Not a Place of Honour

Summary:

I've always thought of Malice as, on some level, a nuclear waste metaphor.

And the central problem with long-term nuclear waste warning messages is that, if you tell people that they absolutely do not want to touch something, they will want to touch it.

Work Text:

Vertical comic with no panel divisions. Only black and white are used, with the majority of the panels being in the style of worn, simplistic art. Text demarks panel divisions. Text: This message is a warning about danger. Text: Sending this message was important to us. Image: The Sheikah eye-and-tear symbol. Text: We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture. Image: Ganon, grinning and wielding his trident. The Triforce of power is depicted near him. Text: This place is not a place of honour. Image: Ganon attacking Link with the trident, sending Link flying. Text: No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here. Image: Zelda casting a spell, with the Triforce of Wisdom and hands throwing the Sheikah symbol behind her. Text: Nothing valued is here. Image: Ganon, held down by the hand, is behind bars. Text: What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. Image: Close up of Ganon's angry face with bloodshot eyes, emanating lightning bolts. Text: The form of the danger is an emanation of energy. Image: Swirls. Text: The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours. Image: Stick figures of a human and horse running. Behind them are a dead human and horse, these being attacked by lightning bolts. Text: The danger is to the body, and it can kill. Image: A rough diagram of Ganon sealed deep underground, with his Malice represented as swirls that expand through the chamber. The chamber has a rectangle closing it off from the rest of the world, and no Malice escapes beyond. Text: The danger is unleashed only if you disturb this place physically. Image: In a different, more realistic style, the current Link and Zelda from Breath of the Wild look down into a chamber which has wisps creeping up from it. Text: This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.
