Chapter 1: Release Radar

Chapter Text

When Sasha opened her release radar that morning, she didn’t expect to find what she did. Usually the songs that came up were mediocre at best, matching her interests, but not totally connecting with her. This however, was very different. The blonde had never heard of the artist, but the way their voice sounded was both unlike anything Sasha had even heard, yet familiar all the same. The artist went by “D.Arcy” and Sasha was immediately hooked. The lyrics in their stuff was obviously very personal to the artist, something they were passionate about. Themes of existentialism, death, resurrection and strangely a lot of lyrics about world domination. It wasn’t long before Sasha had downloaded D.Arcy’s entire album. It was impossible to choose a favorite. The first song she had discovered: “Greatest Minds”, was certainly up there. Along with “My million eyes,” and “Flowing green with envy.” Each song was strange, but Sasha found a deep liking to them somehow. It was only while she reflected on this that she realized the weird nature of their songs would totally be up Marcy’s alley. Bursting into her roommate’s room, phone held high, she opened her mouth, “Hey Mar-mar! Check out this cool new-” Sasha stopped when she realized there was a microphone in front of the shorter girl. Which wasn’t unusual. As the successful webcomic artist Marcy was, she often recorded videos or QnA’s for her fans. Sasha stopped in her tracks, embarrassed, “Sorry Mars, were you recording a QnA or something?” She asked bashfully. Marcy slowly nodded, barely looking over her shoulder at Sasha, “....yes..?” She responded. “Gotcha! I’ll come back later. Lemmie know when you’re done, I got something I think you’d like~!” With that, Sasha left, shuffling D.Arcy’s music yet again, going off to her own room to lift some weights.

How Sasha didn’t notice Marcy’s eyes suddenly being red and yellow was beyond them. Darcy breathed a heavy sigh of relief before returning to their newest recording. “Oh frog..” They groaned, burying their head in their hands. “How could we be so careless! Of course one of them would find our album!” They frantically opened their phone. Or did it count as Marcy’s phone? They did not care, they simply needed to check something. The sudden influx of followers on their Spotify account was certainly a surprise. Most of the usernames mushed together, none sticking out to the collection of Amphibia’s greatest minds, but the daunting image they saw before them made their heart pick up in fear.

“SashBiBright is now following you.”

And underneath,

“Anna_Banana is now following you.”

Darcy looked between the two usernames, knowing damn well from Marcy’s memories that those were the usernames of the two most important people in her life. Sasha Waybright and Anne Boonchuy. Sasha must have sent the album to Anne… Darcy grumbled, defeated. Surely they had figured out what was going on by now. They didn’t even try to be subtle with their artist name. Not to mention they didn’t even know the core still resided in Marcy. After this they would have to fess up to the truth, and likely be locked away until the other girls could find a way to expel them from Marcy’s body. It was then when the phone lit up with a notification.

“Hey Mars! Here's the album I wanted to show you!”

The message was followed by a link to the album Darcy had made.

Perhaps these girls were less smart than Darcy thought.
