"I've caught you, KID."
The words made both Hattori and Kudou freeze, pausing in the rooftop doorway. Hakuba had clamped a metal handcuff around KID's wrist, holding the other cuff in his own hand.
"So you have." KID replied, not sounding nearly as concerned as a handcuffed thief should. "What do you plan to do with me?"
"I plan to read you your rights." Hakuba told him, bringing out a piece of paper.
Kudou and Hattori looked at each other then back at Hakuba, waiting to see what would happen instead of making their presence known.
"Kaitou KID." Hakuba began, voice grave. "You have the right to remain with me for the rest of our lives, through the good and the bad, sickness and health...should you so wish."
With those words, he dropped the handcuff he was still holding, getting down on one knee and holding up a box.
Kudou and Hattori stared in dumbfounded shock.
"Well since I've been handcuffed, it seems I have no choice other than to go with you to the rest of our life together." KID breathed after a moment, taking the ring (which had such a large jewel on it, Kudou and Hattori could easily see it from where they stood) and slipping it on his finger.
Hakuba smiled a smile neither of the other two detectives had ever seen before. It was warm, filled with happiness and love. Standing back up, Hakuba brought KID close to him, kissing him on the lips.
"Oh hell no, I did not sign up ta see this." Hattori groaned. "I knew that bastard was gonna try ta get engaged before us."
Hakuba and KID must have heard him, because they abruptly broke apart, spinning around to face them.
"Good evening." Kudou deadpanned.
Much to their startlement, KID grinned at them, practically skipping over to where they stood.
"Meitantei! Tantei-han! I just got engaged!" He exclaimed excitedly showing them the ring.
"This is a joke, right?" Hattori crossed his arms.
"It is not." Hakuba walked over to them, wrapping his arms around KID's middle. KID leaned back into the hold, smiling up at him. "We are happily engaged."
"Yer a detective!" Hattori sputtered, speaking Kudou's silent thoughts. "Ya can't marry a thief!"
Hakuba pressed a kiss to KID's neck before giving them an unsettling smile. "I have joined the other side now." He said ominously.
Hattori and Kudou stared at him for a moment, before:
"Hakuba you traitor! I'm telling the taskforce you're marrying KID!" Kudou cried, eyes wide.
"No you're not." KID told him, nuzzling Hakuba's neck.
"What's gonna stop us?" Hattori kept his arms crossed.
"If you tell the taskforce Tantei-san and I are engaged..." KID trailed off for a moment, letting their imaginations run wild for a few seconds. "I will tell Meitantei's parents you're dating. Yukiko-san will ceaselessly hound you for a wedding date and grandchildren."
Hattori's eyes widened, and he put a protective arm around Kudou. "Ya wouldn't.”
"Only if you tell the taskforce about my engagement ~" KID sang. "Besides, if word got out that all of us are in relationships, the fans will riot."
"...True." Kudou admitted. "We'll remain silent if you will."
"Oh I will ~" KID said, in a way that made Hattori and Kudou do a double take.
"So are ya also gonna be engaged as yer civilian self or are ya just engaged as KID?" Hattori asked, some part of him wondering how they got here. It had just been the usual heist until now -
KID's eyes widened and he turned to look at Hakuba.
"You are marrying both parts of me, right?" He said, sounding very concerned.
"Of course." Hakuba laid a hand on KID's cheek. "You'll get your other proposal tomorrow."
"I have to wait until tomorrow?" KID whined, before another thought seemed to occur to him and he straightened. "Do I get two rings then?"
"Love, you can have as many rings as you want -" Hakuba breathed, leaning in -
"Oi, can't ya do that somewhere else?!" Hattori sputtered.
KID gave an indignant huff, turning to glare at them. "It's my heist. You're the ones that decided to come."
"But -" Kudou began, then paused, considering. "Well. He does have a point."
"What?!" Hattori demanded, staring at Kudou with wide eyes.
"And I am not paid to be here." Kudou shook his head. "Therefore, I am leaving."
"Oooh." Hattori said, realization flashing in his eyes. "I am going with ya."
"You know, you should get engaged too!" KID called after them as they left the rooftop. "We could form a club!"
Neither Hattori nor Kudou dignified that comment with a response.
