Chapter Text
Tommy kicked his legs out into the open air. He let the wind tousle his locks of gilded blonde hair and sweep past his legs as the twilight settled into the horizon. Above, he observed as the moon peeked through the veil of maroon skies and stars. Wilbur set himself beside Tommy, smiling as he looked down at the steel train tracks speeding by beneath them.
"What're you thinking about, Toms?" he asked gently, wrapping his arm around him. "You've got that thinking look again. I can see it."
"The fuck's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing," he shrugged, his eyes softening as they met his own. Tommy could swear there was nothing but warmth behind them. "I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted to make sure you're feeling alright."
"Well, I'm fine."
Wilbur sighed, letting the midnight atmosphere blanket over them. And the stars glistened back in Wilbur's eyes as he met their radiance. He dragged Tommy into his shoulder, guiding his head onto his collarbone until he rested right against it.
"Don't you love the stars?"
Tommy furrowed his brows. "Guess so."
"Look at that one," he said, pointing up to the heavens. There, amidst the oblivion strokes of void shined a bright, indigo star. "North star."
"Yeah," he nodded along, his words quiet but so terribly loud in the silence. Nothing else remained other than the gentle whirring of the train car underneath him and the faint heartbeat of Wilbur at his side. "What about it?"
"Well, when you look up, it's there to tell you where north is. It's always said to be there to guide you home. All you have to do is follow it."
“And?”
