Sypha knew she was perhaps the second luckiest person in the world, second only to Trevor.
...Well, he was lucky up till the point Alucard had to reset his broken arm and debride his burn wounds.
“Are you sure you gave him enough medicine?” Sypha pressed Alucard, “His screams were echoing through the whole castle, it was horrible!”
“If I had given him any more, he would have had to be put on a breathing machine of my father’s creation, which I’m not entirely sure how to operate,” he retorts, “But I assure you, his pain is very well managed. In a few hours he won’t even remember the process.”
“Alright,” she nodded, satisfied with the answer, “I’m sorry, I’m just-... I just got him back.” she sighed, “And I just want to hold him tight and make sure nothing ever happens again.”
Alucard arched his brow, “Oh please, you and I both know you’d be the first one to get bored and run headfirst back into trouble.” he chuckled, “But you’re more than welcome to stay by his side while he recovers, as long as you both take it easy.”
“Hey now, I just found out I’m becoming a mother,” she smirked a bit, “I’ll level off a bit.”
Alucard just gave a very doubtful “Mhmm” before patting her shoulder and walking down the hall.
Sypha watches him for a moment, before pushing open the door.
The sharp smell of alcohol lingers in the air alongside the weaker scent of herbs, likely the scent of medicine.
Trevor lies in a clean nightgown, one arm bandaged with layers of gauze and wrappings and the other stabilized in a plaster cast and sling. He seemed to be staring at nothing until the door opened, to which he looked over and smiled brightly upon seeing his love, “Syphaaaaa! You came!”
The slur in his voice is too goofy not to laugh at, “Alucard wasn’t kidding,” she said as she walked over, “he gave you some good stuff.”
“The best stuff,” he gave a weak thumbs up, watching her with a dopey expression as she sat at his side, “How’re you and baby?”
“Well, let me begin by saying ‘morning sickness’ is a misleading name,” she tsks, “I have to have ginger with every meal, or I’ll throw it back up.”
“Ah fuck, that sssssucks.” he says, “you should-, you should make Alucard make you a fancy medicine for that.”
“Well, he’s contacted my tribe.” she smiles, petting his head, “i’m sure they’ll help us through everything too.”
Trevor paused, “... shit. They’re gonna know I fucked you.”
“ Trevor! ” she wheezed, choking on air.
“What!? It’s true! I’m gonna see your gramps again and look him in the eyes knowing that he knows I had sex with his grandaughter!”
“I’m a grown woman, if it bothers him that I have sex it’s his problem.” she laughs, “... how’d you know before I did?”
He shrugged, “Just had a feeling. You were cursing and angry a lot more than normal, which usually means you're on your period but there were no blood rags when we did laundry.”
Sypha wasn’t sure whether to be impressed or annoyed that he had her figured out so well.
“I mean, I was for sure.” he continued, “But… I figured I’d cover all my bases before the last fight.”
“...Why didn’t you let me fight with you?” she asked, “If you had called for me, I wouldn’t have hesitated.”
“Cause I wanted you and baby to be safe,” he answered, lolling his head onto her shoulder, “Wasn’t like I knew I was gonna come back from the dead.”
Sypha nodded, “I know…” she conceded solemnly. Still they had been a team for so long that not being there by his side for the final fight deeply upset a part of herself, as selfish as that was.
“Came back from the dead like a, like a zombie,” Trevor continued his barely cohesive thought, “A handsome one, sans the rotting flesh.”
She chuckled, “Good thing, I would have broken up with you otherwise.”
The Belmont slowly blinked up at her, “Whaaaaat? Liar, I still would have had my charms!”
“A charming man is one thing, sleeping beside his smelly corpse is another.”
“You’ve smelled me at my worst, it probably wouldn’t be much worse than that!”
“I did, and I immediately shoved you away and vomited all over the floor.” she said as she rolled her eyes.
Trevor chuckled, “God, I love you so much,” he said as he nuzzled into her lap, “I wanna marry you.”
Sypha could have sworn time itself stopped in that moment. She could no longer hear the sound of birdsong outside the window over her own heartbeat, which felt both too fast and too slow, “What?”
“I’d marry you,” he repeats nonchalantly with a shrug, “I knew I would from the moment we began adventuring and shit. You’re a spitfire with a good heart, and what else do you do with a woman as amazing as you besides propose to her and praying she says ‘yes’?”
Sypha could feel tears welling up beside her eyes, clearing her throat in an attempt to get rid of the lump forming there, “Well that’s… certainly something to consider.”
“You’d make a good wife, Sypha.” he said as he patted her knee, “Sypha Wife-a. Syph-y Wifey.”
“And I think that’s your cue to go to bed,” she said, pulling the covers over him, “Promise to take it easy?”
Trevor grumbled as the weight of the covers suddenly made him aware of his fatigue, “No promises…” he murmured as his eyes fluttered shut.
As she watched him sleep, a thousand thoughts went through her mind.
Was he being serious? Was this the drugs talking or had he really been considering marriage for that long?
And what was his reaction going to be when she said yes?
