in Wolvendom, a squirrel sniffed the air and scuttered past a fresh mound of earth.)
Come on now, let's go for a walk outside!
We can pick berries for a picnic and rest at a roadside tavern. With me, the best bard there is by your side, the journey will be great wherever we go.
(Somewhere near Angel’s Share, Diluc walked out of the tavern to take out the trash and found an empty bottle of wine left on the table. He picked it up and sighed, cursing a certain bard for leaving his trash out for someone to deal with.)
Oops, I almost forgot. Here, this Cecilia bouquet is for you. Heh, we both smell like flowers now.
(Somewhere on Starsnatch Cliff, a green-clothed bard tied a ribbon around a bouquet of Cecilias and attached a letter to the precious bundle. He closed his eyes and whispered a blessing of safe travels before letting the wind take his gift to the Traveller.)
