Chapter Text
As of the time I'm writing this, I sit in my music class. The teacher's blabbering is almost endless to me—I think we have thirty minutes before class officially ends. While I wait for the lesson to come to a close, I wonder: what should I do? I only have a notebook and a pen, and writing was the most subtle way of entertainment I had.
When I look at the students around me, I can't help but look so lowly of myself. Everyone knows that I'm one of St. Epiderm's top students, but the title of 'top student' almost makes me feel sour. Becoming the top student helps me keep my scholarship. I can't complain to anyone but myself. I kind of feel bad for myself too.
Huh. Writing is harder than it looks, isn't it? There's this one kid in my class that seems to be writing all the time, and she makes it look so easy. She writes during class, during recess, during lunch. It's like a muscle reflex to her. How fascinating. I wonder, what does she write about?
Now that I think of it, the notion of writing in a journal seems a little odd to me. The notebook I'm currently writing on isn't even a journal but instead my class notebook, so I suppose I'll have to rip out a few pages to write in until I can get myself a new notebook.

.
I was just pulled out of class.
No, I mean- Not like "pulled out" as in they kicked me out or dropped me from the class, I meant to say (write?) that the principal pulled me aside to have a word or two with me. Being the good student I was, I happily obliged and followed to their office.
I didn't expect anything good, and indeed, I didn't like what they told me.
They're sending me to IFWOT again. This is the third year in a row—aren't they sick of me yet? The first time I attended, I thought that there was something more to the convention. I don't know what I was expecting, maybe more fun, but I was so wrong. Every year, it's the same old boring activities and program proper. But bringing home a blue ribbon for St. Epiderm is what helps me keep my scholarship. Once again, I have no one but myself to complain to.
The tuition fee to St. Epiderm is expensive, but my mom says that their education is one of the best on the Boiling Isles, which justifies the means they're using to get me to stay in the school. (Means as in they'll keep "encouraging" me to work and study harder to keep my scholarship.) I wonder when they'll change their mind. Will they actually ever?
Oh, oops. I'm straying away from the main topic again, aren't I?
Continuing on about IFWOT, IFWOT is an abbreviation for "Instructing Future Witches of Tomorrow" which is a gathering composed of students from many different schools. It's run by the Emperor's Coven, and they all say that it's a way to prove someone's value as a witch. I know I say that I'm sick of the event, which I truly am, but if I don't attend then it's like I can't even see how everyone else sees me as a witch and it makes me feel so disappointed in myself and everyone else.
I doubt that this year is going to be any different, but I should stop self-loathing and instead start preparing. I need that blue ribbon.
Until then.
