a miracle coming across my life

Summary:

He looked up in horror at Yixuan who was incredulously staring at him. “Xuan-ge,” he began with quivering lips, “this is Xiao Zhan.”

Yixuan’s face settled into realization and his eyes widened as he looked down at Xiao Zhan. “Are you sure?”

Yibo nodded grimly.

“He’s pregnant, Yibo.”

Yibo nodded again.

Chapter Text

Yibo walked into his room and slammed the door behind him; it was out of frustration and exhaustion that he undid his tie and rolled up his shirt sleeves. It was beginning to get chilly outdoors but still his nightly runs had him sweating buckets.

Right now he was in the middle of nowhere, in a small, rural town in northern China. The stars here seemed to be hung lower, the air crisper, and yet not many souls around.

That was what frustrated him the most. Whenever he went out on a job, the worst part of his mission was the asking around. Where was he last seen? Did you see this man last night? Who was he with?

Yibo would rather be back at headquarters annoying Wenhan and Bowen, and placing bets on who would come back with a gunshot wound: Yixuan-ge or Zheng-ge?

He snickered to himself as he remembered the one time they both showed up with gunshot wounds but none of them had voted both. Losing money had been worth seeing Xuan Lu’s thunderous expression as she realized what the bets were placed on.

The door creaked open behind him as he contemplated going back home.

“You seem to be in a good mood.” A familiar voice stated, painting a big grin on Yibo’s face as he turned around. His breath caught in his chest at the sight.

Zhan-ge.

The omega was dressed down for the night, in a simple set of sweatpants and a t-shirt that was loose around the collar. To Yibo, he was the most perfect this way. With him, he carried a subtle scent of flowers, the kind that soothed his soul and curled up deliciously behind his tongue.

He was staring at Yibo with glittering eyes and a sharp smile. In the week that Yibo had known him as the bartender downstairs in the rundown hotel bar, he’d made it known that he was no ordinary omega.

Zhan-ge, because he refused to tell Yibo his last name, was as feisty and quick-witted as his need to cuss. From the moment they’d shyly introduced themselves, Zhan-ge had stubbornly wormed his way into Yibo’s daily routine.

In the mornings, Yibo would get a glimpse of sleep-drunk eyes and moles scattered over a smooth expanse of skin. He would wake the omega up with sweet kisses and long embraces. After, he would put himself through a gruelling day of hunting in the town where no one spoke to him. The one treat he always looked forward to upon getting back to his terrible hotel room was falling into bed with the omega.

Yibo smirked at his curious expression, “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

Zhan-ge raised an eyebrow, “Cheating on me already?”

Yibo frowned, “Don’t joke about that, you know I wouldn’t.”

Zhan-ge’s expression cleared as he laughed, “I’m kidding! Anyway I would’ve smelled another omega on you.”

Grinning, Yibo stalked over to him and pulled his long frame against his body, “Oh? And what are you gonna do when you smell another omega on your alpha?”

Zhan-ge snorted and rolled his eyes, “When that happens, we’ll see. Because you’re not exactly my alpha now, are you?”

Yibo dug his fingers into Zhan-ge’s waist, relishing in his yelp, “Who’s not your alpha?”

Zhan-ge remained quiet even as his mouth quirked in mock thought.

Yibo jerked the omega in his embrace toward him and demanded, “ Who’s not your alpha ?”

The infuriating man had the audacity to pout at Yibo, “You’re so mean, treating your omega like this. Wang-laoshi is so cruel.” He batted his eyelashes outlandishly at Yibo, who pinched his waist, enjoying his adorable squeak.

Yibo leaned in for a kiss that was granted to him, and spent the next few moments utterly drowning in the omega’s inviting scent and the pleasure of having his lips on heated skin. He relished in Zhan-ge’s panting and heaving breaths as he finally wrestled the omega down onto his bed, shedding clothes as they went.

This was not the first time they made love in this hotel room. Wang Yibo would admit openly to anyone that ever since he’d laid eyes on his omega, yes, his omega , he’d been a goner. He’d already given his heart away to the man who’d smiled brightly at him from behind the bar, the dim lights around him doing nothing to take away the luminescence of his soul. His body had soon responded and within the hour, the two had taken off in a flurry of limbs just upstairs to his hotel room.

That was last week, and now Yibo was dead-set on leaving this awful town behind with his omega. He’d find a way to convince Zhan-ge to leave with him and he couldn’t wait to introduce his family to the omega who’d managed to capture his heart.

