"Huh. I didn't think we'd make it this far again... today."
The fresh breeze of the ocean's waves gently blew their hair. For the third time in twenty-four hours, they'd made it to the entrance of Nanba Prison. Nico blinked rapidly as he took in the breathtaking view. "Wow... It sure is prettier at night, huh?"
"Yeah." Rock put his hands on his hips. "Doesn't seem fair. Like it's mocking us."
"Well, we have about three minutes before Hajime comes to haul us away. So let's enjoy the view, right?" Uno grinned dryly and pulled on his cap.
Jyugo chanced one step further so he could see more of the stars. The brilliant hues of the night sky, ranging from deep indigo to a dazzling pink, seemed to beckon them closer. Come and reclaim the freedom you crave. See what the world truly has to offer you.
Jyugo frowned. It was an offer that could never be accepted - at least, not as long as they were stuck here in Nanba Prison, with no answers and no way out. If only.
As if he could read Jyugo's mind, Uno spoke up. "Hey, quit it with the long face. We won't be stuck here forever, bud." Uno slung his arm over Jyugo's shoulders. "Whether it's the legal way, or not-so-legal way... We'll get out someday. And when that day comes, I'll teach you all about the finer points of life."
"Nah, don't let him teach you everything," Rock huffed. "All he has to teach about is girls. But I can show you what's really important. When we get out, I'll take you guys around to the best restaurants in America!"
"Yeah!" Nico pumped his fists in excitement. "And I'll show you guys my favorite comic shops! It'll be so much fun."
Jyugo couldn't help grinning at his friends' infectious optimism. "Yeah... that doesn't sound half-bad."
"Just you wait." Uno rose one fist into the air, pointed onwards to the distant horizon. "We'll be free of this place someday. And when we are, the world had better watch out!"
The four of them stood shoulder to shoulder, united in their friendship and shared goal, as the stars twinkled before them. Yeah... Jyugo exhaled. As long as I'm with you guys, anything is possible. Someday, we'll get to make our dreams come true.
As they stood together quietly, contemplating their hopes for the future, Nico spoke softly. "...I just hope Futamata-sensei knows what she's doing. Wouldn't it be sad if our hopes for the future went up in melodramatic smoke?"
There was a silent beat, and then Rock blinked down at his friend. "What the hell does that mean?"
