Work Text:
1:00 am
There is a rustling sound next to her, but she does not try to pay attention to it. There is a sheet of paper in her hands and a stack of the same papers on her desk, which she is now scrutinizing intently. Even when she hears the creak of a wooden door when someone comes inside, she doesn’t boil over with the desire to see who it is. Even if she can tell from her feet that that someone is a phoenix, it doesn’t give her a reason to pay attention. Her eyebrows are drawn down to the bridge of her nose, her glasses on her nose, her eyes intense and serious, slowly following the lines on the paper without missing the slightest mistake, one foot stomping on the wooden floor. Amelia hears the orange-haired girl let out a hum, and from under the paper she watches her step forward.
She feels an unfunny look on her face, Kiara clearly disappointed in her for working so late. The others have long since gone to bed, but only the phoenix can’t help but worry about the blonde who, instead of looking after herself, is keeping order at work.
Amelia finally puts the paper on the right side of the table, and the phoenix is about to open her mouth when she picks up another paper from the other end of the table. Kiara looks first at the left side of the table, where there are several stacks of papers, and then at the right side, where there are similar but smaller piles of papers. She concludes that some of them are checked and others still need to be checked. She still doesn’t like it.
Amelia notices the girl taking a few more steps forward, but decides it’s best to focus on the reports she has to bring to headquarters tomorrow. Without noticing what’s going on around her, she couldn’t immediately realize that the girl has disappeared from the room. Amelia only lifts her head a little to straighten and stretch her neck, but not to see if the girl is really gone or not. She could not foresee that she would feel hands on her shoulders and then hot breath as hot as the flames of a phoenix.
“You’re too tense, detective.” A low voice comes to her mind, and she realizes that Kiara has somehow managed to sneak up behind her. At this time, as if confirming her words, the phoenix rubs her long, thin fingers on the detective’s shoulders, which were definitely tense. Amelia lets out a sigh similar to the one a person holds his breath before, her neck a little flushed as she feels Kiara’s fingers. “How long have you been sitting there, dear?”
Amelia choked on her own exhalation as she felt the phoenix’s hot fingers knead her shoulders, moving to her neck. She won’t lie that her attention was now completely focused on the girl behind her, and not on the paper that’s still in her hands. She frowns her eyes, trying to focus on her work, but she still can’t get her hands off the back of her neck.
“I still have a few tenths of the reports to check before tomorrow,” she manages to answer, trying to suppress the exhalation she has made, as the girl leads her palms over the detective’s shoulders in an angry manner, yielding slightly forward. Amelia can’t concentrate, the piece of paper in her hands trembling directly in her hands, a slight blush gradually beginning to appear on her cheeks. “You had better go back to your bed. You’re too lightly dressed and you might get cold walking around cold rooms.”
Kiara was dressed in her t-shirt, which almost reached her knees, also I besides her underwear she is wearing nothing to cover her legs. Amelia hears the phoenix chuckle over her ear. The touch of her palm on her back and she can no longer read the written text on her report.
“You are overconfident, detective.” Kiara answers her in the sweetest whisper she’s heard only a few times in her life. Amelia feels the girl’s hand slip lightly under her shirt, sending heat through her body. “Have you forgotten what I really am, darling? Even going to Antarctica, I won’t freeze.”
“It still doesn’t mean you can’t get sick, Kiara,” Amelia keeps insisting. If she started this argument, she has to end it in her favor. She feels the phoenix’s hand disappear from her stomach, but only then feels that same warm palm resting on her cheek. Amelia can’t see what expression is on the girl’s face right now, but she can definitely tell that she’s smirking her mischievous smile. She can feel Kiara’s soft thumb caressing her flushed cheek.
A traitorous purr came out of her throat, which she immediately tried to suppress, her fingers clutching the sheet in her hands, threatening to crumple it. “P-Please go back to bed.”
“Don’t dream about it until you’re on the bed yourself, Amelia.” The way she puts emphasis on her name makes one involuntarily swallow. And yet Kiara was almost one step away from winning, but Amelia managed to suppress the urge to drop everything and obey her. “You’ll be looking at these papers until the morning! Darling, I’m more worried about your health.”
“Nothing will happen to me, Kiara.” The detective insists. Amelia exhales, putting the paper in the stack of others, and picking up another. Her eyes again follow the text written on the sheet. Kiara decides to look there too, wondering what the detective is even doing at a time like this. It’s all about politics, crime, and a lot of other things that knowledge of which won’t do her any good in life. “I’ve been working like this for years, so a day without sleep is nothing to me.”
Judging by the way the girl behind her snorted, she didn’t like the statement. Amelia felt the weight on her shoulders drop, and she tensed. The phoenix behind her was suddenly silent, making her a little nervous.
She was about to turn her head toward the girl who had been silent for too long, but she must have been overtaken. Amelia didn’t realize when Kiara had managed to pull this off, but she was already sitting with her back straight, grabbing the girl’s waist, who was suddenly in her lap. Amelia pressed her lips together in a thin band, feeling hot arms around her neck and two amethysts staring at her.
