Chapter Text
It was late summer, around the beginning of school. Maybe late august. It was the only time I didn't feel abnormal, or maybe I just didn't know his secret yet.
Belleville, New Jersey was a maze. I didn't know where I would turn up next. Maybe the grocery store, or a comic book store. Either way, it felt like a never ending labyrinth, or maybe I was just new and clueless.
"Hey, mom. Im gonna go out. I'll see you later." I yell, putting on my beat up converse.
"Be back before 10, please." She sighs.
I exit the house and climb onto my bike. Yes, I know how to drive. No, I do not trust myself enough yet.
I start to follow the early sunset west. I just wanted to explore this uncharted place.
School starts tomorrow. I hope I'm not the only new and clueless person.
While I ride my bike to whoever knows where, I pull out an iPod. I click on the smashing Pumpkins and put my earbuds in.
As I keep riding, I find a dollar store. Sick, I can go buy some snacks.
I lock my bike up to a pole and start to head into the store. Darting straight to the food isle, all I see are cheap knock off versions of my favorite chips. I pick one of them up, knowing they aren't gonna be the same, and paying for them. I didn't even say a word to the cashier, but he's probably dealt with worse.
I pop the bag open, immediately after paying for them. I take a chip out of the bag and eat it, while walking back to my bike.
Shit. It's already dark. I knew it was an early sunset, but isn't it still summer? Like late summer?
I start to head back home.
"Wait, did I make a turn or did I go straight..." I mumble to myself, confused. Great, I'm lost in the complete dark!
Suddenly, I feel something brush past me. It's faint, but it was heavy enough to notice. Or maybe I'm just paranoid and that was the wind.
I decide to head straight. I have to at least try to get home. It's better than standing in place until someone notices.
I feel the brush again, this time it's faster and I have a disgusting feeling in my gut. It's overwhelming and makes me uneasy.
"Hello?" I yell out quietly, hoping nobody answers.
"Hello?" I ask again. Nothing. Just me and the wind.
Maybe it's just the wind... I'll be fine.
I start to hear footsteps from behind me. Human footsteps...
"Hello?" I whisper in fear.
I feel breathing on my neck, but the breath isn't hot. It's cold as ice.
Oh, god. If I don't turn around, they will probably attack me. But if I do, they will probably attack me. I mean Id rather get a good look at them, then not. I close my eyes really tight and turn around. After waiting a few minutes, I open my eyes and see nothing. It's like nobody was here. What if I am just paranoid and scared?
I sigh and continue to ride my bike home. Surprisingly, I took the right way and got to my house before 10pm.
I plop onto my bed, thinking about what happened this night. What if someone was following me? Or maybe I was just freaked out... Either way, I'm exhausted and I have school tomorrow.
Next morning
I struggle to find the alarm clock, It's annoying really.
"JUST SHUT UP! LET ME SLEEP A COUPLE MORE MINUTES!" I scream into my pillow, almost crying.
The alarm keeps responding in a annoyed beeping.
"BEEP.
BEEP.
BEEP."
"FINE!" I yell, standing up and violently unplugging my alarm clock, cause it won't turn off.
I yawn a bit and head straight to my wardrobe. I pick up a shirt of some stupid antsy band, I saw a couple years ago in my old city. They weren't that good, I just felt bad, so I bought their merch. Under it, I put on some tight long sleeve sage shirt, so that the long sleeve and band shirt are layered. I also put on some bootcut jeans, along with my destroyed black high top converse.
I head straight to the bathroom to put on some makeup, brush my teeth, etc.
"Hurry up, y/n. I'm driving you, until you can get a ride." My mom sighs from downstairs.
"Yeah I know. Let me get breakfast." I yell, walking down the stairs. Backpack in hand. I walk over to the toaster and get a piece of bread, popping it into the toaster.
"Do you have everything?" My mom asks, annoyed and impatient.
"Yeah. I checked last night. I'll be fine."
The toaster pops again, indicating that it is finished with my toast.
I pick it up, and start to eat it, as I walk out of the house.
"Okay. Let's go." I mumble, as my mom unlocks the car.
The drive to my new high school was quiet and long. Me and my mom didn't get along that much. She was always super worried about me, especially after what happened at my old city. But I have to say, I've never been the best kid either. But I never had good influences, as my mom says. I think my mom is just worried, but I wish she wasn't.
I've been to this school before, I mean not for school, but during the summer, just after my mom and me moved here. I was riding my bike around and I found it.
"Okay, bye mom. I'll see you later." I say, getting out of the car and waving.
"Bye, y/n. I love you." I hear her say from behind me. I don't say anything back.
I start to walk into this puzzle. I look at all the different people. They are all in groups. Kinda like cliques, I guess. I just need to get to the office and get all my information.
Once I'm done with that, I read my schedule. Art was first, drums was next, math, English, creative writing, then civics. Since I'm a senior, I don't have to take any science, which is nice.
I walk into my first class, which is art. There's definitely a lot of people, but most of them look like sophomores.
Then it hits me. I'm late.
"Well, Ms.... What's your name? I never had you. I'm guessing your new." The teacher says.
"Oh y/n, l/n. Yeah, I'm new. Sorry I was late."
"Just make sure your not late again, please." The teacher says.
"You can sit next to the only other senior in here. Gerard, hold up your hand, so she knows where you are." The teacher directs.
Suddenly, a pale, black haired dude raises his hand, and he looks kinda annoyed. I'm guessing that Gerard. I walk over to him and sit next to him.
"Hi."
He doesn't respond.
"Oh okay." I sigh, starting to listen to the teacher.
This school year is gonna be hard.
