Work Text:
“Please, no. I beg of you.”
“Nuh uh. We’re doing this.”
“I don’t have a choice?!”
“Not this time.”
“My own mother…”
“Oh knock it off. You’re just as dramatic as your mom.”
“I guess it runs in the family.”
Adora sighed as she rubbed circles in her temples. Stars, she loved this kid but they could be a pain sometimes.
“You know I love you, but you cannot wear that to the All Princess Ball,” Adora insisted.
“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?” Finn asked incredulously.
“You know very well that you can’t wear a tank top and shorts to a ball.”
“But I don’t even like balls!” Finn argued. Adora rolled her eyes and set down the formal wear she was holding.
“Finny,” Finn groaned at the nickname, “please. I told your mom you’d be dressed and ready to go by the time she got out of her meeting. We’re meeting Glimmer in ten minutes. Just please put it on.”
Finn stood stoically. They did not move, except the frustrated lash of their tail. Adora sighed once more.
“You, Mom, and I designed this together to make sure you’d love it. You can be a scamp in this, it just needs to be on you,” Adora assured. Finn narrowed their eyes at their Mama.
“Ugh, fine,” They relented. Adora sighed in relief and picked up the outfit again.
It was a work of genius, really. The top had a sweetheart neckline with beautiful chiffon pleats in a rich that complimented their Mama’s dress. The pants were pressed slacks, black and mostly fitted, resembling their Mom’s. And to top it off, new stirrups that were red and detailed in gold.
“Great! Get dressed and meet me out in the living room when you’re dressed,” Adora called as she left the room. When the door closed behind her, she shook her head at her kid’s antics.
Catra walked through the door to the family’s suite and smiled at seeing Adora, already dressed in her formalwear. A long white dress with a low back and plunge and white detailing.
“You look stunning,” the woman marveled as she approached. Adora giggled at the compliment.
“Thank you, love.”
“Did you manage to corral Finn into getting ready?” Catra asked, her tone amused. Adora shot her a look of exasperation.
“Barely,” she mumbled. Catra laughed at that.
“That’s my kid,” she joked.
“Ah yes, our favorite family past time. Giving me a hard time.”
Just then, Finn’s door opened and they stepped out into the living room. They looked dashing.
“You ready, kid?” Catra asked.
“Yep!”
The three left the suite and strolled down the hall at a leisurely pace to meet Bow and Glimmer. Though they would never admit it, Finn was kind of excited for Princess Prom. Even though they did not usually care for balls.
And as for Catra and Adora, well they were just excited to try Princess Prom again, this time not as enemies.