“If you go to sleep now, I’ll get off your back.” Kiara says, her whisper like a melody that can make, as if under hypnosis, you obey. But Amelia was not one to follow someone else’s orders. She continued to simply stare at the sheet of paper in front of her, not paying attention to the phoenix, which had decided to approach this with other solutions. “Maybe if I give you a reward, you’ll honor my request?”
“Depends what the reward is.” Amelia finds the confidence to keep her voice from sounding brittle and shaky because she can feel the girl running her finger over her jaw. Asking about the reward was petty because she knew immediately what the girl meant. “Anyway, bribing a person, that’s already-“
Amelia had expected this to happen, but when the phoenix kissed her on the lips, she still mooed in surprise, as if it were happening to her for the first time. The kiss was short, but Kiara managed to put all the passion and pressure into it to make Amelia speechless. She takes her eyes off the paper and meets her eyes with the orange-haired girl, who smirks at her with a mischievous smile. Amelia snorted. She wanted to be trapped again, but even though she knew all the antics of the phoenix, it was still hard for her to refuse.
“If you put everything aside for tomorrow now and finally get to know the bed, I’ll give you so much more.” Kiara’s sweet whisper touching her auricle is mesmerizing, sending shivers through the blonde’s body.
Her legs don’t listen to Amelia and lift her from her chair on their own, thereby lifting the already confused phoenix, who hadn’t expected the girl to be able to lift her so easily. Kiara clings to Amelia’s neck with her flaming hands, and her nose bumps into the curve of her neck. She lifts her gaze and sees the detective carrying her with a serious and frowning expression that only tells her that she has lost this battle.
“Good detective.” Kiara lets out as her lips touch the girl’s ear lobe, which moozes back as she feels the phoenix bite into her gristle. Amelia suppresses the urge to look at the orange-haired girl because she is now concentrated in her path.
Amelia carries the girl to her room, not her own, because she hasn’t been in her bedroom in a while and it’s no doubt a big mess, just like her office. Kiara watches over the blonde’s shoulder as she steps over the threshold and into her room.
“What a good girl you are, Amelia Watson.” Pronounces the phoenix and squeals as she is thrown straight onto the bed. She quickly begins to think as Amelia lifts the blanket from the other end of the bed and pulls it over her, remembering to climb on the bed herself. Amelia snuggles up against the girl’s back, covering them both with a lighter blanket and tucking into the orange top of her head, pulling the phoenix toward her. Kiara chuckles. “What about a bigger reward? Or does our detective, who achieves everything and everyone, refuse to accept it?”
Kiara hears Amelia snort back, muttering something, but even though her voice was muffled by her hair, she can make out the words, “You wanted me to go to bed sooner. If I accept the reward, not you, not me, won’t be able to sleep.”
Kiara understands what the girl is getting at and doesn’t hold back her laughter, which echoes throughout the team. She turns on her elbows to Amelia’s face and looks at the detective with playful eyes, which eventually widen in surprise, and her face contorts in wonder.
“Amelia Watson, in what way are you thinking about our night tonight? Are your thoughts so much more obscene than my agreement to your idea?” She utters in amazement, looking at the detective’s face, which is covered in a blush, she sees her lips begin to quiver. “If you want it so badly, why don’t we arrange and make your thoughts a reality?”
Amelia realizes that she is trapped between embarrassment and addiction, so she averts her gaze, shaking her head from side to side, fending off unnecessary thoughts. Her gaze is fixed on the closet in the corner of the room, her cheeks flaming treacherously.
“I… I think you should forget it, Miss Kiara.” She says, emphasizing the emphasis on the last words. The phoenix’s eyes light up when the girl addresses her this way, her lips twitching, distorting into a smile. “Because of you, I won’t be able to check my reports tomorrow.”
The orange-haired girl laughs melodiously again, sending a wave of goosebumps down the detective’s back as he hears this beautiful song. Amelia clears her throat, but not to say anything. She stares unsteadily at the phoenix, who also stares directly into her aquamarine eyes.
“I’ll spare you this time, dear.” Pronounces Kiara and leans down to rest her head on the blonde’s chest, her arms wrapped around her belly, her nose nipping at her collarbone. Amelia feels hot breath on her neck as the phoenix whispers softly to her. “But you won’t get away with your ideas next time.”
Amelia does not answer. Instead, she wraps one arm around the girl’s waist and places the other under her head. Her eyes are fixed on the ceiling, thinking that fatigue will quickly take over. She hears the phoenix’s rapid breathing, which each time she drenches her neck with warm breath, making the spot on which it hits blush. Amelia feels Kiara squeeze the fabric of her shirt in her sleep. The ceiling finally becomes a blur as Amelia puts a point after her activity, which is replaced by slight fatigue. Her eyelids grow heavy with the moment she blinks a few times, threatening to rob her of her vision entirely.
Under the calm breathing of the phoenix pressed against her body, Amelia closes her eyes, sinking into sleep.
