Work Text:

Oh god... He didn't mean to do it… He really didn't! But, it's his fault... His fault... Why wasn't he quicker? Why... Why didn't he do ANYTHING?!

___

It was just a normal day in Class 3-A. The 20 teenagers knew that their days in the greatest Highschool for heroes were numbering.

Izuku and Denki were cuddling at Izuku's desk, waiting for class to start. They've been together for a good year now, and all the jealous students either got over him or have somebody else now.

Denki sat in Izuku's lap who had grown a good foot since the beginning of the year. Whereas Denki, well... He's a short midget. But Izuku loved that about him, he loved everything about him. He combed through his boyfriend’s hair with his hands, loving the fluffiness and the softness as it slipped through his fingers.

"Alright, everyone," Aizawa said, walking up to his podium and turning to his students. "Get back into your OWN seats and pay attention."

After a quick peck on the cheek, Denki ran back to his seat. Just as all the other couples sat down too. "Alright, now that everyone's paying attention we’ll be doing quirk training today. Villains vs Heroes."

Everyone cheered, they all loved this kind of training. After a death glare from their teacher, they quieted down and he continued.

"On the Hero team is, Asui, Kaminari, Kirishima, Kouda, Ojiro, Sero, Shouji, Todoroki, Uraraka, and Yaoyorozu. On the Villain team are, Aoyama, Bakugou, Hagakure, Iida, Jirou, Midoriya, Mina, Satou, Shinsou, and Tokoyami." Denki turned around and gave Kirishima a high five, glad to be on the same team as him. Denki did improve on his quirk, but all the metal in the city takes all the electricity from him.

"Get in your hero costumes and meet me at Ground Beta."

____

Aizawa's students all met up where he said to. They stood in front of the inhabited city waiting for their teacher’s instructions.

"Today we are doing a one-on-one battle. Kinda like the final you did in your first year. Here's the chart of who you are going up against." To the side was said chart with everyone's names on it. "There will be ten different battles, those who are not battling right now will come with me to the security room to watch."

One by one, all the classmates went up to see who they were up against.

1. Todoroki vs Iida

2. Sero vs Bakugou

3. Asui vs Shinsou

4. Shoji vs Tokoyami

5. Kaminari vs Midoriya

6. Koda vs Mina

7. Uraraka vs Hagakure

8. Ojiro vs Satou

9. Kirishima vs Ayoyama

10. Yaoyorozu vs Jiro

They had four of the couples going up against each other, including Izuku and Denki. "Looks like we're going against each other," Denki mumbled, standing in front of his green-haired love.

"Yeah..." Izuku smiled nervously. There was a few seconds of silence spent searching the other’s beautiful eyes. "You wanna cuddle until our match?"

"Yeah."

___

Like Izuku and Denki complied, they spent their time waiting cuddling up to each other with the exchange of small kisses.

The time went by pretty fast in the first three matches. With Todoroki pinning Iida in a wall of Ice, Bakugou just being himself, and Shinsou gaining control of Tsu rather quickly. Shoji's and Tokoyami's match took a while longer, with Shoji making smart moves but getting pinned in the end.

The two love birds sighed, not really ready for their fight. They knew this is just training but they didn't want to hurt each other. But they went to their respective sides of the city, meeting on a street.

"No hard feelings right babe?" Midoriya called out, his quirk activating and his hair flying above him.

"Right!" Kaminari yelled out, determined to try out a new move he's been planning.

Midoriya rushed forward, right arm pulled back. Denki squatted down just as Midoriya punched the air above him. Denki activated his quirk, grabbed Izuku's arm, and threw him over his shoulder, making him land on his back, his eyes shut tight in pain.

Once Izuku opened his eyes again he saw Denki trying to go for the final blow. He rolled to his side and immediately jumped up, putting some space between Denki.

"Give up Hero! You won't stop me!" Midoriya called out, playing his part as a villain.

"Yeah right! You're going to jail!" Denki said, also in character.

The two threw punches, kicks, and their quirks at each other, each one dogging. They've been going on like that for a while until Izuku got an idea.

He again put space between them, and as Denki ran forward he raised his hand. He put his middle finger behind his thumb, all the others high in the air as he increased his percentage. He pushed his middle finger forward until it snapped, a gust of high pressured air barreling towards the blonde.

Denki tried to put his arms up to cover his face but it was too late. The wind hit him and sent him flying towards the building behind him. Izuku laughed, feigning his villain victory until he heard his love scream.

He watched in horror as the building started to crumble, caving in on itself. He tried to move his body, but it didn't work. His eyes were almost minuscule as the whole building fell on the love of his life.

Tears began to form in his eyes as he ran forward. "DENKI!" He cried, the tears falling full force as he got on his knees before the debris, pulling out rock by rock.

