Chapter Text
“Time’s up! Please, Turn in what you have and have an amazing summer!” exclaimed a loud voice that belonged to Kyojiiro Rengoku, Kimetsu University's ancient history teacher. Students began to file into lines as they walked down the classroom stairs to turn in their final test for the semester. As students started to turn in their tests, some students gave their regards to their teacher while some stayed and asked what he was planning to do over the summer. “Mr. Rengoku! Is it true?” “Hm? Is what true?” “That you're going on another expedition this summer,” asked a young girl in red, folding her arms along with another girl with brown hair, waiting for the answer.
It’s common knowledge at Kimetsu University that every year Rengoku tends to go on an expedition and always comes back to relay his travels and several stories to his class for that semester. He also likes to bring students from Kimetsu Senior High, the sister school, on the trips as a learning experience. Then again some of the other teachers have done that also. “ OF COURSE! I plan on going on another one. I sent off my letter to the resident ruler some time ago and now I’m just waiting for the approval letter and details from President Kagaya!” exclaimed Rengoku.
“Do you know where you’re going this time” “ HaHa! Now that is a surprise for next semester's class and I’m sure that those who have signed up for Ancient History II will be able to hear about them ``'' Aw, not just one hint Teach,” pleaded a young African-American boy in yellow. “No hints I’m afraid. Now run along I need to get these graded so some of the students can know if they graduate or not,” he said, gently nudging his students out of the classroom. With a chorus of various goodbyes, best wishes for a good summer, and safe travels, the remaining students went on their way leaving Rengoku alone in his classroom.
“Finally, a moment of peace. Now let's get these tests graded and into the grade book before something comes up” he thought as he sat at his desk.
It didn’t take long for him to finish grading and once he was done the door to the classroom busted open. “ KYOJIRO! What are you still doing here? It’s summer vacation! Time for relaxation in a flashy way!” exclaimed a loud and eccentric voice. Rengoku looked up from his desk and saw his friend, the university’s art teacher, and the man that gained respect and a fraction of jealousy from the male students for having 3 wives Tengen Uzui. “Tengen, my friend, what brings you here?” “I’m here to invite you out of this boring classroom and come with me to the end-of-the-semester party that Mitsuri is having in the teacher’s lounge,” he said. Rengoku pondered this for a short while before deciding. “Of course, I just finished grading the last remaining tests so I’m free as of right now” “Excellent! Let’s go, Kyojiro,” Tengen said as he and Rengoku made their way to the teacher’s lounge.
Upon entering the teacher’s lounge, Kyojiro and Tengen were greeted by the sight of their colleagues celebrating another successful semester.
“Hey, it looks like Tengen managed to drag Kyo out of his classroom this time,” said Kanae Kocho, the biology professor. “ HAHA , he didn’t necessarily “drag” me out of my classroom, he just caught me just as I was finishing my grading for the semester,” Kyojiro said as he grabbed a cup of fruit punch. “Kyo, my friend you usually spend the remainder of the day grading, and usually Mitsuri or me has to force you out of a classroom or your office,” Tengen said sitting next to his wives Suma, Hinatsuru, and Makio. “Oh, ignore him Kyojiro you are just a dedicated professor. I mean no one fails your classes,” said Mitsuri, a former student of Kimetsu University turned English teacher.
“Speaking of staying in their offices, where are Sanemi and Obanai” “Oh, they had some students who had to take make-up exams because of various reasons, but they did say that they would swing by once they are done,” said Gyomei, the civics professor. “And what of Giyu?” “Oh, he and Shinobu should be on their way here, after all, they both work in the same field and have to fill out the same reports and send them off,” Hina said.
The end of the semester party actually began once the missing people had turned up and the topic of summer plans had arisen. Tengen has plans to go to a resort in Okinawa with Hina, Makio, and Suma claiming it to be a “flashy” occasion with some tourist plans made by the girls. Giyu, surprisingly, had plans to travel with Shinobu, Kanae, and their younger sisters, Aoi and Kanao. Obanai and Mitsuri planned to visit family during the break. Gyomei planned on visiting some ruins and temples. And Sanemi planned on visiting his family while manning their family dojo with his younger brother, Genya.
“Oh, that’s right! You’re going on another expedition right Kyo,” Mitsuri exclaimed as she looked at Kyojiro. “That’s right, this time I’ll be going to Amberglow Village to study the culture there,” he nodded. “Hm, Amberglow, oh the village that’s part of the Sun Clan. Oh, how exciting!” “Yeah, until you realize that the village also is the home to dragons” “Quit being a baby! It sounds cool you get to be up close and personal with dragons,” Makio said. “Just don’t come back as dragon chow. I still want a rematch when you get back, Rengoku!” Sanemi said. “Also, have you picked who you were taking on the trip” “Indeed, I have. Young Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira ``'' Good luck with those three Rengoku. From experience, those three are close-knit friends, but they can cause trouble in their own right,” Giyu said. “You’re just saying that Giyu. Those boys are sweethearts and they’re not even in college yet ``'' Have you gotten word from Mr. or Mrs. Ubuyashiki,” Tengen asked.
After his question, the door to the lounge opened, and stood Kagaya Ubuyashiki. “Ah, Kyojiro, just the man I was looking for” “Mr. Ubuyashiki '' Kyojiro acknowledged, bowing his head slightly as the others followed. “I was afraid that you had gone off already before I could give you this,” he said, holding up an envelope. “Is that what I think it is?” “Indeed it is. Now Kyojiro, I know you want to know whether or not you are permitted to go to your requested fantasy area. Well, there is some good news. The regnant queen of Amberglow Village has sent her response on behalf of the Emperor and Empress,” Kagaya said, handing Kyojiro a sealed letter. Kyojiro took the letter out of his hand and looked at it. The envelope was a light magenta color with a dark magenta seal. “Well, what are you waiting for? Open it!” exclaimed Tengen. He slowly opened the letter and read it out loud.
Dear Kyojiro Rengoku,
I, and the rest of my kingdom and court, am extremely flattered that a well-known researcher and teacher such as yourself has shown a great interest in learning about our culture. At first, I was hesitant to let you and your other comrades into our village, but after discussing it with the current Emperor and Empress, I have decided to let you all stay with us. You and your comrades will be under the protection of the Tatsuha clan during your stay. You all will be provided with housing within the village. We look forward to meeting you and your comrades and showing you the culture of our village. And on behalf of the Amberglow village and court, we welcome you to Amberglow and we hope that your time here will be full of wonderful memories as well as an enriching experience.
-Queen Mayon of Amberglow Village
“Congratulations, Kyojiro. I hope this expedition will be one to remember.” “Thank you very much sir” “Now, I’ll leave the preparations to you and the students you picked, and don’t worry about the cost as always the university will finance the trip” “Thank you once again, sir,” he said as he bowed. “No need to bow. I’ll leave you all to your celebration as I have a prior engagement with my family. See you all next semester,” Kagaya said, leaving a stunned group behind.
As Kyojiro tried to collect his thoughts about what had happened, Tengen placed his arm around Kyojiro. “
CONGRATULATIONS
! Kyo you got your wish” “I meant what I said earlier about the dragon chow” “You’ll do great out there, just be careful,” said Kanae. “Thank you for the kind words, everyone! If you’ll excuse me, I have to make some preparations,” Kyojiro said as he gathered his things and made his way home.
