Work Text:
It only took forty five minutes for the rain to start coming down.
That hadn’t actually been Alex’s doing; sure they were fucking bummed that Morgan dragged them on a road trip in an RV with only one bed just to sleep outside under the stars, but they would never do something that would ruin Morgan’s happiness. Even at the cost of their own.
Alex was so focused on brooding that they didn’t notice Morgan came back inside until they felt arms snaking around their waist.
“Sorry,” Morgan whispered, as if they weren’t sure how awake Alex was. “It started raining.”
Alex made a sound of acknowledgement, desperate to not let Morgan know how much this meant to them— they might be a horrible liar but they can at least feign sleep.
Morgan got settled, shifting around so that they were practically spooning Alex. They’d never cuddled this close before.
“Goodnight Alex,” Morgan said, even softer than before. “I love you.” They pressed a gentle kiss to Alex’s shoulder blade before settling in completely.
Alex stayed awake longer, feeling their partner— their spouse— fall asleep with ease.
It wasn’t for tax reasons.
Morgan loved them back.