Meanwhile, in the watch room, the class collectively gasped. Some had their mouth covered, others stood their mouth agape. Aizawa was in shock, he got enough control of himself to radio in for help and stop the training. He ran down the steps and towards the area where his best student was recklessly throwing debris left and right to try and get to his worst student.

"Midoriya!" He could tell his student was in a panic. So he grabbed his shoulders and turned him around. "MIDORIYA! Listen to me!" Midoriya nodded, his body still shaking. "Go get your classmates, preferably Jirou ok? The other teachers are on the way."

Midoriya nodded, got up, and started to run as fast as he could. How could he let this happen? Why did he play his part so intensely? He should have been more careful!

Izuku reached the watch room just as the other teachers arrived. He grabbed Jirou and Yaoyorozu and led them to Aizawa who was trying to look for the best passage for his student who was pinned.

___

When Denki got hit by the high pressured wind, the air got knocked out of him. It felt like Kirishima knocking him into a wall when they were training, but like, ten times worse.

He felt pain erupt in his back but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He was about to get back up when pain erupted in his arms and eye a second later, pulling him back to the ground. He screamed.

When he had enough control he tried to open his eyes, but only one was functioning correctly. But the sight made him want to close his eyes again. He saw a million pieces of debris falling at him at a terrifying speed. He opened his mouth to scream again, but everything blacked out before he did.

Now, he was floating in a black void, deprived of light. He didn't know where he was, he honestly thought he had died. But loud noises and the pain made him think otherwise.

"... enki..! Ca... ou... ear.. e?"

Wait what? Was he going crazy too?

___

Jirou climbed on top of the rubble pile and stuck her jacks into the debris. She heard soft thumps that were growing slower and quieter. That's him! It's his heartbeat!

She kept poking her ear jacks into the concrete trying to pinpoint where his heartbeat was the strongest. The teachers talked to each other, asking what had happened. After a minute of searching, she found the part where it was the loudest, coincidentally it was where the debris was pulled up the highest.

"Denki? Denki can you hear me?" She asked, praying that he'd at least make a small noise or something of the sort. Her heart ached when she thought that they'd be too late. A groan of pain lifted her spirits and her eyes lit up in hope. "Aizawa! I found him! I found him!!"

The teachers heard her cries and started to get to work, the students helping out too. One by one they pulled the concrete off, hoping they'd find their resident class idiot.

Eventually, with a lot of nail-biting from Izuku, they finally found him. When Izuku heard the news he tried his hardest to go and see him, but Aizawa and his friends, who did see Izuku's boyfriend; stopped him. Izuku didn't like it but he complied.

Aizawa stood in front of the class. He cleared his throat, "Okay, so. After that... traumatizing event. You all get the day off tomorrow, and we'll pick this up as soon as we get back, alright?"

"Hai Sensei"

___

Izuku sat on the bench outside of Recovery Girl's office for who knows how long. The only time he left was when Bakugou forced him to get up and change his clothes. Izuku sat there with his head in his hands, asking himself why he went too extreme. Todoroki, Uraraka, and all of the Bakusquad sat next to him, anxious about what would happen to their Pikachu.

Kirishima and Jirou saw how Denki looked first out of their classmates, to put it bluntly: He was a mess. There were pillars crushing his left arm, there were shards of glass everywhere, most notably in his right eye and his right arm; and a metal rod was stuck in his other eye. It was horrifying, to say the least. The amount of blood almost caused the two to vomit. But one thing was for sure: He might never see again.

The door slid open revealing a very tired-looking Shuzenji. Izuku stood up quickly looking at Recovery Girl for any answers. "Recovery Girl! How is he? I-Is he… Is he okay?!"

"He's stable right now. But you all can see him tomorrow, you dearies need to sleep before I can let you in." Chiyo said, looking at the clock that read 11:49 p.m. "You guys shouldn't be here this late."

"What? No!" Midoriya yelled, looking frantic. "I… I have to see him!"

"Midoriya, it's okay. We can see him tomorrow." Todoroki said as he put a hand on his shoulder, showing concern for his friend.

Midoriya shook him off and tried to run into the office. "N-No! Please you have to let me in! I have to see him!" Tears started to spill from those emerald green eyes.

"Deku. Let's go." Bakugou grumbled, taking one of Izuku's arms and trying to pull him away. He grunted as Midoriya fought back. Kirishima and Todoroki chimed in, grabbing his other arm and wrapping their arms around his chest. The others followed silently as Midoriya kicked, screamed, and cried, calling out for Denki as he was pulled back into the dorms.

Shuzenji sighed, watching the top student throw a temper tantrum. She went back into her office, quickly walking by the bed with the curtain pulled around it. She went to her desk, putting supplies away from Denki's surgery. Only stopping when she looked sorrowfully at the bed where Denki was, knowing his life would be drastically changed forever.

___

The next day Midoriya woke up rather early, finding it hard to sleep without the love of his life sleeping right next to him. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a cup of coffee. He ran a hand down his face as he waited for his coffee to brew. He felt embarrassed as he thought back to last night.

