you wanna kiss me soooo bad

Summary:

based on my tumblr scenario (steddie-lover)

Steve and Eddie have a recurring date night- but what's also recurring is their lack of ability not to be smitten idiots in love. Their refusal to focus on the task of cooking a goddamn meal leads to a kitchen make out session.

Notes:

please enjoy! its fairly short but I have other steddie fics in the works, and plenty of other steddie content on my tumblr! (steddie-lover)

Work Text:

It starts as a usual date for the two. Steve has planned to make dinner when Eddie arrives, and then they’ll put a movie in the VCR player and probably end up making out on his couch to finish the evening. He even had a menu ready and planned, Eddie’s favourite meal, and he was so ready to make it. Steve had half of the prep done for the meal, chatting with his boyfriend, when he realised his fatal flaw. Eddie was distracting.

That’s not to say that Steve can’t control himself, he can, it's just that Eddie doesn't make it easy for him. Steve likes to hum and sing when he cooks, and he still can when he’s with Eddie, it’s just that when Eddie wraps his arms around his hips and sways with him when he’s trying to chop vegetables it becomes more complicated. Instead of cooking, Steve ends up setting the knife down and turning to pull his boyfriend into a kiss. This is always when the problems start. If Steve pulls away to go back to cooking, Eddie will draw him back in with a little “just one more, doll” or “give me another kiss for luck, darling?” and Steve melts into a puddle of goo on the kitchen tile.

Alternately, if Eddie pulls away, Steve can’t help but chase his lips back into another kiss. He’ll deny it, but Eddie insists that if he pulls away really suddenly, he’ll be met with confused puppy eyes. (Eddie’s teasing “you wanna kiss me sooo bad, love” always does get him back on track, simply because of his spite and stubborn will.) To put it simply, they’re just a bit lovesick.

Now, maybe 20 minutes into his should-be 10 minutes prep time, Steve thinks he really should stop kissing Eddie and get on with it. He’s half done and working on double time now, but it’s so nice to be held in his boyfriend's arms and just kiss him for a while. Every couple minutes, one of them will lean back and suggest they take a break, and they do, but inevitably they rinse and repeat the same cycle.

When the food prep is done (40 minutes later) and their dinner is finally in the oven, Eddie will help Steve onto the newly cleaned counter and slide between his legs and kiss him again, hands on his hips and Steve’s arms wrapped around his shoulders, one hand tangled in his hair. Lips slotting together in sync, pants let out when they separate a few seconds to breathe, a hint of Eddie’s tongue sliding against Steve’s lips, a thumb pressed against his hip and rubbing little circles just under the scars there.

Steve let out a low noise against Eddie’s lips, head tilting back as they both broke away for air yet again. “You just sit and look pretty, babydoll, and let me make you happy.” Eddie muttered against his neck, peppering gentle kisses along the column of his throat. Steve grinned, his hand that was previously tangled in Eddie’s hair starting to work through the tangles that he’d ended up working into his hair.

“Dinner should be ready in 20 minutes, Eds.” Steve muttered, eyes peering down at his partner and meeting his fond gaze. His heart felt like it grew 3 sizes at the pure, unadulterated joy he could read from Eddie's features. The love Steve got from Eddie was unmatched by anyone else in his life.

“Then I better get my fill of kissing your face before we start to eat, huh pretty boy?” Eddie teased, hand coming up to pull Steve’s face down into another kiss. Eddie’s thumb on his chin brought a flush to his face at the position it put him in, and his metal rings against his warming face gave a chill and he shivered a little before meeting his lips in a kiss again, bringing his hands down to cup against Eddie’s jaw and the back of his neck to keep him close. “God you’re such a sweet kisser, baby” Eddie mumbled against his lips, sliding his tongue across his bottom lip and sliding his hands down to his hips to hold him close.

Steve thought maybe it was ridiculous how easily Eddie could cause him to zone out and get lost in kissing and mindless conversation about the movie they planned to watch. With a guitar-calloused thumb rubbing firmly into the side of his hip and a constant stream of gentle kisses and idle, fond words, the time it was supposed to take for their dinner just flew by, and both of them jumped apart with clacking teeth when the timer for the oven rang behind them. They shared a look and then dissolved into laughter for a moment, before Eddie stepped back to let Steve hop off the counter and get things out of the oven and onto the counter top.

“Shall we eat the food I’ve made then, love?” Steve asked, voice light and teasing. Eddie laughed and kissed his cheek.

“We shall, my liege. But it’s almost a shame to have to stop kissing you, pretty boy, you do look so handsome with hickeys and your messy hair.” Eddie said, quickly running his fingers through Steve’s hair to flatten it again where it had gotten messed up by their mini kitchen make-out session.

“Says you, lover boy. I had to fix your hair while we were still making out.” he laughed out, serving the food onto two plates. “Now, can you go and set up the VCR while I finish our meals?” Eddie hummed in affirmation and headed to the living room to do just that, while Steve got some white wine from the fridge and poured two glasses, struggling to carry through everything for their meals but succeeding nonetheless.

“You brought wine! A man after my own heart.” Eddie beamed at him and took his plate and glass from his hands, pecking his lips in thanks. “This looks delicious, darling, thank you so much.”

Steve snorted at him, and muttered “So do you, Eds” under his breath, drawing a broad grin from his boyfriend as they both settled down. “Ah, you decided on a horror film. Are you trying to get me into your arms?”

“Of course I am, Hon, what do you take me for? A man who is unwilling to hold his pretty, badass boyfriend and protect him from the pretend horrors in the silly horror films? Surely not! Say it isn’t true, Steve!” He burst out, before breaking into a frankly ridiculous amount of laughter while his boyfriend laughed fondly at him.

As the movie played, both men ate their meals and set their plates and wine glasses aside, feeling pleasantly full and a light, vaguely alcoholic buzz from the bottle of wine they’d worked through and finished while eating their dinner. Throughout the movie, Steve had migrated his way closer and closer to Eddie, eventually ending up in his lap to one side, Eddie’s arms wrapped around his waist and his face hidden in Eddie’s neck from the slasher scene the movie was showing.

Eddie laughed fondly at his boyfriend, kissing him as he pulled away. “I can’t believe you’re so afraid of cheesy horror movies after seeing real, genuine monsters. You’re such a dork.” Steve huffed at him, face turning red quickly from embarrassment but hoping it wasn’t too obvious in the dark room.

“If you’re done teasing me now, Eds, we could continue with what we left off with in the kitchen..” Steve muttered, rolling his eyes but allowing himself to be drawn into what must have been the hundredth sweet kiss of the night. Date nights always ended in the exact same way, but Steve and Eddie both loved it every single time.
