The ship's gym was bustling with activity, the sound of feet pattering against the floor, fists hitting their targets and the occasional laughter between sparring partners.
The ship had taken on quite a number of individuals, all of whom resolved to fight together against Ziggy's forces. Everyone was determined to enhance their skills, so it was no surprise there were days like this where the training area was lively. Most of them popped in for a couple hours each day, but there were some diehards like Homura and Shiki that seemed to live here between meals.
Lo and behold, Weisz's eyes snapped to where the gravity boy himself was seemingly warming up with a few laps. Not on the designated track of course - rather, using his ether gear to scale the walls. Typical. Weisz rolled his eyes and smiled.
He admired Shiki's determination, and it was inspiration enough to keep training himself, even though he could rely quite a bit on the Arsenal suit to enhance his abilities. He knew he could never match Shiki in his dreams, but he wanted to at least keep up with him to the best of his abilities.
He continued to lift weights as he watched Shiki accelerate around the gym.
Though, as time passed he noticed his captain's energy start to dwindle exponentially. Which of course, could be chalked up to fatigue, however he hadn't been at it for long and Shiki was known more than anything for his resilience and seemingly never ending stamina which only became stronger over time.
Weisz couldn't help but worry a tad, though he knew by now Shiki could take care of himself. The blonde shook his head and continued his set, trying not to overthink it.
Once he finished, he put the weights back in their place and looked over at Shiki, who had returned to the ground. He had his hands on his hips trying to catch his breath, before taking a step forward - though, his step was anything but stable. He wobbled and Weisz's eyes shot open wide as his captain lost his balance. The blonde rushed to catch him, just as he'd begun to fall.
"Hey, are you alright?" The words fell from his mouth before he could think them.
"I'm a bit dizzy," Shiki closed his eyes, standing with Weisz's help. "But gimme a few minutes and I'll be fine."
Bullshit. Weisz frowned. Up close, he noticed how pale Shiki's skin was, and how fatigued he really looked. In fact, he was also a bit pale during their meal earlier. He raised his hand and placed it on Shiki's forehead. Burning hot.
"Few minutes, my ass" Weisz clicked his tongue. "You're sick, and you ought to rest more than that."
"I'll be fine."
"No way," Weisz grabbed his arm as he tried to walk away. "Go lie down and let yourself get better."
"Let go."
"Not a chance."
"That's an order," Shiki scowled, frustrated.
Knowing words weren't going to get him anywhere with Shiki's hotheadedness, he smirked, "when have I ever been one to follow orders?"
Probably the only time he could pull the wool out from under Shiki, he quickly scooped him up in his arms and made a beeline for the exit. Shiki wiggled around and resisted but gave it a rest once they were halfway down the corridor to the infirmary. Weisz figured he probably tired himself out.
The blonde sighed, "You're a real idiot, you know that?"
He was half talking to Shiki, and half to himself. He should have noticed sooner - or at least asked him how he was doing. Shiki was certainly careless at times, and he felt it his duty to make up for his reckless decisions. In a way, he failed.
Shiki stared off into the distance, his face squished into a pout, "I would've been fine."
"You nearly passed out."
"All I needed was a break. I can keep going, I need to keep training."
"You've trained every day this week, it will be okay if you take a day or two to recover."
"Ziggy and his army aren't going to wait for me to get better to make a move," eyes glossed over and words steeped in vulnerability. Weisz stopped in his tracks and looked Shiki in the eyes.
"And in this state, would you really be able to handle it? Passing out on the battlefield and getting yourself hurt isn't going to help anyone."
Shiki averted his eyes, lips quivering, "I know you're right, but-"
The blonde kissed him on the forehead and smiled, "Everything will be fine. Just let yourself take a day or so to rest. Please."
Shiki nodded with some hesitation, and Weisz continued down the hall and entered the infirmary. It seemed it was vacant for now, so he laid Shiki onto one of the beds lining the far wall, pulling a blanket over him.
The comfort had his eyes grow tired, flickering to stay open and watch as Weisz grabbed a bottle of water and a wet cloth from the sink across the room. He cracked open the lid of the bottle and offered it to Shiki.
"Thank you, Weisz," he sheepishly whispered, blushing as he took a small sip. "For being my voice of reason."
Weisz beamed, pulling up a chair to sit beside him. "Anything for you, captain."
"Aren't you going to go back?"
"And leave you alone? Never."
Shiki pulled the blanket up over his face, hiding his bashful expression. Weisz felt his heart pang. Shit. He's too cute.
He cleared his throat, and placed his hand gently on Shiki's, "Alright, now get some rest. If anything major happens I'll make sure to wake you, so relax and try not to worry."
Shiki smiled sweetly and obliged, letting his eyes slowly close. Within minutes he was out like a light, and Weisz brushed the hair out of his face to give him one more soft kiss.
"Sweet dreams, Gravity Boy."