They had to call Midnight just to get him to calm down. He woke up in the middle of the night and sulked remembering what he did, not being able to fall back asleep.

"Midoriya." The tired teen looked up to find his homeroom teacher standing there, arms crossed and looking disappointed as usual. "I heard what happened last night."

Midoriya looked away in shame, his face heating up. "So I decided that you'd want to see Kaminari first." Midoriya perked up at his teacher's words.

"Y-You don't mean..."

"Yes, he's awake." To say that Izuku tried to bolt out the door would be a reasonable accusation. But again, Aizawa stopped him from going to see him without preparing himself. "Hold on problem child. I'm not gonna let you go until we talk about the injuries he has. It's just to prepare yourself."

Midoriya nodded and stood still looking at Aizawa. "Let's walk and talk. Okay?" Midoriya nodded again and they made their way out the door. "So... Where to begin..."

"Kaminari has suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung because of said broken ribs. He had glass stuck in both arms, and after the building fell the glass got stuck and broke the left arm. He is suffering from head trauma and a bruised spine. The head trauma can eventually lead to epilepsy or a concussion. And... His eyes... One of his eyes had glass stuck inside and the other had a metal rod stuck in it, fortunately, they didn't go to the brain or else he'd be in the hospital. But the bad news is, he'll never see again." Aizawa finished just as they walked inside the main building.

Izuku stared in shock. Denki will never see his face again? They spent the rest of the walk in silence, Izuku's head down trying to not show the glistening tears falling down his face. Oh god... He didn't mean to do it… He really didn't! But, it's his fault... His fault... Why wasn't he quicker? Why... Why didn't he do ANYTHING?! If he'd done something maybe he could have taken some of the blasts!

"We're here." Midoriya was broken from his thoughts by Aizawa's grave voice. Aizawa turned to him and gave him a worried expression. "Are you ready to see him?"

data-p-id=5f4acf49fa01c6c8d9ef4c53966b35d3,Midoriya nodded, in fear if he said something he'd might just break. Aizawa opened the door, showing the bleak room with curtains surrounding the beds. Recovery Girl was sitting next to a bed with a kid in it. She was hooking up a new blood bag and a new IV bag.

Midoriya stepped inside and Recovery Girl turned her head to him. "Ah hello dearie! Just let me finish up and you can sit next to him. Okay?" Izuku nodded and stood at the end of the bed, looking down. There lay Denki Kaminari, bandages were basically covering his whole face. The most notable ones were the bandages on his eyes that had blood starting to leak through.

"Izuku? Is that you?" Izuku looked up, finding that Denki's head was now turned slightly to his side, his mouth slightly open.

"Y-Yeah... It's me." Midoriya squeaked, as he was trying his hardest to not cry right then and there.

"Something bothering you babe?" Denki asked. He always would know if someone was in a bad mood. Midoriya didn't know if it was because of the energy they produced or if he can just read their body language.

"Yeah..." Recovery Girl finished and stood up, walking off.

"Well sit down. Dr. Kaminari is in and is ready to be your therapist!" Denki smiled gesturing to the now-empty seat. Wait, what?

"Wait, how'd you know that the seat is empty? Recovery Girl just got out of it! And she didn't say anything!" Midoriya quizzed, utterly bewildered at how he knew.

"Ah, I'll tell you after you tell me your problems! Now come on, sit and let all your worries melt away." Denki smiled wider, moving his right arm around before flinching and setting it down.

"Okay...?" Disbelief in Izuku's voice, but he sat down and watched as Denki turned his head towards him. "So, I just feel guilty for putting you in this situation. If I had j-just been more c-careful y-you.. you wouldn't b-be here!" Izuku started crying halfway through, unable to take the guilt anymore. Recovery Girl came over with a box of tissues and gave them to Midoriya. He thanked her and immediately used two.

"Izuku, it's okay! It's not your fault. It was an accident. You know that others get too into their parts sometimes! Just like Kacchan!" Denki chuckled, trying to grab his boyfriend’s face.

"The thing is, last night I literally threw a fit because I couldn't see you... " Midoriya said, still embarrassed. It was silent for a few seconds until Denki burst out laughing. "Hey! It's not funny!"

"Y-Yes it is!" Denki laughed harder until the pain in his chest was too much to handle. "ow... Laughing is not  a good idea..."

"Babe, I know what you're thinking. 'Denki can never see again! He'll never be able to be a hero!' and to that I say bullshit." Denki said. When Midoriya tried to cut in, Kaminari cut him off. "Because my parents knew that one day, I'll go blind from my quirk. So, they taught me how to fight without my sight. They taught me how to do normal things with only four senses. So, my life won't be drastically changed, it'll just take me a tiny while to get used to being without my sight."

"Denki... I'm so glad to hear that."
