The bustling city of New York never slept and never felt quite peaceful. Yet, at 177A Bleecker Street all was finally quiet. The newest inhabitants of the New York Sanctum were asleep at last.
Stephen and Wanda have had a hectic time of getting the twins to sleep. The two month old babies were insistent on staying awake and if one cried, the cries would trigger the other. This put the extremely exhausted parents in quite a predicament as they did not want to deal with any accidental displays of magic…yet.
Billy was sleeping soundly on Wanda’s shoulder while Tommy was at the brink of falling asleep, slightly drooling onto Stephen’s shoulder. An extra bit of rocking helped and within minutes Tommy was fast asleep.
The parents heaved a relieved sigh and moved to place the boys in their crib. Once placed the twins curled into one another which made Wanda’s heart burst with a sudden rush of love and affection. She blinked back a couple of tears and followed Stephen out of the nursery.
CREAK, went a loose floorboard! The couple held their breaths. The twins stirred but thankfully all was quiet as they went back to sleep. Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, former neurosurgeon, Master of the Mystic Arts and the Master of the New York Sanctum would have been obliterated into nothingness if looks could kill. Stephen mouthed a hasty sorry, blanching at the glare Wanda gave him. They tip-toed out of the nursery and shut the door as quietly as possible.
They had a quick shower ("We look like zombies...at least let's be clean zombies." Wanda wholeheartedly agreed), heated up the leftovers of lunch for dinner and crashed on the couch, exhaustion finally taking over.
"Who knew babies were so exhausting!" Wanda murmured sleepily, cuddling into Stephen's side.
"...said every parent ever" deadpanned Stephen, throwing an arm around her shoulders and drawing her close.
Wanda hummed appreciatively and snuggled in closer to Stephen, on the verge of falling asleep.
All was quiet for a while. The dead tired parents were glad to have this quiet moment after a cacophony of baby wails and cries throughout the past two months.
“I did not ask about this in the afternoon as I thought my eyes were deceived”, inquired Stephen, remembering the distinct red magic of his wife. “Did I see Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch who is one of the most powerful beings in the universe, block pee using magic?” teased Stephen with a big grin, noticing Wanda stiffen.
“Circumstances change Stephen.” Wanda gave him a sleepy grin. “Tommy peed on me while I was changing him. So instinct took over”, shrugged Wanda. “I know for fact that you would not hesitate to do it if you were in my position.”
“No arguments there darling.” Stephen pressed a quick kiss to the side of her head.
“You both really fell asleep on the couch. Must have been really comfortable”, Wong’s amused voice woke Stephen up. He noticed a thing or two. One- His back was aching something fierce, Two- His Cloak was gently slapping his face, Three- Was it morning already?
“Stop it! I am already awake” Stephen moved his face away. The Cloak of Levitation straightened and floated to the side, faced him and looked at him expectantly almost as if to say ‘well aren’t you getting up?’
Stephen straightened up, the pain in his back flaring. Wanda woke up as a result and looked around groggily. Her green eyes widened at seeing Wong and the sunlight streaming into the room.
“Did we sleep an entire night without being woken up?” she asked joyfully, a dazzling smile lighting her face up.
“I believe so, yes” replied Stephen, mirroring Wanda’s grin.
The joyful moment was cut short as the twins began making their presence known. Wanda hurried to get up, almost tripped over her pyjama pants. Muttering a quick thank you to the cloak for catching her and a good morning to Wong she rushed up the stairs towards the nursery, hoping there won’t be any accidental magic that could flare up at any time.
Stephen gingerly stood up, mindful of his aching back when he noticed Wong, uncharastically grinning at him.
“What?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.”
