Chapter Text

Monty POV:

“There’s no way I’m gonna lose!”

My boyfriend gripped his purple bowling ball with both hands, his fingertips turning white. I was surprised he hadn’t chucked it at the purple rabbit bot yet.

The pizzaplex’s mechanic: Tae, had asked us to help test the bowling code for the Bonnie animatronic and it had somehow spiraled into this. Bonnie and his animatronic had now gotten into some sort of bowling bet.

“Of course not! But even if you do, you will always be our superstar!”

Freddy, my other boyfriend, reached behind Bonnie to ruffle his hair. The purple haired boy leaned into his touch and gave him a stubborn shit-eating grin.

“What? You think I won’t win?”

“No, nothing like that! It’s just…”

Freddy gestured towards where the Bonnie bot was “preparing” for the competition.

The animatronic itself was shut down with the back of its head hooked up with dozens of wires leading into some sort of modified laptop. Tae sat cross legged on the couch behind it, a determined fire in his eyes as he furiously typed on the device. He also had an open duffel bag to his side, positioned so that only he could see what was inside. He looked slightly intimidating as his hands flew across the keyboard, completely in the zone.

Despite the pang of anxiety that hit my chest once I saw how serious Tae was about this competition, I snorted at the sight of the mechanic before turning to Bonnie.

“That piece of scrap’s got nothin’ on ya Cher. You’ve been playing yer whole life and that thing over there’s never even been inside a bowling alley before today! I mean, that bot’s so new, it doesn’t even have voice lines yet! You can do this!”

That seemed to lighten my boyfriend’s mood, he spun the ball between his palms with practiced ease.

“Yeah yeah, you’re right, Monts. No amount of fancy coding can beat raw skill!”

To show off, he tossed his ball down an adjacent lane, scoring a perfect strike.

“Yessss!”

He pumped his fist in the air and I couldn’t help but smile at how excited he looked.

“I take it that you guys are ready?”

Tae was suddenly standing behind me with his laptop tucked underneath his arm and the duffle bag slung around his shoulders. Before I could answer, Bonnie pushed past me.

“Duh! I’ve been ready to kick that rabbit’s metal ass all day!”

He really was adorable, all riled up like this.

Tae rolled his eyes, dragging a hand through his messy blue and pink hair.

“Pshhh! Sure, we’ll see about that”

He unzipped the bag, revealing a larger than average black bowling ball. He held it easily in one hand, as if it weighed no more than a beachball. He tossed it towards the purple animatronic with a straight overhand shot and the robot jerked awake in a split second once the ball came near him, catching it with a deafening clang.

“Okay okay, spatial awareness is working properly…”

He mumbled to himself as he pulled out the laptop, typing a few more things into it as I gaped at him in shock.

“Uh, Tae? How much does that thing weigh?”

“Hmmm, the bot? Like around two tons. The ball? About 55 pounds. Why?”

Over the past few months of working with him, I’ve noticed that Tae had a strange level of strength, but only in his right arm. Almost as if he had hydraulic pumps working where his arm should be…

Hm, probably best not to think about it that much.

Bonnie POV:

I was practically seething. The Bonnie animatronic had gotten a perfect strike every single turn. I had a similar score, but there was a single spare putting me behind.

Freddy had given me a kiss right before my fifth frame, distracting me from the game and causing me to get a seven-ten split. Luckily, I knew how to defeat the trickiest placement of the game after years and years of bored nights in my mom’s bowling alley, escaping with a spare.

“I am so sorry Bonbon! I did not mean for that to happe-”

He frantically waved his hands out in front of him in apology and I rested my forehead onto the ball in my hands so that I wouldn’t be able to see him.

“Freddy, love of my life, please shut the fuck up.”

He clammed up the second the words left my mouth, biting his lower lip and interlocking arms with Monty. I almost felt bad for a second, but if my boyfriend kept on being cute, there was no way I would win this game.

I sat down with my head still on the ball as the animatronic got up with a hiss of machinery to complete its frame.

Tae watched the scene unfold with a slight smirk on his face. He was sitting cross-legged on the couch again, laptop open in front of him and leaning onto a pillow.

I wanted to break his knees.

Just then, I heard a booming laugh come from somewhere near the entrance. Huh, it sounded like Monty but my boyfriend was sitting here, right next to me…

A thud pulled me out of my thoughts. The rabbit animatronic had dropped its bowling ball when it whipped around to see who was at the door. If it had any voice lines, I’m pretty sure it would’ve screamed when it saw the black ball slowly roll over into the gutter lane.

