Chapter Text
Finally, after years of studies and frustrating jobs, Rui was finally commissioned to be part of the team of biologists who would go into a recently discovered island.
Rui had graduated from university at a very young age. He was known as something of a prodigy in college. He came out with his title at 22 and went straight to rookie practice. Until now he had only been given the occasional boring job where he would do nothing but paperwork.
But a month ago, he received the application for his first real job. He would make an expedition for a census within the great Iwotemsh Island. Recently accidentally discovered by a fishing boat.
Everything would be perfect for his first job if his "teammates" weren't so... Oh come on, a complete pain in the ass.
There was this Marie, who in his opinion was the best of all, even with her little flaws. She was a cartographer who would dedicate herself to drawing the entire terrain of the Island. She was... quite a character. She's pretty clumsy, Rui can't judge her for it but she a lot of times really does things that she could kill them all. She is kind, although she is afraid of animals because she does not usually interact with many, according to her own words; for a biologist that's the complete opposite of all natural order, but he still appreciated Marie's attempts to be friends with the whole team.
There was also this other older man, Nikolay, who Rui personally had no idea why he came. He's supposed to, as he was told, that this guy was going to be recording every action the team did during their time on the island, but isn't that useless? I mean, he and Marie were already in charge of creating reports of what they find deeper. He was a really weird man, he always seems to have his guard up and be nervous, yet it's really easy to surprise him.
And to end with the worst of all, the bodyguard Alfons, this man was a brazen and shameless animal, completely controlled by two impulses: fight and desire. Rui had lost count of how many times he had tried to flirt with Marie during the entire boat trip. He really found it disgusting how they had let this guy in to protect them. He also seemed to have a peanut brain, because whenever the slightest problem arose until now he tried to fix it by force... Without a doubt an animal in the base of his instincts.
If Rui concentrated only on the peaceful ocean in front of him, he could finally forget about the strange group that accompanied him. The ship they were on was really big, enough to almost be a full cargo ship. It is assumed that after having been on the ship for two full days, today the research team would finally arrive at Iwotemsh Island.
Rui couldn't be more excited, this is his dream. Since he was a child he have always loved life, animals, plants and how curious all that was.
Having a completely uncharted island all to himself was almost unimaginable.
And now he's here, he can't wait to see what awaits him on the island.
----------------------------------
It is not long before he sees the great mound of earth in the distance. As the ship's managers said, they arrived on the planned day and began to unload the things on the coast.
Ahh, the sand, Rui loved how he felt under his feet. He was wearing a tropical suit, with a hat to cover himself from the sun. He like that he almost looked like a tourist on some beach, fufu.
The rest of the team puts things down, well, almost everyone did. Marie was crying because she seemed to have broken something, while Nikolay was trying to calm her down. Only the sailors and Alfons were loading the equipment for the camp.
Rui couldn't do much here, he was a biologist and although his strength wouldn't be as low as Nikolay's or Marie's, he didn't think he would be of much help.
So he thought he could find a good place to camp while they all went downstairs.
He walked over to the duo noise of Marie and Nikolay. "Huh, guys?" He caught the attention of both of them who seemed very into his world. "I think I'll go ahead to find a good place to camp, if we wait until everything goes down to do it, it will be dark, don't you think?"
"What a good idea, Rui!" Marie instantly blurted out that she suddenly stopped crying. "Do you want help with that?"
"Don't worry, my specialty may not be terrain like you but I can guide myself, fufu." Without waiting for an answer, he walked away from both of them. He honestly wanted to spend some of his time alone, admiring what would soon be a chest full of biological treasures for sure.
---------------------
As he walked through the jungle, Rui still hadn't come across any animals. It was weird, animals like parrots and monkeys prefer to live in a humid tropical, just like this one, full of big trees for their homes.
He pointed his head everywhere, but so far he had only found different types of plants and fruit trees. He would have to work with whatever there is... It's not that he doesn't like plants, but he hoped to at least run into some birds.
He began to pick fruit, he thought so, he didn't see animals nearby, it could be because of the food, maybe something was wrong with it and that's why the animals didn't live in these areas?
He scooped up as much as he could with his arms, maybe he was taking too much, but he wanted to get a good sampling as soon as they set up his gear at camp.
Quickly a noise took him out of his thoughts and among so much fruit in his hands it was difficult not to drop any. From the top of the trees, Rui heard some leaves moving quickly from a banana tree. Could this be the first animal Rui would see?
He quickly perked up, began to follow his eyes and ears as much as he could and...
AHA! That sound again, this time from another tree close to the previous one. So it definitely couldn't be an abiotic being, it had to be some kind of organism! Considering there was no wind either.
Rui approached this new tree, he hoped that up close he could see what it was. He looked for a while, he couldn't see anything, he thought for a moment that the animal might have changed trees something until-
A hand reached up from one of the branches.
A hand. Human.
"What the hell-!?" He had to use all of his willpower not to drop the fruit. After his shout, the hand went back into hiding.
It would be an understatement to say that this scared the hell out of him. They had not been informed of any tribes living on the island!
This was strange for sure, but Rui couldn't leave until he confirmed his suspicions. He had to see the human for himself.
Luckily he didn't have to wait for that.
From that same tree, holding a liana, something yellow lowered until it was almost at Rui's height. And it wasn't until he stopped that he got a good look at the staggering figure of him just inches from him.
He was a boy, a young man who, together with a monkey on his shoulder, ate a banana while holding on to a vine.
...
WAS A WHAT -?
"AH! Ahhhh! Ah? Ah!" He didn't even know if what he was trying to say was a scream or the purest sense of confusion, but if something was clear to him it was that now he DID throw that fruit.
The eyes of the strangely dressed yellow boy shone, Rui could not yet notice any of this, but the boy looked even more astonished than the biologist (although in Rui's case, it would be more of a shock along with an incredible surprise). and that of the unknown-boy-yellow would be a joy in its maximum splendor).
"Tsukasa!" The boy spoke.
"Eh?" Rui still couldn't understand anything, hearing the young man say something only made him more agitated.
"Tsu-ka-sa" The other boy tried to explain himself, believing that Rui did not understand him, with each syllable he hit his chest once.
"Tsu- Tsukasa...?" Rui tried to understand, maybe it wouldn't be so difficult if your mind wasn't moving at 5 fps.
"Tsukasa, Tsukasa!"
The boy rejoiced and the monkey next to him spoke in celebration as well.
And, by magic, both disappeared. They climbed the vine and then they could not be seen anymore.
...
..
.
"What just happened again?" he thought.
