”I’m choosing to believe,” Alex said, cradling Ducky gently, ”that the reason you don’t cry when you’re in my arms is because you’re too intimidated by my presence.”
Alex glanced down at the baby, looking at his sleeping form. Sleeping. He looked so peaceful.
”And I need you to know. . .”
So many things to say. I love you. I’ll keep you safe forever. Nothing will ever hurt you.
”. . . that your dad is a bitch, and I kick his ass on the regular.”
There. That should tell baby Ducky everything he needed to know.
Ducky wiggled in his sleep, stretching and sucking on his pacifier, and Alex smiled.
Yes, Ducky knew.
