Summary
If there’s one thing Twilight knows, it’s that life is a frail thing.
Not to say the others didn’t know, no, they were well aware of the difference between life and death, but growing up on a farm, Twilight had dealt with his fair share of how precious life is and how quickly that can be taken away. He knew that life was fragile.
Yet the memory kept replaying every time he closed his eyes, a constant loop that was stained fresh in his mind. He still couldn’t believe what had happened, the idea itself heaved at his heart and had him nearly choke on his breath. He found himself looking downwards again.
One, two. In, out.
Wild was still breathing.

“You heard her, right?” his voice swelled in a mournful tone, “Back on the tower, after you activated it. Link, tell me you heard her.” mourning twisted into desperation.Who? Link wanted to ask, the memory of a faint, unfamiliar voice a blur before him. Subconsciously, he realised this had been the first time the Old Man had called him something other than boy.
A tense silence fell over them.

For what felt like the fifteenth time today, Gordon enhanced his vision and shot through whatever it was that was dragging Dr. Coomer toward the ceiling. Dr. Coomer dropped to the ground with a crash and immediately sprinted off.
“Hurry up, Gordon!” he called back. “We don’t want to waste time!”
Gordon dialed his sight back down to normal with more effort than it usually took and jogged after Dr. Coomer, grumbling to himself under his breath. When he joined Black Mesa, he hadn’t signed up for the end of the world.
