Before they've reached the main gates into the festival, the sound of laughter, excited children, and the smell of a crisp fall breeze, combined with just a hint of pumpkin spice and freshly baked cinnamon apples is noticeable in the air. The excitement is almost contagious, and Gold finds himself bouncing along the sidewalk, tugging on the hand he keeps intertwined with Silver's to pull him towards the festival.
They'll get there no matter what, but now that it's within sight, and the smells and sounds of a childhood tradition come rushing back to him, he's eager to get into the fairgrounds, and show Silver what a proper Halloween festival looks like.

‘Are you sure you’ll be okay by yourself for a few weeks?’
It’s the fifteenth time Blue has asked, and it’s starting to get on Red’s nerves. Something must show on his face, because Blue waves a hand, sighing.
‘It’s not that. I know you can take care of yourself,’ he shrugs, and then rests a hand gently on the cast on Red’s leg, ‘It’s this.’
Red glances down, frowning. His frown deepens at the signatures scrawled across the plaster – he’d initially tried to stop people from doing it, didn’t like the messiness, but a couple of the Battle Tree regulars did it anyway. As always, people really didn’t get ‘no’. Eventually, he gave in.
Even though Blue signed last, he managed to take up the most space.
‘I can cancel,’ Blue offers, again, but his heart is not in it. He’s been looking forward to this. They’ve been looking forward to this.
The plan had been Kalos, for four weeks. Blue had gotten an invitation to take part in a research tour, an expedition of the mountains. Naturally, Red had been immediately invited, with the plan to extend the expedition to a more personal tour of the country afterwards.
Then, Red broke his leg.
