Give Me, Give Me Shelter From The Storm

Summary:

Hero was in a panicked haze as she stumbled through the crumbling city. She'd just accidentally killed her former lover only to leave that god-forsaken ambulance and realize that he probably would've died anyway considering all the men were dropping like flies. No one would even think to label his death a murder, all things considered. So... In the clear on that front.

She wasn't sure whether Sam would be alive or not when she got to his place- It's not like she had much to go off of yet. It was all men who were dying, but what was it based on? Testosterone? Chromosomes? That difference could be what decided whether or not Sam would be dead or alive.

She eventually arrived at his place, not even bothering to knock on the door (which was unlocked, thankfully). "Sam?" she called out through his house. "Are you..." she trailed off once she saw him curled up in the corner of the living room. "Sam, holy shit"

"Hero"

OR

Basically Hero stumbling to find Sam after the *event*

Work Text:

"Hero" he said, broken out of whatever panicked haze he had been in, relieved to see a familiar face (even if she was covered in blood and also visibly panicked). Hero felt her knees buckle as she fell to the floor with him, shaking and crying. "Hey hey hey"

"Everyone is..." she muttered, unable to say it. Sam just nodded, feeling equally panicked himself but doing a better job of hiding it.

"I know" he replied. "I don't know if I..." he swallowed. "I don't know if my time is limited o-or if I'll be fine since I'm not a real-"

"You are a real man"

"Hero, I love you, but now is not the time for..." he trailed off. Hero frowned, wrapping him in a hug. "It's just... So much, and you're-"

"Covered in blood, I know" she cut him off. "It's um... Long story"

"We kind of have all the time in the world now"

"I don't wanna talk about it, okay?"

...

"Okay" Sam agreed. A million things were running through his mind (Am I gonna die? How do I keep up with my testosterone shots with everything in chaos? What happens if I run out? Is everyone gonna die and the cis dudes just got knocked off first? Are my friends okay? Why is Hero covered in blood!?), so he was in no state to try and press her for details, even if he wanted to. "We don't have to talk"

"Can we just... Stay here for a while?" Hero asked. Her nerves were running haywire, as were Sam's. Neither of them were in a state to try and go back out into the world just yet. They needed to collect their thoughts, regain control of their breathing, etc.

"Yeah" Sam replied, voice shaking. "Let's just... Wait for a bit"
