Welcome To Purgatory

Summary:

“Look who finally decided to show himself.” Steve chided from his spot at the table. Robin said nothing but she threw a wadded-up piece of paper that hit Eddie in the chest. Nacy glanced up for a second before continuing to write in her notebook.

Chapter 1: It Begins

Chapter Text

“Do you think he will show?” you turned to the group gathered in your basement, wringing your hands before you.

“Take a seat and drink some water. He will be here.” Robin guided you to your seat at the head of the table. Steve pushed your cup in front of you from his seat on your left. Nancy opened her notebook and began scribbling inside.

“Relax, we will have fun whether he decides to show or not,” Steve said.

“Yeah,” you sighed. “You’re right.”

Robin returned to her seat beside Steve, across from Nancy. You didn't miss the wink she sent Nancy’s way. The only chair left open was on your right, across from Steve. You breathed a deep breath, holding it for a second before blowing it out. You took out your screen and set it up so no one could see behind it. Then, out came the notebooks, pens, and dice. You organized the stuff before you along with your thoughts for the session.

Then, the doorbell rang. You bolted out of your seat, taking the stairs two at a time. You were at the front door in an instant. You threw it open without another thought.

Eddie stood there in all his jacket-clad, messy hair, glory. A bag hung from his shoulder. Most likely containing his dnd materials. You smiled at him and he mirrored one back.

“I’m not late am I?” he stepped past you and into your house.

“Character sheet.” you held your hand expectantly between the two of you.

He coughed out a laugh before placing a single sheet of paper in your hands.

“You are.” you took his arm pulling him towards the basement.

“What?” he asked, stumbling behind you.

“Late. You are late. You’ll pay for it later though.”

“I am sure I will,” he laughed once more, letting you drag him down the stairs.

“Look who finally decided to show himself.” Steve chided from his spot at the table. Robin said nothing but she threw a wadded-up piece of paper that hit Eddie in the chest. Nacy’s glanced up for a second before continuing to write in her notebook.

“Let’s get this ball rolling shall we.” You pointed at the empty chair between the DM screen and Nancy. “You can sit there.”

Eddie walked to where you pointed out and began setting up his materials. His notebook, a pencil, and his dice. He leaned towards Nancy, “I guess we are table partners, Wheeler.”

She looked up at him, brow raised, “Try not to get us killed. I would like to survive the first session.”

“We will survive the first session. We have to or else it wouldn't be a campaign. It would be a one-shot. ” He looked to Steve and Robin who were looking at him like he was an idiot. “Right?” the word came out a question.

Steve slapped a hand on his face and groaned. Robin shook her head at him. Nancy placed her pen down and turned towards you, ready to begin. Eddie gulped at the energy of the table. Finally, he looked to you.

You no longer sat in your chair. You stood behind your screen. An evil smile painted your face. You were leaning towards them both of your hands planted on the table.

“Welcome to Purgatory.”
