Sitting up from his bed, Rui stretched his arms. A bright ray of sunlight was beaming from his window, letting him know that the morning had arrived. Today was his birthday. He checked his phone and it was full of many notifications and happy birthday messages from social media and all the sorts. But after he checked every message, he didn't find one from Tsukasa.
That can't be right...
He checked again. Still nothing. Maybe he's still asleep. After all, it's 9am.
Even so, he figured Tsukasa would've been the first to message him out of everyone. Whenever Rui mentioned his birthday, Tsukasa would get all excited, begging him to keep reminding him of when it was so he wouldn't forget, and Rui was positive he had seen Tsukasa write it down in his digital calendar.
I guess there's not much to do right now. Should I ask to see Nene and Emu? Their last activity was quite recent.
Me to Nene, Emu: Hey, do either of you guys want to hang out? I think Tsukasa is still asleep.
Nene: Ok, I'm really sorry, but Emu and I are actually very busy right now. I swear I'll see you later Rui.
Me: Doing what? It's 9am.
Nene: Don't worry about it.
Rui closed the chat and sighed. Well, that was quite strange. They're never up to anything this early, especially since school is out. Nene is usually stowed away in her room. But I guess it wouldn't be unusual for Emu, she loved to practice choreography.
Maybe he should message Tsukasa. His last activity wasn't since yesterday, but Rui really wanted to talk to him. He always wanted to talk to him.
Me to Tsukasa ☆: Hey, what are you up to?
He set his phone down and decided to just play video games while he waited.
He ended up getting lost in time and 3 hours had passed with no update from Nene nor Tsukasa. It kind of sucked. He had planned on soending the day with his friends.
I guess I could visit the sekai...
He opened up his playlist, scrolling down to Untitled and playing the song. His screen lit up as he transported into the wonderland sekai.
He took a look around. The Kagamines were in the distance, and there was some other voices, but they were too far to be made out.
"Hey guys!" He said, waving to the Kagamines. They both jumped and ran to Rui.
"Happy birthday Rui! It's nice to see you!" Rin and Len cheered.
"Haha.. thank you. Have you seen Tsukasa at all today?"
The two exchanged wide-eyed glances, then slowly looked back at Rui.
"Umm.. no!! Haha that's so funny now that you mention it, where could he be.." Len said, scratching his neck.
Rui raised his eyebrows. "Are you lying to me?"
Len started to panic. "No!" he claimed, throwing up his hands.
"Um.. um.. we'll see you later Rui!" Rin grabbed his arm, transporting him out of the sekai within an instant.
Rui was soon back in his bedroom. A wave of sadness had passed over him. Why hadn't he seen Tsukasa, and why did Len lie to him? Why didn't they want to spend time with him on his birthday?
Before he could even process what was happening, Rui felt tears falling down his cheeks. Maybe Tsukasa had forgotten about me after all.
He sighed, snuggling back up into his bed, deciding to waste the day away.

About an hour later, Rui awoke to his phone ringing. It was Tsukasa, finally. He quickly answered.
"Hey, come open your door, I'm here," Tsukasa said.
"...Okay?"
He hung up as soon as he had called. Stuffing his phone in his pocket, he went to go answer the dorr for Tsukasa. He pulled the knob open, inviting him in.
He immediately noticed that Tsukasa was wearing a suit, and his hair had been styled.
"What in God's na-"
"You need to go change into something other than pajamas."
"Why?"
"Just do it," Tsukasa insisted. "I'll wait out here for you."
Confused, Rui went back up into his room, searching his closet for something that would look good on him. He put on a button up, blue jeans, and an old pair of sneakers then quickly ran back down the stairs to meet Tsukasa.
"Okay, we need to go to the sekai."
Rui only nodded, opening his playlist to play the untitled song yet again.
A few moments later, the two were standing together in the sekai.
Tsukasa cleared his throat. "Okay, um.. can I hold your hand?"
"Sure..?"
Tsukasa took no time to grab Rui's hand, leading him up towards many voices in the distance. There was a HUGE fort, decorated with so much detail, and was nearly the size of a small house. There was even a door and everything. But with the magic of the sekais, it wasn't surprising that something like this could be created. But Rui still had no idea what was going on. Tsukasa knocked on the door, and it opened a few second later to Kaito.
"Happy birthday Rui. Good to finally see you. It's been some time. I've been kind of busy, but we hope that you like what you see," he said with a smile.
"Thank you, it looks really cool."
"You should thank Tsukasa. It was his idea," Kaito says with a wink.
Tsukasa goes red. "Just let us in already."
Kaito laughs, moving out of the way so that him and Tsukasa are able to pass through.
He notices how the ceiling dives upwards like a tent, and how theres balloons and decorations everywhere. The atmosphere is really breathtaking.
"Did you really do all of this?" Rui asks.
"No.. I had some help."
He gestures to the right, and Rui looks over to see Nene and Emu sitting in the corner.
"Wonderhoyyyy! Happy birthday again, Rui!" Emu shouts, running at him to tackle-hug him.
"Ah jeez... thank you Emu.."
Emu lets go of him.
"Thank you all, this really looks so amazing."
"Yeah, and it's your own permanent space too, so you can feel free to come here whenever you want to do nerd shit like create more robots or stuff," Nene points out.
"It's not nerd shit, I'm just smarter than you."
"Whatever, birthday baby."
"Oh, and one last thing," Tsukasa mentions. "Follow me."
Tsukasa leads Rui out to the back, and the door opens to a small back porch. There's a hammock and a chair. They both sit next to each other on the hammock.
Tsukasa pulls a blue envelope out of his pocket, handing it to Rui.
"It's.. um.. kind of embarrassing but you can read it right now if you want."
Rui tears open the envelope and slides out the contents. There's a small, white happy birthday card.
He opens it gently.
Happy birthday Rui! A few weeks ago when you first told me of your birthday, I came up with the idea to create this home for you. I know you aren't a fan of your current household right now since you often find yourself alone, but I was hoping that you could find some peace here. Every day, Nene, Emu and I came her for a few hours to make adjustments. I'm sorry if you ever felt like we were ignoring you. I wanted your birthday to be special.
But its not just that. There's been a few things on my mind as of recently. And that's how I feel about us, as friends. But one day, It didn't feel like enough. And I hope that this gift for you shows you how much I care about you. So, will you be my boyfriend, Rui?

Rui says nothing as he watches drops of tears fall onto his card.
"Wait, don't cry- today's supposed to be all smiles..." Tsukasa says with a soft chuckle.
Rui rests his hand on Tsukasa's cheek. Before the other can respond, he quickly moves forward, pressing his lips into Tsukasa's. Smiling, Rui pulls away and moves in to hug Tsukasa.
"Is that a yes..?"
"Of course it's a yes.. I love you."