Zhan-ge fell asleep in his arms soon after, and Yibo smiled down at the curve of his cheek, the indent of his dimple that shone even in sleep, his soft locks of hair that tickled deliciously under his chin. Yibo took a deep breath and gathered him closer as he drifted off.

Merely hours later, he was jolted out of his deep sleep with the incessant ringing of his phone. Grumbling, he extricated himself from his omega’s long limbs and reached over to answer the call.

Wei?” His voice came out hoarse and he cleared his throat even as the shouting began.

“Wait wait, I can’t hear shit, you idiot. Slow down, Wenhan! What even happened?”

Yibo rubbed the sleep out of his eyes in confusion as he heard Wenhan relay the whole incident. But the words in the end made him freeze.

“What did you say? Say that again!”

“Yixuan’s missing, you fucker! You need to get back here, you’ve wasted so much time already.”

“Fuck.” With that, he quickly ended the call and jumped out of bed. Oh fuck, Xuan-ge was missing. That wasn’t uncommon but it was also not as common. The man was the most responsible out of them all, and now with being a newlywed he would never put himself in a position that could potentially hurt others.

He murmured curse words under his breath as he flailed out in the dark for his pants and underwear. Suddenly, the light clicked on.

Zhan-ge was standing in confusion staring at him. Yibo noted he’d also put his clothes on which was good progress. He’d let Zhan-ge grab his things so they could leave as quickly as possible. But when Yibo told him this exact sentence, he paused.

The omega was standing stock still where he had been a while ago. In fact he was barely moving. Yibo had to stop and gaze closely at him.

“What’s wrong? C’mon get a move on, I need to get out of here and you’re coming with me.”

Zhan-ge shook his head, his expression now drawn and pale.

Yibo pursed his lips, “Look I know you said you can’t leave here, but this is not the sort of place for you to stay anyway. Come with me, it’s closer to the city and even if you want to go somewhere else you can, I promise I won’t stop you.” He soothed the omega with his words but it was as if they went through him.

Zhan-ge’s lips quivered as he spoke, “You need to leave quickly.”

“But-”

“He’s in danger, isn’t he? Your brother.”

Cold seeped into his veins, “What did you say?”

Zhan-ge took a shaky breath and looked up at him, “Your brother is in danger. They haven’t captured him, but he’s on the run.”

A chill went down Yibo’s spine as he stalked forward. “What the fuck do you mean? What do you know?”

Silence.

Yibo snarled and took hold of his shoulders, “ What do you know ?”

To his dismay, the omega began shaking his head and crying, “I don’t know what I know! I just know that you need to leave before they come here too!”

Yibo tightened his grip, “Why would they do that? Huh? Zhan-ge why would they come here?”

“Because I let them know,” came the whispered answer. And just like that Yibo let go.

He stumbled back in his shock, even as his hands sought out the loaded gun he kept in the drawer next to his bed. In the next moment, it was pointed at the omega.

“You let them know? You’re one of them?” He could barely recognize his own voice. Yibo felt like this was a bad dream he hadn’t really woken up from, but it was far too lucid. He was feeling too much hurt and betrayal and heartbreak for this to be a dream.

Zhan-ge looked at him through his tears with skepticism, “Oh please. What’s with the gun? Are you really going to shoot me?”

Yibo shook his gun in anger and sobbed, “You’re one of them aren’t you? What did you do huh? Let your family know you’d compromised me? Did you seduce me for your mission?”

“No! I swear I didn’t! I wasn’t even supposed to get close to you, for fuck’s sake.” Zhan-ge, no, the omega sobbed.

“Zhan-ge. Is that even your name?”

Then a horrible realization filled him. “Oh my God, it’s you. You’re Xiao Zhan, aren’t you? The elusive nephew of Xiao Haitao, the leader of the gang.”

Xiao Zhan stared back at him with an unreadable expression. The tears had stopped and he looked calmly at the gun in Yibo’s hand. “You should go.”

Yibo gritted his teeth even as he lowered the gun. Xiao Zhan had been right, it would’ve been useless and ridiculous for him to shoot the omega. That is if he could even pull the trigger on him.

Jolting himself out his thoughts, he gathered his jacket and stormed to the door, stopping beside Xiao Zhan who was still standing there, frozen.

With enough conviction in his voice, Yibo stated, “I hope I never see you again.” And with that, he fled the town, leaving his heart behind in tatters.
