Chapter Text
Atsushi could immediately tell something was off when he woke up coughing with an almost suffocating burning feeling in his lungs as if he’d just ran a marathon. Was he sick? He felt fine yesterday but maybe he had caught a cold and hadn’t noticed it. It was quite chilly yesterday after all, God he knew he should’ve worn a scarf.
After a few seconds, he manages to get his coughing under control and proceeds to take a few slow breaths trying not to start coughing again, his lungs aching in his chest.
He looked around the room, and suddenly felt even more disoriented.
It was bigger, well he usually slept in a closet after all but this was still pretty spacious in comparison, a desk in one of the corners with some documents scattered across with an unfinished cup of tea sitting there.
Did he get kidnapped? Was this a dream? He pinched himself hoping to wake up but ended up dumbfounded when he stayed exactly where he was and slightly pushed his upper body up with his elbows. He did not recognize this place at all and waking up in a place other than the one he fell asleep in can only be a bad sign.
He was startled by a phone alarm on his right, his heart almost leaping out of his chest at the sudden loud noise. He quickly grabbed it and attempted to turn the alarm off.
Except it wasn’t his phone, it was a black flip phone different from his. Who even used those anymore?! He struggled with the buttons on it for a few moments, pressing all of them before eventually managing to turn the alarm off making the room once again finally quiet.
He decided to go through the phone which barely had any apps on it, he also went through the contacts but none of the numbers had names attached to them except one, Gin.
That sounded familiar, wasn’t that the name of Akutagawa’s sister? Was this Akutagawa’s phone? The few times he saw Akutagawa use his phone it did look similar to this one, if not the exact same.
Did the port mafia decide to kidnap him? Honestly, he shouldn’t be that surprised since they’ve tried to do it once before but that probably wasn’t the case, he wasn’t tied up or anything and he woke up in a bedroom of all places if he truly had gotten kidnapped they would’ve probably kept him in a basement somewhere. Far away from light. And why would Akutagawa’s phone be left there, isn’t it careless to leave a way of contacting people near the person you’ve kidnapped?
He stood up from the bed and walked into a hallway only illuminated by the morning sun peeking through a nearby window.
He opened the first door he saw and it turned out to be a bathroom but when he was about to close the door again he locked eyes with himself in the mirror.
Grey eyes that originally weren’t his stared back at him in the reflection, he slowly ran his hand through the dark black hair with white ends that almost reached his shoulders, a vampiric-looking black coat was covering said shoulders making him look more intimidating than his frail figure would be without it.
This had to be some elaborate joke or prank because there was no way he woke up in his body out of all people it didn’t make any sense but he had to accept the fact that this was in fact reality and not some illusion. Or maybe he was hallucinating! Had he been drugged? Blinking quickly or pinching his face didn’t do anything. Splashing water on his face did not do anything to change the reflection in the mirror.
Okay, then this had to be the work of an ability, okay alright that was fine. There was nothing to be worried about! Dazai could fix it, he would fix it. He didn’t have any other choice.
He tried to text Dazai, but his messages didn’t go through. Was he blocked on this number? Really? Just his luck.
If he was in a Akutagawas body then said person is probably in his right now. Let’s pray that he doesn’t do anything that’ll ruin Atsushi’s life.
Atsushi went back to the room he first awoke in and picked up the phone he left on the floor before quickly skimming through the contacts once again trying to find himself there, the other hadn’t bothered to save him as contact even though he had given him his number before purely for professional reasons though. Something about "making collaboration easier." Dazai’s words not his.
He typed his numbers in and waited for him to pick up, after a long 30-second wait the automated message said "Atsushi is busy at the moment! Please call later" he sighed and left a voicemail telling Akutagawa to call him back, why wasn't he answering? Please don’t tell him that something happend, what if Akutagawa is not in his body what then? What if Atsushi got transported to some alternate universe where he’s Akutagawa? What if-
He got pulled out of his thoughts by a knock on the door which made his heart skip a beat, oh God, did Akutayawa not live alone? Or maybe someone broke in. Both options sounded equally as mortifying.
"Are you okay? you’ve been in here for a while" He heard a feminine voice he didn’t recognize ask on the other side of the door. Probably his sister right? Atsushi doesn’t remember ever hearing her voice, what if it was someone else, what if Akutagawa had a girlfriend? Lord.
"I’m fine!" He said it a bit too quick apparently because it bought on a small coughing fit. He just hoped his impression was good enough for her to be convinced, it was unlikely that she would conclude that it wasn't him that quickly, but even if she did, she wouldn’t kill him… probably. He was in her brother’s body after all.
”I’ll get going, you should hurry up or you’ll be late to work," she said behind the door before he heard her walk away apparently not expecting an answer from him, he sighed in relief glad to not have gotten caught.
Should he go to work in that state? He was pretty sure the mafia wouldn’t tolerate the sudden unexplained absence of their Black-Fanged Hellhound, would they fire him? Murder him? Or worse? He didn’t want to find that out and quickly prepared himself for work.
He took a quick shower trying his best to pretend that this wasn’t his enemy’s body he was washing and then brushed his hair, which definitely could use some brushing because jeez, did Akutagawa not take care of himself to that extent?
He checked his phone again hoping for Akitayawa to have responded to his message but he unsurprisingly didn't. He just hoped that he didn’t injure his body… or worse.
He stepped out of the bathroom and walked to the exit door of the apartment, he put his shoes on and walked out. Calling a taxi to bring him to the p.m buildings.
He stepped out of the car and paid the driver, he just hoped Akutagawa wouldn’t be too angry about him using his money he’d have to pay him back later.
He was walking towards the building when someone took him by surprise and pulled him into a near alleyway. He tried to call his ability to no avail before realizing who exactly pulled him there.
An expression of anger that he was used to seeing on Akutagawa’s face was plastered on his, he saw himself, or at least his body staring at him before yelling.
"What the hell did you do to me?"