Tae shot up from his previously relaxed pose, eyes widening at the scoreboard.

I turned around to see both the alligator and bear animatronics standing by the glass doors. The alligator had its head thrown back and was still laughing. The bear stood next to the gator, looking much more calm, maybe even slightly annoyed at the gator.

The mechanic looked gobsmacked, head whipping from his modified laptop to the bunny, gripping the screen and holding it close to his face.

The animatronic rabbit waved one of its arms, wordlessly inviting the other robots to sit down with us. I could hear the fans inside of the machine speed up as the alligator and bear approached our lane.

Was the robot… blushing ?

“No, no, no, no, no, NO, NO, NO! ”

Tae pounded his fingertips into the keys of his laptop as the gator animatronic picked up the bunny, spinning it around.

“Hey Cher!”

The gator spoke using Monty’s voice, startling me. It was much more mechanical sounding than the real thing, but it still sounded like I was listening to my boyfriend flirt with someone other than me or Freddy.

Since the rabbit bot still didn’t have a voice, it just pulled its ears over its face, the fans whirring wildly.

“Dunno why we didn’t come sooner,”

The gator made eye contact with me, much to Monty’s displeasure.

“Two bunnies are definitely better than one!”

Monty hastily stood up, only to be tugged back down by Freddy.

“Destroying a robot is not going to help anyone, Montgomery.”

He sat down with a huff and crossed his arms, glaring daggers into the metal backing of the robot.

Finally looking up from the computer, Tae shouted at the new animatronics, a little bit desperately.

“You two need to leave. Like, right now!”

I looked at the frazzled mechanic, feeling a wicked grin spread across my face.

Oh ho, how the tables turn my friend.

Freddy POV:

Right after Tae instructed the robots to leave, my boyfriend stood up, leisurely rotating the bowling ball between his palms using his thumbs.

“Tae, I think the bots should stay.”

The pink haired mechanic snapped his head towards Bonnie, giving him a glare.

“I mean, I have my emotional support. I think your Bonnie should have the same,”

Bonnie gestured towards me and Montgomery.

“Y’know, It’s only fair~.”

I couldn’t believe it. The Bonnie Kim, known board game cheater and pickpocket, preaching about fairness.

It worked on Tae though, he hung his head in resignation as he motioned for this bots to sit on the ground..

“Fiiiiine, they can stay.”

Bonnie’s grin widened, clasping his ball with a renewed determination.

After that, the Bonnie bot rolled another gutter ball, and another, and another. The gator and bear animatronics rubbed its back after every frame with metal and plastic clanks. It wasn’t helping though, the opposite actually. At every touch, the rabbit’s fans clicked into higher and higher gear until I was sure it was going to break down.

Needless to say, our Bonnie won by a landslide.

“Ha! Nice try Tae, might need to work on that bot a bit more!”

My boyfriend ribbed at the mechanic who had a stoic frown on his face, glaring at his failed animatronic. Bonnie was sitting in Montgomery’s arms, having been swept off his feet the second after his final strike.

“It would’ve won if those other bots weren’t there to mess with it!”

He huffed and nudged the two-ton animatronic that was now on the floor. Despite it losing (by a lot), the other robots had given it some sort of mechanical kiss on the cheek, finally making it collapse onto the wooden floor.

“Mhm, sureeee.”

Montgomery shifted Bonnie in his arms to lean over and ruffle Tae’s hair with a smirk on his face.

“I’m serious! I never programmed those bots to be in love like that! They must’ve learned from watching you three.”

He smacked away my boyfriend's hand, closing his laptop with a sigh.

“Anyways, I better get back to work on that code… again. I’ll see you guys around.”

With that, he left the bowling alley, both my boyfriends faces twisted into hilarious expressions that I will never forget.

“Uh- We.. We don’t act like that right? Ah mean, we aren’t that pathetic are we Che- Bonnie?”

I stifled a laugh when Montgomery corrected himself away from the pet name.

“Nooo, no, we are way better than those… things… right, Fred?”

I drank in the sight of Bonnie in Montgomery’s arms, one of his arms wrapped around the taller one’s neck and the other toying with his locs. As I burst into laughter, my boyfriends seemed to realize their position. They sprang apart, Montgomery almost dropping the other because of how quickly he set him down.

“No, we really aren’t”

I wiped a tear from my eye, still doubled over in laughter.
