    Steve stares at him, and the other man’s mouth twists up into a playful smirk. That smirk is one that Steve knows intimately, and he’s distressed to see it in any place that isn’t in the clandestine meeting places of the countryside. How Steve could have been so fooled by this man, shakes him to his core. If he were to tell anyone of their secret rendezvous, it would lead to his family’s ruin. But perhaps it is not so dire, if he too, is a man of nobility. His family is in the same predicament. It still doesn’t account for Steve’s anger at being lied to.
