Lilac fingers along my spine.

Summary:

Marcy finally asks Sasha about the scar travelling down her spine.

Work Text:

Marcy knew about most of Sasha's scars that littered her body.

She knew about the one from cheerleading practice, the one from the dog bite, the one from toad tower. But there was one scar on Sasha's body that she knew little about, only that it wasn't there when Marcy saw Sasha before the Core possessed her and it was fresh after they returned to earth.

Stepping through the portal, all three girls were rushed to the hospital to go over their injuries and to avoid that mass of reporters trying to indulge in to the attack that had just been prevented earlier that day.

That was when Marcy first saw the massive cut running from Sasha's shoulder blades all the way down her spine, stopping shy of her tail-bone. The wound had been cauterized but still showed a burning red colour, with dried blood scattering the wound.

When the trio finally reunited after they had been treated, Marcy had attempted to get the details about Sasha's massive scarring. But the blonde had ignored her and focused on the collection of scars her two friends had gained over their time in Amphibia.

Through moving interstate, high school, collage, moving back in to the state, falling in love and moving in together, Marcy still couldn't get the full story of the massive scar running up her partners spine.

When Sasha was 23, she had a collection of tattoo's sprawled across her body, and had delicately placed a fine-lined heron placed over the scar, the tattoo couldn't cover the scar but Marcy thinks that was the intention, not to forget about whatever had happened but to grow from it and move on.

Sometimes when Sasha would clean the apartment or return from working out, she would be wearing a tank top and the top of the scar would show, the angry red fading in the years and turning a soft pink colour.

One afternoon, the anticipation grew too much and Marcy was determined to find out what caused such an ugly scar on her girlfriend, even if she was scared of the answer, she felt like she need to know.

Both girls were in the lounge room, on their laptops finishing off any work they needed to do, Marcy was writing up the next story board for her webcomic and Sasha was responding to work emails. The sound of typing filled the air with soft music playing in the background.

Even if it was odd to other, the girls like to set aside time during the day to get their work done, while being in each others company, occasionally stopping for breaks but otherwise the comfortable silence allowed them to work on their individual projects while still spending time together.

Of course, Marcy couldn't focus on her task as well as Sasha, her eyes kept drifting to her partner, she was wearing a tank top which let her scars and tattoos peak through.
Marcy had a script going through her head on how she would ask Sasha about the scar and what she would do if she refused to tell her.

Marcy didn't want to be to forceful or aggressive. But the urge to know was starting to chew her up.

"Mars." Sasha let out softly without taking her eyes of her screen, her fingers still scanning the keyboard and continuing her message as she caught her raven haired girl friend off guard.

A little squeak left Marcy's mouth as she realised she'd been caught "Yes." She let out innocently still looking at the busy psychologist.

"Why do you keep staring at me?" Asked playfully as she moved her face towards Marcy, her eye's still on the computer as she sent off the last bits of information.

"Uhhh" Marcy started, suddenly losing all confidence, especially when Sasha clicked her laptop closed and fully turned towards her, her bright blue eyes staring in to Marcy's brown ones.

A stare so intense, it wasn't surprising she was a commander of a rebellion.

"I- I wanted to ask you something, and its okay if you don't want to answer but I wanted to know for a really long time and I think since y'know we've been dating for a year now and we returned from Amphibia 10 years ago it's time to have a discussion about it y'know-" "Mars slow down and just ask me whatever it is you are dying to know"

Sasha cut off Marcy's rambling and gave her the iconic smirk she's know for as she grabbed her girlfriends hand.

Looking at her bright blue eyes, she traced Sasha's whole face with her eyes.

From her hairline to her lips, to her light pink scar that matched the colour of all of her other scars.

Marcy took a breath in and finally asked her question.

"What happened, with the scar on your back I mean?"

Sasha looked straight back at her partner, her eyes widening like a deer in headlights, the rest of her seemed calm and grounded but the blue swirled around her eyes and clashed with Marcy's. She let out a sigh and moved to face away from Marcy, she pulled up her shirt and revealed her back entirely to her partner.

Even after 10 years and patterns of black ink covering it, the damage to the skin was still noticeable, the tears and pink flesh still danced across her skin, telling a tale of trauma and passion.

Marcy reached out with one hand and touched the scar lightly, tracing it up and down, running her fingers through the curves and divots in Sasha's skin.

"Mars, what happened wasn't your fault. " Sasha started out quietly as Marcy's fingers danced over the skin. "That thing was in control and I never, not once thought of this as damage from you." she continued throwing a look over her shoulder.

Marcy fingers stopped at the top of the scar, moving forward and wrapping her arms around Sasha, her chest resting on her girlfriends back. Tears pin-pricked her eyes as she let out a sniffle. As she had suspected, the Core had done so much damage with her body. It made her feel sick of how much pain she caused her girlfriend while she was helpless. In a room locked out of her own mind.

"Oh Sash" she let out holding on to the blonde. "Even if it's not my fault... I'm so sorry for what that thing did to you. You must of been in so much pain"

The two girls then sat in silence as Sasha felt Marcy breathing on her, her heart beat rippling from her chest against Sasha's back. They were intwined in a comfortable knot. Sasha eventually moved away and pulled her shirt back in place, a sigh leaving her chest as turned and looked at her girlfriend before engulfing her in another hug.

Marcy crumbled in to the hug and held back tear finally flooded down her face as Sasha's tight grip held her in place.

As if to mimic Marcy's movements, Sasha traced up and down her girlfriends back, even through Marcy's shirt she could feel the skin tissue that had scarred over time.

"It's okay Marbles, let it all out, it's not your fault." She said soothing sweet whispers in to Marcy's ear as she let herself feel every emotion she had from that day.

After a good cry, Marcy straightened up and looked at Sasha with big puffy eyes. She sniffed and smiled looking at her girlfriend, who had fought tirelessly to save her from the Core, who, even critically injured saved Amphibia. Even with the mistakes she had made, the sacrifices she made to atone for them out weighed the mistakes ten-fold.

"So, who's scar do you think it bigger?" Marcy started with a giggle, breaking the soft and sad moment the two had just shared.

"Uh Mine obviously" Sasha smirked as she stood up from the couch and grabbed her laptop, moving it to the coffee table.

"But if we take both of mine, they're double the size of yours" Marcy responded smugly, getting up and following her girlfriend to their kitchen, Sasha had turned on the kettle and brought two mugs down from the shelf, placing tea bags and sugar in each.

"Wow cheating" Sasha laughed "But if we're combining them then I definitely win"

"You always have to come first don't you" Marcy snorted as she leaned against the wall, watching her girlfriend make tea for them, a perfectly domestic moment, ruined by Sasha's smug smirk plastered all over her face "I mean... I definitely didn't last night"
