In the strange realm of the Ghost Zone, three young ladies and a newborn were at the Ghost Zone equivalent of a Starbucks. Two ladies were half-ghost, with the newborn being a half-ghost as well.
The final lady wasn't ghostly in any way. However, she'd received a Ghost Mark. As the name implies, a Ghost Mark is each ghost's unique signature. Those who receive the Mark have a symbiotic bond with those who Marked them.
One perk of it? It allowed them to travel freely through the Ghost Zone. Moreover, it allowed them to consume spectral food when within the Zone. This is why the thick green coffee they're drinking wasn't phasing through the human woman.
"I'm sorry if you feel like a fish out of water, Stacy. However, we all needed a break from the troubles of the human world. So I figured having our coffee date would be better in the Ghost Zone," explained Magdalene Soulwings, AKA Magdalene Masters.
Mag and her husband Vlad were the first half-ghosts. Plus the first to have hybrid children. Her friend Leta had only been a half-ghost for a year. But only a fortnight ago, given birth to the fourth hybrid child.
"It's wonderful, Mag. However, I also need to escape the drama of the real world. I may be one of the best lawyers in the world, but even I need a break."
"How are things going for your family?" inquired Leta as she fed her new daughter Rainbow her formula.
"Well, you can imagine how messed up the world is right now? So much hate and violence? The fact the United States has regressed instead of progressing?"
"I assume you're talking about the gun violence, political division, and all the other crap going on back home?" Mag inquired as she sipped her coffee.
"I sure am. I wouldn't be surprised if some racist a-holes tried to take a bat to kill someone if the child marries someone, not of the same race," Stacey looked very depressed.
"I've heard a few Reddit stories about that thing happening all the time in the 60s and 70s. Luckily my grandparents didn't care. My parents were of different races. You've also told us your family didn't have any issues with you marrying a Black man. Or am I incorrect?" Leta inquired as she now burped her daughter.
"Thankfully, my family is open-minded and accepting. So no, they had no objections to me marrying Ian."
"Well, we only had one person in my family that objected to my mother marrying my father. That, of course, is my crazy aunt. Again she's racist and has every phobia on the planet."
"Given the fact she wanted to hijack your baby shower? I understand completely why your family went no contact with her!" Mag interjects thinking about the event.
"Yes, thankfully, we went no contact. I'm also glad Walker found a way to deal with her. I don't know what he did to her. But she's become less entitled plus doesn't run her mouth as much. At least from I'm able to gather."
Mag's expression seemed somewhere between amusement and fear. "We all know how essential rules are, too, Walker. However, he can also be quite creative in punishing those not following them. Either way? I'd never want to be on the receiving end of one of his punishments."
"Nor would I. I'm only protected because I'm Marked. Plus, my daughter has a Ghost Gene! Nevertheless, I'd not want to cross the Warden!" Stacy shuddered as she said that.
"Well, let's not think about that for now. How about we focus on happier things? Such as our spouses and children?" Leta suggested, to which the other two moms agreed.
They happily gossiped as they spoke about how their children were doing, from academic achievements to typical growing pains. They didn't try to one-up each other.
Instead, they listened and offered support and advice to each other. They also talked about their marriages. Being women, they're slightly more insightful with communication and feelings.
So, they'd hope they'd help their better halves by doing better at it. Even though Leta married a woman? Being married to anyone comes with challenges, whether they're ghosts or humans. Either way? It had been a pleasant morning chatting over some otherworldly coffee. A lovely day, undoubtedly!
