Third Person P.O.V.
"Hi baby, how was your first day?" A heavily pregnant Rose asked as she hugged her eldest child. Sophia kissed Rose on the cheek and then her belly and whispered, "Hi, baby brother," before turning to greet her father in Russian.
"My first day went very well," Sophia answered primly.
"That's good," Dimitri said happily, rubbing a hand over his daughter's head.
"You didn't call anyone a 'fascist bastard' or throw any books?" Rose asked biting back a laugh as she clasped the buttons on Sophia's open jacket. Dimitri looked between Rose and Sophia in amusement, knowing full well why Rose was asking that specific question.
"No, actually, she's very well behaved," a voice said behind them. Rose and Dimitri turned to see Sophia's teacher Miss Sullivan standing there. She was a Moroi with dark curls and dark-skin complexion. She had light brown eyes that complimented her chocolate skin that much more. She was very young and very pretty.
"Well, we're quite glad to hear that," Dimitri replied politely.
"If she acts up please let us know, or feel free to put her in her place," Rose said in a low voice to Miss Sullivan.
The teacher laughed softly. "Will do Guardian Hathaway, although I don't think Sophia here is going to be a problem. She seems a very sweet and caring kid. I'm looking forward to having her in my class."
Miss Sullivan gave Rose and Dimitri a warm smile and then looked down at Sophia. "We'll see you here tomorrow, Sophia."
Sophia nodded excitedly. "Yes, Miss Sullivan. See you tomorrow!"
Miss Sullivan said goodbye to Rose and Dimitri and walked off to speak with a few other parents.
"She's definitely your daughter, comrade," Rose murmured once Miss Sullivan had left, softly massaging the crown of Sophia's head.
"True. But I have a feeling Nadezhda's going to be all you," Dimitri replied with a smirk thinking about their mischievous three-year-old before turning to Sophia. "So, Milana, what did you do today? Did you make any friends?"
Sophia nodded eagerly. "I made two boy friends."
Rose laughed out loud, the corners of her eyes pinching. "I think one boyfriend at a time is enough, Soph," Rose joked.
"Or how about none at all?" Dimitri muttered under his breath. Rose winked at him.
Sophia pouted and shook her head. "No. I want two boy friends. They're both nice to me." Dimitri shook his head in exasperation and amusement.
Rose ran a hand through her daughter's long hair and played with the ends. "Who are they?"
Sophia turned from her parents and pointed out a little boy with a dark complexion and black hair. "That's Chaddy." Sophia then scanned the room for the other boy with red hair and freckles. "And that's Masey."
Rose froze a little. A moment later tears formed in her eyes as she looked at the little boy named 'Masey'. He reminded her so much of her Mason. Instantly, she knew exactly who this boy was. He was Mason Ashford Junior. His mother was Mason Ashford's sister. Dimitri noticed the change in Rose and squeezed his wife's shoulder to comfort her.
Without warning, Sophia broke away from her parents and disappeared into the crowd of kids. She went to Masey first and grabbed his hand. For a moment there, Rose felt nostalgic; it was almost as if she was watching her younger self and Mason back in the day.
Sophia led Masey away to find Chaddy. She also grabbed Chaddy's hand and led both boys to her parents.
"These are my parents," Sophia whispered to the boys. Sophia then pointed at her mother's large belly. "And that's baby brother in there."
Looking up at Dimitri's huge form and the incredibly beautiful woman standing beside him, the boys became shy and cowered. In order to seem less intimidating, Dimitri crouched down to the kids' height.
"Nice to meet you both," Dimitri said kindly, offering both boys a smile and a gentle shake of their tiny hands.
"Hi Guardian Belikov, hi Guardian Hathaway," Mason Jr said shyly.
"Is it okay if we play with Sophia? My Mom told me not to mess with any Hathaways or Belikovs," Chad said, a worried expression on his face.
Dimitri and Rose laughed.
"Of course you can be friends with Sophia, but you three got to look out for each other, okay?" Rose replied.
The boys lit up at their approval. "Okay." They said in unison and grinned. Chad and Mason high-fived each other.
"Can Sophia play with us right now?" Mason Jr asked while Sophia smiled sweetly at her parents, her long brown hair framing her face.
Rose and Dimitri exchanged a look.
"Sure," Dimitri answered.
"But just for a few more minutes then we have to go, okay Soph?" Rose said, directing the end of her sentence to her daughter.
"Okay, thanks Mommy," Sophia said excitedly gently giving her mother a quick hug. She then ran off with the two boys to the playground. Dimitri stood up and wrapped his arm around Rose. They looked longingly at their five-year-old daughter. As they watched the three kids play, they instantly knew that Sophia, Chad and Mason Jr were going to be the best of friends for the rest of their lives. It reminded Dimitri of Ivan, and Rose of her own trio friendship when she was that little with Mason and Eddie. Rose could only hope history didn't repeat itself too much here; she didn't want poor Mason Jr or Chad to be turned down by Sophia or the other way around one day.
"She's going to be a real heartbreaker," Rose commented as she rested her head on Dimitri's shoulder.
"She might already be," Dimitri said as he wrapped an arm around Rose and pulled her closer, kissing the temple of her head.
