    Summary

Shang Qinghua is not sad. He’s not mad or even spiteful. What happened was something unavoidable. Something that couldn’t have been stopped. It hurts, yes, but he can’t blame Shen Yuan for something that he didn’t have any control over. It just hurts. It hurts that Shen Jiu is gone and Shen Yuan is walking around in his body and nobody else seems to notice.

Or, in which Shang Qinghua becomes friends with Shen Jiu, but that doesn’t stop Shen Yuan from coming in.

    Ch - 8

What? Why are they going here? Oh, Mu Qingfang wants to know if Shen Jiu would interfere. If it had been Shen Jiu in his own body instead of Shen Yuan, he would've, but currently Shen Yuan is in control, not Shen Jiu, and Shen Yuan doesn't know about Shang Qinghua's health problems.

"W-w-we're doing f-f-i-ine." Fine-ish for two transmigrators, one that's new to it all and still hasn't adjusted and the other who deals with panic attacks from just looking at an adult.

"This shidi just wants to let Shang-shixiong know that Shen-shixiong is having a tough time. Shen-shixiong hardly remembers anything because of that qi deviation," Why was Mu Qingfang telling him this? "so Shang-shixiong should be patient. Shen-shixiong almost died that day."

    What? "H-he did?"

"Yes, he did. Shen-shixiong stopped breathing for more than a few minutes. It was a miracle that he came back to life."

He died. Shen Jiu died. Shen Jiu wasn't the one who came back to life.

Shang Qinghua couldn't breathe. It was like his head was under water again.

    "He died." Shang Qinghua whispered.

"But Shen-shixiong came back, which is a miracle in itself that we should be grateful for. Though Shen-shixiong lost his memories, more memories can still be made." Mu Qingfang continued to talk.

Lost memories? Shen Jiu was dead.

Shang Qinghua always held onto the fact that Shen Jiu, despite being gone, was somewhere in his body, it was just that Shen Yuan was in control. But he died. He left. Shen Yuan just got whatever that had remained.

    "Shang-shixiong?"

The supplier. Shang Qinghua took a slip of paper out of his robes and handed it to Mu Qingfang.

"T-the supplier's name is Wang Shili." Shang Qinghua breathed out, his voice faint to even him. "I-I-I already set up... a meeting. I-it's on the slip."

Mu Qingfang looked down at the slip of paper before looking up at Shang Qinghua.

"Many thanks, Shang-shixiong. May this shidi ask if-"

"I-I need to go." Shang Qinghua needs to go. He needs to leave. He needs to get back to his room. His peak.

    "Of course-"

Shang Qinghua turned around and walked towards the Rainbow Bridge. It was quiet. Or maybe he just wasn't listening right.

The walk was long. Or maybe it was short.

All Shang Qinghua could think about is what Mu Qingfang said. Shen Jiu stopped breathing for more than a few minutes.

What came back wasn't Shen Jiu.

Maybe Shen Jiu was still there in his body just like how Shang Qinghua though all this time.

    But he stopped breathing.

Shang Qinghua came to a realization that he probably knew all along. Shen Jiu was dead and he wasn't coming back.

At some point in time Shang Qinghua made it back to his office. Shang Qinghua was sitting solemnly behind his desk.

Shen Jiu was still dead - not just gone.

Shen Jiu used to sit across him while Shang Qinghua did his work.

    Shen Jiu wasn't coming back.

Shang Qinghua denied it for so long and what did it get him?

    Nothing.

"You heard Qinghua. Don't bother with these... meetings. We'll ask for you. And remember using that simple brain of yours to keep your side of the deal." Shen Jiu turned sharply away and before calmly walking away, leaving Mobei-jun in the dust. Shen Jiu looked so cool doing that. His hair literally flipped in a way that was reminiscent of a girl flipping her hair at a person. Shen Jiu wouldn't be pleased at being compared to that.

Shang Qinghua smiled before quickly running after him.

He paused for a bit before looking back at Mobei-jun who looked... he doesn't know but something like shock? Confusion? Whatever, Shang Qinghua doesn't have time to unpack whatever that was.

Shang Qinghua caught up with Shen Jiu who had slowed down for him to catch up.

    "What was that?"

"Nothing that Shang-shidi needs to concern himself about."

Shang Qinghua tilted his head and hummed. Shen Jiu wasn't really wrong. Shang Qinghua doesn't really think he wants to know what happened. "Okay."

Shang Qinghua looked at the path they were taking. The frost and ice had long receded, leaving behind the lush trees and blooming flowers. Shang Qinghua smiles at the pretty sight.

"JiuJiu, do you think we can go on a mission together?" Shang Qinghua was suddenly stricken by wander lust. He doesn't know if it was because of the pretty flowers or the pretty frost, but he wanted to see more of the world. He felt the urge to just leave and explore the world he had written into existence. With Shen Jiu. The only way they'd be able to do that is if they go on a mission together, which needs Shen Jiu threatening Yue Qingyuan into letting them go.

Shen Jiu glanced at him and his hopeful expression before conceding. "Of course."

    "Great!"

Shang Qinghua is content with life.
