Frodo's smile faded once he knew Sam could no longer see him. For one moment he thought of leaping overboard, but alas, he was no great swimmer.
His heart was breaking into a million pieces, but he knew he had to do this. He had to choose life.

Sam stood at the railing looking out at the harbor as it drew closer and closer. He knew he was seeing the same thing Frodo had seen for the first time.
He searched the dock, half afraid that Frodo was already gone, but then he saw the small, upright figure.
Frodo.
