Saratek is a world formed around a holy place, transformed by creatures transformed by the elements, a place bordered by the lands of beasts to the north and the devastated lands of the river people's cousins to the south. A near-angelic aristocracy of the Runanese has ruled it for many years, while ordinary people dutifully served them. Until the Thracians, lizard-like mercenaries and merchants, arrived from another world and established a colony here. Their worldview and technology will transform this place.
The characters in this story include an unlucky ambassador serving his emperor, a wise traveler eager to learn the secrets of this world, a gravely ill margravine, a fanatically devoted seneschal, the despised daughter of a provincial ruler, a cheerful mercenary, and a fearsome warrior, among many others.
This is the first chapter of my first old novel, which I wrote many years ago. No one read it, so I abandoned the project, but for now I've decided to publish the existing chapters, and perhaps, if you like it, continue it.

A little protective violence later and the merc has a new problem to deal with. What on earth to do with a towering troll woman who most definitely does not belong on the mean streets of the unforgiving city. Help? Every three years in July, the Summit of Twelve Kingdoms occurs. It's now July 2017, and 26-year-old Omega Crown Prince Shane Hollander of the Atlantic Kingdom is attending for the first time. There, his Omega catches the attention of military commander Prince Ilya Rozanov of the Northern Kingdom, most well known as the Golden Alpha. Seeing each other from afar, Shane dreams of the Alpha and researches what it could mean.
As the summit comes to a close, mercenaries paid by an unknown source abduct Shane, but he wasn't the only one taken. Why were they taken? Could Soulmate Bonds really exist? Who paid the mercenaries? Was Shane the target? Who is looking for them? Will their abductors get the opportunity to sell them to the highest bidder? These and many more questions are inside... Though some tags may give away some answers.
